- A short film was made about my #Buhurt team in Norwich - Knights Tower - to give you all a glimpse into this incredible sport.
Buhurt is a modern-day full contact combat sport which involves fighters using blunt steel weapons and armour characteristic of medieval times.

I love watching Buhurt, but medieval combat in the late 14th to late 15th century would probably be a lot different. There are no long swords in Buhurt, nor are there any pole axes that match historical pole axes. And no rondel daggers. Since they would result in death. The was a lot more stabbing. In Buhurt there is a lot of blunt force attacks. Half-swording and dagger work in your face, armpits, and groin, not so up. I would be curious to hear who Buhurt practitioners train and if they use Fiore or Talhoffer's methods in weapon handling?
There are longswords and polearms?? But yes, it's not really going to be like historical combat except *maybe* some tournaments I guess.
The sport is geared to recreate tournaments of the medieval era in a sport form . NOT actual medieval battle on battlefields. 😊
Pretty much everything said in OC was wrong or inapplicable.
theres all weapons, just rules on on what you can and cannot do with them. Melees and duels with different categories.
Buhurt in tournaments was a thing in late medieval era with no thrusts and other similar rules to today. Harness fencing is the proper martial arts duelling side of things and Buhurt is a combat sport. For Buhurt I train with Le Jeu de la Hache and Meyer poleaxe & halberd

Am I the only one who thinks, that using a church as practice space for what is essentially combat sports, is very ironic?

Not really, helmets are incredibly thick, hardened steel with multiple layers of concussion foam padding.
