  • On the eve of Husbandburger's birthday last week, we embarked upon our longest and most challenging hike yet. We hiked the Rubicon Trail in South Lake Tahoe; starting at Emerald Bay (via the Vikingsholm Trail) and ending at D.L. Bliss State Park. Over 50,000 steps, 7.5 hours, 12.2 miles, four sore feet, and one sunburn later, we made it back to our car just in time for red Gatorade and a BBQ dinner. The views were awe inspiring and breathtaking. The hike was challenging and intense. There were tons of interesting features to this hike and overall we had a great time. We'd definitely recommend giving this hike a try at least once. D.L. Bliss Park was closed when we hiked, if the park is open, you can park a car at both ends and hike just one way, instead of out and back. This option would make this hike much more approachable and manageable (and repeatable) for more people. If you choose to do your own hike on the Rubicon Trail, be sure to go prepared. Bring plenty of water (we barely had enough), wear sunscreen and protective clothing (Wifeburger's sunburn still hurts!), make sure your shoes are supportive and comfortable, pace yourself, and be sure to have plenty of fun! Let our experience show you how to or how not to hike the Rubicon Trail. Share your thoughts on the journey with us in the comments or on Instagram. My wife and I just completed this trail, and we applaud you showing the desolate part of the journey. It was difficult coming back and even harder going the mile back up to the parking area. Thanks for taking the time, and I hope that BBQ was worth every bite! Cheers!

Thanks for watching! We definitely wanted to share an honest experience of it for anyone watching. We did end up having a good time and we’re glad we did this trail even though we found it challenging. Glad to know we’re not alone! 🤗 Happy hiking!

Epic scenery! But seriously... did you both do this hike in SANDALS!?!? I have blisters on my toes from watching, but I'm feeling inspired to do a long hike now.

We both had a couple of shoe options with us and ultimately Husbandburger went went socks and Chacos...sockos and Chacos ended up being the perfect combo for the long hike. Wifeburger went with hiking shoes with a late-trail switch to Chacos. If you haven't given Chacos a try, check them out. It was surprising to both of us how friendly they were on our feet during this long hike. I'm glad our video inspired you! Adventure awaits!
