One of the few singers that gets straight to my heart every time. He sure is missed. Ray could sing Old McDonald Had a Farm and it would still move me! Thank you, Ray, for everything you gave us.
This southern California White Boy was always Ray's biggest fan. From 10 years old and listening to the Beach Boys at friends homes and the Beatles ... I just couldn't get the feel of that Bubble Gum Rock...I needed SOUL MUSIC!!!....Oh ... "I STILL DO AT 63 years OLD"!!! Thank you Mr. Charles... I love you.
Ray Charles loved country music. He grew up on it and when he was becoming really famous in the R&B scene, in 1961, he decided to record a country album. People were gobsmacked and dubious at his idea, but he wanted to celebrate his roots, the music which had inspired him his whole life. You Don't Know Me was originally written by Eddie Arnold and Cindy Walker and recorded by Eddie Arnold in 1955. It would be seven years before Ray Charles took it to #2 on the charts. His rendition was off his 1962 album "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music" and to this day it is the most well-known version of the song. Contrary to what people around him thought at the time, the album (and the song) was a smash success. The album was one hit after another. Ray Charles knew. The man was an absolute genius and an incredible talent. I listen to him every week, and his voice and music always soothe my soul. What an inspiration.
I'm 22 and never knew this song. I was at a blues bar and they sang this and it was awesome. I asked the band what it was and they gave me a look at how I dont know but they helped me out and once I found it on here, I can't get enough. We don't have people like this anymore. Ray and James Brown my 2 fav's.
dganz1 same here! ray and james brown are two of my favorites. I'm 30 there's not much good modern music imo. I think musical talent hit a high in the 60s and started to fall off in the late 70s lol
One of the big things that got lost, was pure music. Today's performers spend so much time focusing on the visual presentation, they often seem to overlook the song. Same with the audience; everything is all about the video. There have been some songs released, that are almost unlistenable without the video to distract you from the fact that the song is terrible. Britney Spears had a few of those clinkers.
There are some incredible songs from the past that are preserved in the internet, but someone has to point you to it. Look up Etta James, Patsy Cline and more, just check out related videos suggested by the platform. Beautiful music is still out there, now more than ever.
Ray is at his best at blues. His words touches the soul and that is what he was \. We all go through life hoping the someone we love gets to know us, but they never do!
Ray in his prime--a black man in the 70s singing a soul song in a country setting. Who else could or can do that? This song is the best unrequited love song I have ever heard. The music, lyrics and voice blending into the ultimate longing song that appeals to all suffering through that pain.
The one, the only - Ray Charles. What an amazing talent. I'm so grateful we have so much of his talent recorded so we can continue to draw from his raw emotion and God-given gift.
this song reminds me of a girl i met on a train. We were both hours from our destination, it was night time and we couldn't sleep. We talked til the sun came up. Describing our likes or dislikes, arguing our favorite movies and music..Laughing.. Even debating on life and love. She was amazing. When the train arrived at her stop we exited holding hands and shared a kiss... I was weightless. She asked me to stay, to not get back on that train. Ill never forget her
Ray was an American treasure. He made every song his own. I am surely no Ray or Michael,or Willie,or Elvis, but give an old guy a break and watch my version. Love to all Dan Dell
What is it about this song that, even when done not particularly well, still tugs at you with its raw emotion? Beautiful. When this man does it - well we don't stand a chance....
I truly love all of the blind sensations music. I wasn't even born yet. Love ray Charles. He was truely a Genius. I watches these videos over and over again. Love u Ray.
Country Music HOF and Songwriter's HOF Cindy Walker wrote this song, She had a long and wonderful career in the 40's western movies with the famous B&W screen heros..Bing Crosby hired her first to write songs for him in the 40s & she went on to pen for Roy Orbison, Tex Ridder, Eddy Arnold and so many more.. she was a great lady and great friend & so talented.Look at the list of songs she wrote & she had a wide range of artists singing her songs. This was a top 10 for Eddy Arnold, Mexia,Tx gal.
This is one of the most emotional songs ever written, transcended to the extraordinary by the brilliance of Mr Charles. Other versions can never reach the standard set by Ray. They just seem anaemic by comparison.
Read his biography, amazing. Saw his movie "Ray", knew the words to an old Eddy Arnold song. Cindy Walker and Arnold wrote this song. Asked my bishop who writes songs for a living what is the one song he wished he had written....this is it.
When I look back over my life through all the hills bumps and valley that have bought tears laughter joy and broken hearts, it music that has been at the wheel for most of that time. I was lucky to have been given a talent that I openly admit to wasting, for most of the time. But through all that was a burning fire made of some of the most famous people in the game, who just mzde it impossible to ignore what was running through my viens and my mind for all of the time, the Music and the song. looking back, what a gift! it could lift me up, it could quiet my mind and deffinatly open my ears to the sound of others with thevsame gift, mostlybatba much higher level, but none the less on the same subject. People like Ray Charles, Joe cocker, Elton John, Niel Diamond, the Beatles, Eric Clapton, along with a string of female artists in the same field and atnthevsame level as all the others, who could break your soul with a note, and leave you sitting contemplating just what it was you just heard. I often eonder still, if people really know just what it is that just hit them between the eyes, and left a big hole in their amazement at shear talent. I wonder how many people know just what the feeling is to have a few thousand peoplenthey han never even meet before, hanging on every word that came out your mouth, I had this feeling so many times and still do , listening to the effects of a song on my soal. I have as age has flown along at a break neck speed, wondered just how I will feel when these people are no longer there to cature my attention and make me listen with a great intencity at what it is they are saying in song. The thought of life without these people seems more than frightening, because I dont hear anything that comes even a quater ofbthe way to replacing such grest talent, The Biily Joels and Ray charles of this world are not replacable, maybe this is why thevwords they sing tent to stick with me. My wife asks me how can you remember all those words and all those notes along with the very detail of how it all goes together, my answer is that I think it is part and parcel of the gift itself, you feel it in some way more than you remember it, because your heart feels it, the words are part and parcel of that feeling. When the hair on the vack of your neck stands up and the tears fill your eye in a way thatbyou have no control over, you jnow your listening to a gift that was given to some one else, and there are thousands of them, all able to sence the very next note or word before it even comes out. Ray Charles and Joe Cocker are two whos music comebto you like that, they are both blues singers who send out that message of the very next word or note. So if you have that gift be very grateful for what you have and thank God for it, and try not to waste it because there are millions of people who never got it, but still enjoy the sound.
Absolutely agree John. Billy Joel and Ray Charles are not replaceable. Before reading your comment I was thinking “songs like this are so perfect that it would seem as if Charles had lifted his arm high into the skies and robbed it from heaven”. It is perfect. The world without this song would be less. Good comment.
I felt as if I had lost a family member when Ray Charles passed. I grew up listening to him. My parents loved him, so I had listened all my life and enjoyed every song.
You hit it on the head. We all knew he would pass, but when it came there was a big hole in my heart. Thinking of it right now brings tears to my eyes.
I think it was, I remember hearing about it somewhere, that ray transends across all lines, with what I think is some of the best music we will ever get to hear
Absolute proof of just how soulful county music can be. I wish the people making "country" today would school themselves on music like this and Hank Williams.
Pure genius and great song. Always makes me feel like crying. But I'm watching the video this time and wondering how hard it was for that camera man to keep Ray in frame with all that rocking back and forth. LOL
@shimokita2 Hey dude I know how you feel. Me and my dad used to go down the street listening to Ray Charles, the Tempations, Al Green and Earth Wind and Fire. I'm 17 now and that was 5 and a half years ago. He gave me so much and taught me so well I get teared up just thinking about how good of a father he was. This music is just another thing he passed along. Love and miss her. But don't be scared or hold yourself down for the one moment she died. Live for the best moments you had.
When young, sweet-faced Michael Grimm told his story on "America's Got Talent" and opened up his mouth and this song came out; I didn't even have to watch every week. I knew he would win; he did and he should have !!!

