Such a simple and smart way to shorten a sweater. Well done!
Glad you like it!
Thank you so much for this awesome video! I just used your method, used a walking foot and I got perfect results. No waviness at all. Another five sweaters to go!
You're welcome! That is awesome!
Thanks, Heather! Love this video! My DD asked me to alter a sweater for her, and I had never altered a sweater. 😊😊
awesome!
What an awesome video, thank you so much! My sweater has been lying there for 6 months, waiting for me to pluck up the courage. I had previously done it and everything went wrong. You even addressed the waviness at the end! You gave attention to everything that could go wrong and I now have the courage to tackle the sweater
yay! you can do it!
Thank you so much for this video. I hope I'm as successful as you were!
Glad I found your channel. This is exactly what I needed for the sweater I'm doing that has a band. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Great tutorial! A walking foot will also reduce stretch by feeding both top and bottom fabric through the needle at the same time.
That's a great idea!
OMG Just what I was looking for. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Thank you . Its exactly what I was looking for. Greetings from the beautiful island of Mauritius.
Glad it was helpful!
Great job! I definitely have to try this!
Please do!
Wow how very cool is that? thanks
Beautifully done. Good video. Thanks!
Thank you very much!
This is lowkey an underrated video. Very helpful!
Glad you think so!
Great video, thanks!
You're welcome!
Thank you. I'm off to shorten my sweater. I'm surprised you didn't mention using the differential feed on your machine to reduce the waviness. All good though.
I don't think my machine has the differential feed! Only some sewing machines have that.
@@HeatherHandmade That makes sense. I think mine has the ability to alter the feed dogs so that it works like differential feed. I must investigate that more. That means your changes are even more impressive. Well done and I do plan to alter some knee length 1980 woollen jumpers that I've been waiting to come back into fashion. They are too beautiful to throw away.
I hope it works out for you!
New subscriber here. I don't have a serger. So I'm hoping that a tight zigzag finish to a cut-off portion of the folded up portion of the sweater's band will work as well as a serger.
Yes it should work with a zigzag!
Wow! You're good.
Thanks! 😃
Thanks so much
You're welcome!
This is a wonderful tutorial! Just shortened my cardigan and it looks almost perfect! Thank you so much!
Wonderful! Thats awesome!
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
Hi Heather! Thanks for this video! Can you make one about how to remove the ribbed hem of a sweater completely?

Great video! I need to shorten a sweater. I’m curious why it was necessary to use a sewing machine in the first sewing step versus a 4 thread serger?
You can do it with a serger if you are making sure the placement of the seam is in the right place, right at the top of the ribbing.
Curious why a zigzag stitch on the exposed side to hold down the surged edge.
If you do a straight stitch it will pop when the sweater is stretched
Darn, I don’t have a serger. 😕 I just got a mock turtleneck on a deal from Amazon, but it is too long.
you can do everything with a zigzag stitch instead!
I watched this but I've not got a machine🙄😂 good video though👍
Sorry to hear that
What is the zigzag stitch length and width?
I like to use a 2.7 width and a 2 length, but that isn't the stretchiest zigzag. I like it for how I can control my seam allowance, but you can do a wider width to get more stretch if you want!
