  • I’ll review 3 ways to heat your camper bed. I picked the one I felt was best to provide thermostat controlled 12v heat for your car or van camper. I install the Electrowarmth T36 12V heater, go over power usage and give it an overnight test run.

    Used this in the sleeper of my truck for years. Worked fantastic and I never had any problems with battery draw down even in Canada! Usually ran it in the 1/2 to 1 range during the winter regardless of where I was at.
    I'm a cranky old fart now with lots of aches and pains. Nothing feels better to lay on this and let the heat soak out the misery. Now if I could only find as easy a cure for my crankiness!

    I biught this same heating pad for our Australian Desert trip.
    It was so cosy!.
    We ran it each night from 8pm to 8am! Solar mostly. Plugged it to a usb connected to a cigarette fitting then the blanket.
    The bugga was the USB fitting was on my husbands side so the cigarette fitting needed a long cord to reach my side.
    It was bought in Australia and was similar to your prices.
    Followed all safety instructions and high for getting in then on level 3 all night.
    I had one night without sufficient solar power so I froze with wool socks wool jumper, two dogs and finally slept with wool gloves and a hat!
    A blessing as at 65years two knee replacements and other arthriis areas, I ache and I don't sleep!
    Came home, hung it by the pins on some nails on nthe back of the wardrobe wall.
    This is amazing and paid for itself on the four week trip. Thanks for showing us and everyone. Hugs WAH. Vic Aust.

    These work great. I will share my experience. Don't ever put your knees on these to crawl across. Resist the urge, find another way to get to the other side. Heavy pressure in one area will ruin these. I know, I ruined two of them before I figured it out. Treat them nice and you will be very happy with this warmer.

    I camp out of my Jeep Grand Cherokee and three things I've done have been a game changer. 1. Get a Iceco 12v fridge 2. Install a shore power outlet to your car. 3. Get 1....preferably 2 Bluetti AC50S. (2 is awesome as 1 is dedicated to the fridge and the other is for creature comforts. Heat, light, charging stuff) This way you can run on and off the grid. I have 3 power options, run the AC50S as is, run / charge with solar or run shoreline to them. This way, no concerns about my car battery at all. Oh yeah...why Bluetti....because I have Jackery and Bluetti devices....Bluetti is the best. Those pushing Jackery are paid and sponsored opinions.

    Fantastic! I have an older 12 volt heating/vibrating pad for the driver seat which works great, but it's dangerous too. It only has high/low/on/off switch. What makes it dangerous; On a long drive the heat/vibration stimulation can get so relaxing, you almost consider dozing off while driving. Once I experienced that I only use it intermittently when I first get in the car on a cold morning. I was thinking about putting it under my body on the sleeping platform but I know it would kill the starting battery quick if I fell asleep. Great video and well explained. Every other video about Prius just talks about sleeping with the climate control function.

    Great research! Here's another left field idea: how's the Prius when parked in the sun on a winter day? Most cars heat to about 20 degrees above ambient. If you had some thermal mass (tiles, bricks, etc) they might retain heat well into the evening.

      @timdillen  Před 6 lety +5

      One of the great things about the Pruis is that it will monitor the 12v starting battery if the car is left in the ON position. When I draw too much power off the 12v battery, the car will automatically start and charge both the drive battery and 12v battery. If you leave the car in the OFF position and draw the 12v battery too far down then then car will not start and you will need to get a jump from another car. Thanks for you question and for watching!

    Just curious. What do you guys think of the Goal Zero Yeti Lithium 400? I'm thinking this might be the way to go with a prius. It's just 15 lbs and so you could recharge at the gym or the Starbucks. Go back to the car and take out the folding solar panel and put that on the roof for awhile and finish it with a charge off the Prius battery. Should we trust Lithium these days .... it is the future.

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 6 lety +2

      From what I gather from the instructions, they don't want the heated pad to wrap under the mattress - possibly makes it overheat but not sure. Mine kinda droops over the side a bit in places but does not run under. I does say not to let it fold over itself either. This cover may not be a good option for 26 inches wide. Hope that helps.

I have done thorough testing of them all in the back of my Tacoma and I can say the electrowarmth pad is so legit. I like to put it on its very lowest setting ( like less than 1 on the dial ). I can only attest to its use with my bluetti ac50s, but with that power station it works well. It doesn’t kick on the fans but it does use nearly the entire battery to power it overnight. So my guess is a jackery 160 or 240 might not be enough.