One of Ray's very best ballads. He put a lot of soul into his music.
Possibly the best song ever about unrequited love, and half the love songs are built around that theme.
Ray is at his best at blues. His words touches the soul and that is what he was \.
We all go through life hoping the someone we love gets to know us, but they never do!
Oh my gosh! I will never get enough of listing to Ray Charles!! One of the best R&B artist ever!! 💕
The fact that this clip is from Hee Haw is a testament to the broad appeal & true genius of Ray Charles.
I saw Mr. Charles perform in London ~ 1989. It was a thrill and honor. A great American performer. We grew up with his Country album
- go figure.
Goosebumps! LOVE this song.

Ray ill listen to your music till the day I die... Thank you sir RIP
who ever thumbed this down is soulless...
My favorite Ray tune. How can't you like this?

Ray Charles.... topping the charts in R&B, Jazz, Country, Rock and Pop. and I probably missed a genre or 2. i don't think anybody else ever did that.
Ray lived thru hell and beat it he was an awesome artist.
I wonder. Did he ever beat his personal love?
one of the very few artist to successfully rehabilitate from heroin abuse and stay drug free :)
Ray was an American treasure. He made every song his own. I am surely no Ray or Michael,or Willie,or Elvis, but give an old guy a break and watch my version. Love to all Dan Dell
Now and after many years passed, I miss hearing his blues and his honest call for love!
Me too, me too miss this genius

Both Ray Charles and Willie Nelson crossed musical boundaries effortlessly it seems.
Many people worldwide can give this song a million thumbs up!
Please tell me I'm not the only one who rocks side to side just like Ray when I listen to his amazing music? I can never get enough of him.
Ray Robinson hit #2 in Billboard, 9-8-62. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! RIP, Brother Ray!
Only Ray Charles could put that much soul into being friend-zoned.
Wicked...Excellent thank you Mr Charles xxx
