    Usually Estonians do not stare at random strangers.. but.. on the other, me personally, like to look at people who look awesome or different or extraordinary. Be it haircut, length, tattoo, muscle, beauty. Just something interesting to look.

  • @MyStripes
    @MyStripes Před 5 lety +8

    About staring. I do think that mostly Estonians do not stare, they do really just get very lost in their thoughts and might not even realize that they are actually looking at someone. Definitely do not take it personally or in any negative way cos 99% of the time it is not about you or anything negative. But also sometimes we might look too long at someone who looks different to us - dark skin or different eye shape. We basically have no mixtures in different races or nationalities in Estonia (like usa, uk or sweden have for example) so it just sticks out and is out of the ordinary to the eye. (If you would see a purple crow then you would also stare coz it is something u havent use to see. but it doesnt mean its bad, its really cool and interesting :D ) And I think we try reeallly hard not to stare anyone and to not offend someone. I think with that we might be one of the politest nationalities :D We worry alot about not being offencive to anyone. And we expect the same behaviour towards us. Be polite, respectful and don't stand too close (we need our personal space, literally). :D

    There are (mostly) two main reasons people stare at strangers:
    1) The stranger looks nothing like them (most likely);
    2) The stranger reminds them of someone (less likely yet still possible).
    And both use cases are universally true anywhere on this planet.

    One small lifehack for finding places to eat is to check "food delivery" services...all bigger places have joined some kind of delivery service. You usually can choose by price and see how far those are. In Estonia for example: Tellitoit or Wolt

    Coffee is life, mate! There aren't many decent coffee places in Tallinn I'm afraid. Certainly not the chains like Caffeine or Reval, although both are far better than Starbucks. Gourmet used to be good, but these day they are more focused on volume than quality. The easiest way to test a place for its "decency" is to ask for a "flat white" (or a "cortado", which is arguably the same thing depending on where you are from in the World) or a ristretto and look at the barista's reaction.

    Estonians look at other people if they feel alike, not only on people who stand out, but it can be simply another usual Estonian they look at. It is not meant to make you feel uncomfortable, it is just OK to look at other people. And also, You might be an interesting person to them. You shouldnt worry, just look back if you want and maybe say Hi 😂.
