Did you ever realise that this kind of divisive talk is exactly what Russia wants? Is this the next thing big thing people will fall for? East vs West in the EU??? Just keep dialogue, talk and promote and protect democracy. There's no need to patronise as in "we need to take care of them". Good politics is boring, lacks strong words and leads to the best policy.
Just look at Russia. Strong words, but weak outcomes. That's why I love the EU countries that support Ukraine without being loudmouth about it, but just because it's logical and it has to be done to protect democracy.

Koreans themselves, and I, who leaves this comment, am one of them, do not often realise it, but the partnership with Poland would be one of the remaining great chances for the country not only to boost its economy but also to develop any sort of idea for its grand strategy. Koreans today, just as a Korean expert on international relations screamed in a conference at the CSIS, are "just power-mongering people" without any idea of what's going on. Some arrogant Koreans who are addicted to Germanphilia or Russophilia (sadly, it includes some of my closest friends) tend to neglect Poland's struggle to develop a grand strategy for their country, but it is the very thing Seoul should learn from Warsaw.

In order to destroy the destabilizing US factor, Europe must become a sovereign force, and without Russia's technology, army, resources and population it's impossible, Russia will always deviate from Europe's interests and act in its own interests to fix it, Russia must become a member of the EU and NATO, and the US role in NATO should be deliberately reduced. Russia didn't dismantle your empire, didn't genocide you many times over.

For us, it's been sadly ingrained into our DNA, even more so than resentment for Germany (which quit imperialism and militaristic expansion decades ago).
But even without that, Poland had long periods of peace and even cooperation with Germans at some points in time. Never with Russia, since the beginning of their existence we are enemies. And they didn't, can't change.

Poland could destabilise Belarus but not enough to succeed with a coup d'état on Lukashenko - he's too dug in, has got a body of loyal troops, has now got Nukes positioned directly in Belarus and Russian help would most likely crush all rebellions. This has happened in the past and it did show that his government is desperate to keep their claws on power. Also another issue is that, once the Ukraine war is over, the Russians would have an experienced army under their control - say what you will but since they fought for probably months on the frontlines or trenches they know how everything works. This is to say that Russia would probably launch an Ukrainian-like invasion into Belarus to change government or annex.

Here in Poland there is an ongoing debate about the cost of doing all of this. Here is my take.
Between 1990 and 2021, we increased the country's GDP from $1,731 to $18,000. Almost a 10-fold increase. It only took 30 years - barely one generation of peace and self-determination for the nation. Unfortunately, it won't work when we are a Russian colony from which the oligarchs will drain every penny. It's not the fact that I will have to deny myself a new smartphone that worries me, it's whether my children will not be serf peasants in the Second Soviet Union.
Prosperity and money really like stability and security. And foreign investors like it when their investments are defended by a 300,000-strong army armed with the latest equipment. Samsung will not build a semiconductor factory if there is a high risk that this factory will turn to ashes from Mordor's artillery. Or it will be expropriated by Prigozhin like mines in Africa. If the plan with the Koreans succeeds, we could become an important arms producer. Which may prompt our allies to react more strongly in wartime. It's good to have some practical arguments in addition to the moral ones like "they threaten the supply of your army". The US would throw itself into the fire for Taiwan because of their dominance in semiconductors.
We are talking about increasing military spending from 3 to 4-5% of GDP. I treat this as an investment.

I hope this trend of cooperation deepens and spreads because we Americans don't actually want to fight alone should the worst happen. Why do you think Germans refused to impose harsh sanctions, they send only 5k helmets while imposing red lines for any heavy equipment, blocked military aid, told Ukrainian delegation that there is no point in helping them and were waiting idle for several months while Putin rolled into Ukraine and demanded withdrawal of Nato out from every country between Germany and Russia? The same reason Nord stream avoided any country in between these two players, the same reason dozen of German wealthy buinsessman and politicians were in many seats high in Russian resource industry and vice versa. The same reason Poland after 2008 visit in invaded Georgia, opposing this slowly approaching threat loudly was ridiciuled for years, meanwhile both Russian and German msm, envouiremental activists and politicians were attacking such investments like LNG gas terminals, eu friendy pipeline with the nords and many, many more, remember msm crusade about xenophobic, russophobic, racist, facist Poland thrown without any thought for years? Don't be naive, Germans changed their policy towards Ukraine once they realized they became the fifth column, and went with the flow to avoid total political suicide and finger pointing that was going on for months.
All that becouse Putin misscalculated both Ukrainian strenght and influence that many countries accumulated and actively used to force western partners to act.

It has become clear that Eastern Europe has to create a block within EU (or why not separate), with US, UK and South Korea as strategic partners. Not only we will secure the region for the decades to come, but also this is what will drive economic growth - the highest in the EU and one of the highest in the Western world in general. The future looks promising! We have to take it one step at a time. Next step? Help Ukraine get a decisive victory over Russia and effectively demilitarize that secular regime of destruction.

It is a natural basic process of free economies. This is how the world works. Being nostalgic for "the good old times" helps no one. Taking action and making thoughtful plans does.

The ironic thing about this statement is that Poland is actually deepening its alliance with the US, binding itself to America for decades to come with these new purchases and maintenance deals, and by cutting deals with what is basically an American protectorate (South Korea), and allowing an entire American command to be stationed in their nation. They are becoming stronger by growing closer to America.
The 2nd cold war is based further east this time, and the western Europeans (excluding the UK) seem less willing and less important in the new struggle. Nations like Japan and Korea hold the eastern front against China, just as Poland and Ukraine hold the west against the Neosoviets. That is where America will focus it's attention (and money) as time goes on.
All that being said, even Americans are glad when European countries decrease their reliance on the US military umbrella, most anti European sentiment in the US comes from the perception that the Europeans either can't or won't protect themselves, so military buildup in friendly nations is usually very well received here.

Poland knows it's geography and history. Just 25 years after communism and Poland is approaching German levels of wealth and productivity sans real democracy.
Poland could easily turn Baltics, Ukraine and much of Eastern Europe into a sphere of influence with Germany and France as an opposing axis after the Russian threat goes quiet. US cannot afford to manage both Europe & Asia. Political and historical realities make any sort of EU/NAFTA union, unfortunately, impossible. UK can't even be wedged in even with Canada present. This means Poland and France will be responsible for maintaining the continent with UK managing balance of power as has been its historical role.
A strong Europe outside As American order will be a menace instead of significant help in Asia. Only UK can be relied on
