I agree Derek. Belle was so small and Maverick was just a little golden haired angel! I love watching them! Doug is an undercover perfectionist! His work is exemplary! Whatever he and Ashley touches is going to come out beautifully!💕
That thing Doug said about patience is interesting because I've noticed how people who are aware of how impatient they are appear to be the most long-suffering and even-tempered people I've known.
Either way, it's all working out and I'm proud of you all and what you've done.
Having to pause for the budget is not a bad thing. It's an opportunity to take care of all those little things. The trim in the bathroom looks amazing! Such a small thing that makes such a huge difference!

Belle is going to love her room! You haven't reared your children to expect instant gratification and they aren't materialistic, that is monumental today. Congratulations! Belle and Maverick will be well equipped to live in this world but they will always be different (in a good way) because they have not been taught acquisition.

Great progress on Belle's bedroom. Her love of nature is so refreshing. As you mentioned putting a terrarium in her bedroom, I wondered how many teenage girls would want to decorate their room with insects. That is not a put-down by any means; I think it makes hers unique and I admire her. I love the way you did the trim in the master bathroom. It looks so nice.

All the little things finish a room. And sometimes they never seem to get done. I'm glad you are taking this "no buy" time to get these finishing touches done. And I'm sure crossing them off your to- do list is pleasing for Ashley & yourself.

What a nice surprise to have a video from you . Bell’s room is really coming along ,and looks to be quite a nice size . With fresh paint I’m sure it will be a lot lighter .With Bell’s artistic expertise there is no doubt her choices will be aesthetically sound . The bathroom floor looks fabulous . Seeing it in closeup allowed us to see how special it is .

Y’all have some beautiful woodwork in that house and I LOVE your choices in the master bath.
Don’t forget to check out furniture, etc for your daughters room. Second hand. We have found so many NICE real wood pieces that way that we could’ve never afforded, or willing to spend otherwise. Most of the time even cheaper than your cheapest NEW, composite material.

Hi Doug and Ashley! Nice job on the bedroom walls! I'm excited to see the color Bella picked out for her bedroom! I'm really excited for her new terrarium, since it's something she enjoys plus her art work! You guys are awesome parents, becuz you care so much about their interests!
My current project had me insulate an exterior wall. After inspiration from your videos, I used the mineral wool.
Something I noticed immediately is the sound deadening. In this video, it comes through night and day - the clip of you talking before insulation and after! There is NO echo! Such a great choice in materials!
So nice to see Belle working with you. Enjoyed your talk about prepping the boards being a boring job but boring jobs provide some "rest time" for the brain. I used to use my time on the riding mower/tractor as my "God discussion time". No one else talking or interrupting me. Your family is doing a great job and now Maverick can help too. ☺😊

your real help in the patience department is Ashley. I always thought her to be a calm personality. You compliment each other well. And your both a plus in your ideas and actions. Not to mention your work ethnics .
The slow down is a good idea. Not just for financial reasons but life is short. You and the family should be enjoying the process. Bell is growing into a beautiful young lady and Maverick is getting a lot taller. You and Ashley look a lot more relaxed since you moved here. As always, good job kiddos!

I love that you are "slowing down" and not just throwing money at materials, but using what you altrady have. I started watching you because you are frugal, efficient and do great work without waisting materials. it is a lot more work to reuse old materials, but the finished produvt is a lot better quality when you do it right, and you do.
I really like the wall the way it is now. I think it matches the other walls in the room. Whatever you do it will look great. I’m so jealous of your floor moulding angle cuts! It would have taken me days to figure it out. Not to mention all of the wasted wood I would have cut wrong. 🤦♀️😂
My Dad could cut angles real good. He taught his son-in-laws as we were building our homes. To me, it looks like a kaleidoscope and I can't make heads or tails of it. It looks so easy until I look at it and it just doesn't fall into place, LOL! Higher math and science, playing a musical instrument, dancing, art are like that for me. It's just a jumble in my mind and doesn't fit together. OTOH, I'm very good with organizing and bookkeeping and other things. My husband, the engineer, can't make heads or tails out of simple accounting which makes perfect sense to me. It's so funny how different our minds can be. It takes us all!
In my opinion, you have plenty of patience! Taking care of so many aspects with so many skills requires concentration, long term planning and diligence! You should be proud of your work and your family!

When I would refinish furniture, I would get excited to see how it would be transformed into something so different just using painting or stripping.nobs, wallpaper. I guess it's the re-creating of old into New...what your doing is therapeutic 👍
Looking at old videos WOW what a transformation.. you've almost rebuilt that house from ground up..from dark & gloomy to light bright airy.
Once you start painting it will change the whole look 💞

I love how you did the trim in the bath room 🛁. I loved the wall in Belle's bedroom and I know she doesn't want the farmhouse look. She loves her bright color's like you see in her art. She has a beautiful imagination so she not going to settle for blah. I think it's great that you and Ashley encourage her to go with what she loves. If my memory serves me I'm thinking she picked her a color of a door nob when you and Ashley got yours. I just can't remember what the color of it was. If I had time I'd go back to look for it. I really like the horizontal look of the boards as opposed to vertically installing them. Gives it the rustic farmhouse feel

I've been watching you guys for a long time. I love your videos! Sometimes, I think that your work is sped up or condensed because you think we will get bored. A lot of people watch because it's satisfying watching the progression. Also, we will watch the little things, too. We all want to support you. If making more videos will get you more revenue, please try. I never find it boring and sometimes wish for longer videos. You don't have to show huge changes for us to tune in. Also, you can find all natural citrus strippers for painted items that work. I think because Bell's room is a little on the smaller side with only one window that painting it is an excellent idea. It'll make it seem so much bigger and brighter. I'm so excited to see her room painted!!! It's so satisfying to watch the transformation a little paint can make. Take your time with it. Enjoy the process and don't stress about the viewers. I respect you all! 💞
Love how the walls turned out! And I love the idea of no spend for a couple months. Keep an eye on Craigslist for free furniture. You might find the rest of Belle's furniture for $0! That would be amazing 👏

Doug - your comments on “the zone” - I work on old equipment/cars/tractors - and “the zone” is a great way to relieve stress, think and get some work done. Pretty cool when you realize it.

When you replace Bellas window make it bigger if possible, for all her interests that little window does not provide enough light. I might even give her a bay window for her insects and art projects. I'm just saying.

I fully believe bathroom walls, walls between bedrooms, and any wall with plumbing should be insulated due to sound barriers. You can much more at ease use a bathroom where you are not heard on the other side of the wall. Plus, when you are still asleep while the other person is awake and getting ready for the day, having insulation in the bathroom walls means people outside of the bathroom are not disturbed by the noise. Which is why I also like insulating common walls at the kitchen.

I had to repaint a light blue room where they had painted the ceiling light blue too. I kept the wall color almost the same, but when I painted the ceiling white, it made the room feel so much brighter. And that wasn't even a dark color. I can imagine what a difference a light color will be in that room.
