@@Sternendiener in fact, EVERY major metal band after 1971 said out loud "DEEP PURPLE ARE MY GODS" (not Zep or Sabbath), from Iron Maiden to MOtorhead to Metallica to Van halen to KISS to Judas Priest to ALL THE REST. Most of the instrumental portion of Space Truckin' is a continuum of material from earlier compositions "Mandrake Root" (Shades of Deep Purple) and "Fools" (Fireball).
While Wakeman and Emerson are grabbing up all the latest and greatest synth technology, Lord's just like, "Nah, I'll just run my Hammond through a Marshall stack and crank up the distortion."
At 9:30 Lord quotes the theme from G.Holst's Jupiter from the "Planets" orchestral suite (1911). I mean, ONE of the many great things about Purple is that in their 40+ years of activity they journeyed into more musical styles, genres, feels, whatever you wanna call it, than all the rest of the rock bands put together!!

It's cool at the end how the whole sloppy mess of a jam just seems to hang on Glover's bass string for a couple of seconds before crashing thunderously to the ground. It's a musical orgasm; the audience's reaction confirms it.
Give me finicky analog technology ran by true craftsmen over 'push the button' puppets anyday. The musicians, the techs, they had to use their intuition and be creative. Everything is readymade these days and it sucks off a donkey.
Real music, played on real instruments, by actual people, who actually knew how to play those things. No sampling. Brilliant improvisation and riffing off each other. Today's " artists"? With a few exceptions not so much. If at all.
Most of the instrumental portion of Space Truckin' is a continuum of material from earlier compositions "Mandrake Root" (Shades of Deep Purple) and "Fools" (Fireball).
generally I prefer Studio versions of songs by the 5 main British Super Groups but this live version of Space truckin' is fantastic and highlights Ritchie Blackmore's incredible guitar playing, John Lord's classical inspired Organ work and Ian Gillan belting out the lyrics not to mention Ian Paice on the drums.
Glover is underrated. When he left /got fired and was replaced by that coked up cock head i completely lost interest . Hughes and Coverdale destroyed DP.
I always wondered why many people fancy Jon Bonham that much, I never did - great drummer but no more than that - like Ginger said he could not swing one note, to me Paice always was the real deal!
@@j.osborne4914 I was citing Ginger Baker who is mor of a jazz drummer, I guess he knows what swing feel is. Bonhamer was to me was more of a heavy butcher drummer, never as agile or fast as Paice or Palmer. I prefer them any time over Bonham, who was the best drummer for Zep, who never managed to have a live album who stands a chance against Made in Japan or the other great live albums, they just could not do it. too much posing was going on. But Zep is a damm good band and I listen to them with much delight, But live....they are not on par with the best of the best.
@@gillan5 Hey yeah swing can refer to any feel that isnt straight. Thought of as the feel having a swing. Bohnam for me is really about the way he played his drum beats He used a lot of swing in his beats where he didnt play a straight feel. Made in Japan is an amazing live album. My neighbour lent me a copy on vinyl when I was about 17 and it blew my mind haha. I forgot about it for 20 years until a few years ago when it popped up in my feed and I listened again. It blew my mind. This album captures a band full of monsters in their prime and its beautiful.
@@j.osborne4914 Yes, fair enough-nice reply- so: anyway, to be curious, on which particular track do you think Bonham had a swing feel like Paice in Lazy?
After all these years and listening for over a 1000 times I still can't suppress a smile at 15:55 when the Japanese audience thinks the song's over. At 16:02 it continous and ends again at 19:04 with no applause ;-). Then at 19:13 they applause again realising the song's over.
Oh my and wow. That drumming is so incredible and amazing. And this is all improvised and real time. Real instruments. Real musicians. No sampling. No tape machines. Real skill and talent. How did they do it? More to the point: why can't the current crew do anything even close in skill? Never mind talent?
even MOST LIVE ALBUMS by your fave bands were touched up (re-recorded parts to fix mistakes, or they fake the applause)... so DP is even better than you think they are!
Ian Gillan, all'apice delle facoltà vocali. Semplicemente perfetti!
The sounds Blackmore cranks out of his axe at the start of his solo at 12:00 are eerie and amazing at the same time. I'm pretty sure the rest of it was a finger up to a certain J Page, saying "I can create that sound WITHOUT a bow :-P " Edit: I suspect EVH got his idea for Cathedral from Blackmore.
Paice’s drumming is phenomenal on this track…..

Give me finicky analog technology ran by true craftsmen over 'push the button' puppets anyday. The musicians, the techs, they had to use their intuition and be creative. Everything is readymade these days and it sucks off a donkey.
Ian Paice on the drums ! Alright !
The intensity in this..... !!
Slams! It’s like a rock symphony; masterpiece
The best rock album never ever recorded !!!
19:15 - that burst of applause at the end of the song - priceless.
Real music, played on real instruments, by actual people, who actually knew how to play those things. No sampling. Brilliant improvisation and riffing off each other. Today's " artists"? With a few exceptions not so much. If at all.
I always loved live albums more than studio versions , and this deep purple made in Japan was one of my favorites💖
Best live recorded drum sound ever. And all done with Shure 57's even on that beast of a 26 kick drum.
I've been playing bass for 55 year's..I still love playing purple!!!
Paice and Glover, the finest rhythm section of any rock band ever.
Chris Skinner And yet the more I listen to Deep Purple, the more I listen to Roger Glover.
Glover is underrated. When he left /got fired and was replaced by that coked up cock head i completely lost interest . Hughes and Coverdale destroyed DP.
It's good to have extended versions when playing live
I always wondered why many people fancy Jon Bonham that much, I never did - great drummer but no more than that - like Ginger said he could not swing one note, to me Paice always was the real deal!
When I run into Deep Purple fans, I feel like I’m meeting people who…well…they just get it.
Bonham swung every note man. He deserves his place. But Paice was a beast of this album. They are both legends.
A beautiful combination of analog electric warm and fuzzy!
Jeremy Isao Speier - Artist Leslie speaker.
QUE ÁLBUM POR DIOOOOS!!!
05:11 GENTLEMEN!! START...YOUR ENGINES!!!
Ian Gillan, all'apice delle facoltà vocali. Semplicemente perfetti!
The sounds Blackmore cranks out of his axe at the start of his solo at 12:00 are eerie and amazing at the same time. I'm pretty sure the rest of it was a finger up to a certain J Page, saying "I can create that sound WITHOUT a bow :-P "
Edit: I suspect EVH got his idea for Cathedral from Blackmore.
Good on u think he could of done what ever he wanted back then
You really need a Stratocaster to do it properly. Violining the volume knob
Fantástic !!!
This is #1, Then Made in Europe, and then Live at the Olympia from 96. 3 essential live Rock recordings.
I’ll check out the Olympia recording. Thanks.
@@martienvanderhof6696 More than welcome. Total abandon from 1999 is another good live recording from Austrailia.
Lord killing the B-3
Classic rock perfection !!! Deep Purple Rules !!! Turn it up !!!
The best version of this song!
2024 lets go. Space Truckin Evetyday...❤❤❤
Each member of DP is at the height of their powers here. But Paice is total kick ass.
Space travel they were brilliant true rock band
The very best version of Space trucking is this,Enjoy!... Ian Pace is Balls to the wall!
Gooooood GOD!
Grandi deep purple grande album 💎👑✌✌✌✌✌✌✌✌✌🥰🥰🥰😻😻
(and after this song I discovered thrash metal.... then.... it went all south of heaven from there....)
I have this album. Grande stuff!
