    Was anyone else shocked to hear how "Khutoryansky" is actually pronounced? (0:19)

    • @arnavtete7793
      @arnavtete7793 Před 2 lety +3

      Well russian language don't have \h\ sound (like h in horse) Rather it has a /x/ (kh sound like "ch" in loch) and x is pronounced rather subtly

    • @Yashodhan1917
      @Yashodhan1917 Před 2 lety +2

      Хуторяннски I think, not sure. But X in Cyrillic sounds like a khh/ha sound. It comes straight from the throat. The woman just used 'ha'.

    • @user-jq1dz2zv1h
      @user-jq1dz2zv1h Před 2 lety +5

      Just paste "Хуторянский" in the Google translater with Russian language chosen and sound it. That's how it must be pronounced. I don't know, but for me, "kh" is not similar to russian "х". And his name in russian sounds like " Evgeniy" (Евгений) or less officially "Genya" (Женя) instead of "Eugene" (but Eugene I guess is just convenient interpretation of this name for english language)

    • @MrChipMC
      @MrChipMC Před 2 lety

      It is more likely Ukrainian name, not russian

    • @user-jq1dz2zv1h
      @user-jq1dz2zv1h Před 2 lety +3

      @@MrChipMC Why do you think so? If you said about the word "Хуторянский", then it is not just the name, it is the last name and it is possible that this is really not Russian last name, but it is similar at least and I think it is quite possible met a man with this last name there. But if you said about the word " Евгений", so, this name is popular in Russian, for example my uncle has this name, but it is also possible that this name originated in Ukraine.
