I feel like Eric could give a three hour seminar, simply about why choral music is so rad.
My daughter sang in a choir that performed a few of his pieces when she was in high school. I was hired to film the event and had no idea what to expect. Halfway through one of the pieces, I was shaking in tears trying to hold the camera still the music was so powerful and beautiful. Brilliant Talent and phenomenal contribution to the world of music. We need more people like Eric Whitacre.
I could listen to this guy all day
Me, I'm watching...YES! And even more...but I will wait on all of that...Blessings!
As a fifty plus year singer of barbershop harmony in chorus and quartet, I totally agree with Eric's words.
This is a video I plan to show my school board when they made major cuts in the Music and Arts department, and planning on to write an paper on why Music and Arts are just as important as sports and physical activities like gym....there should be no schools cutting beautiful things like music and arts to kids that love to express with music and painting.
My theatre program has officially became a self funding program which is very difficult to get money to build sets, order or buy costumes, paying orchestras, renting the rights to that musical...while we are trying our hardest the school funds almost 80 thousand dollars to football and gives them new turf every year, new jerseys every year, and equipment every year...it's unfair to the other students that wish to perform on stage then on the field.
All the best to you!
you are absulatelly right.Music is irreplacable part of our lives, very valuable as well as the sports.I think Music and Art departments must be supported everytime because once people are interested in music or art they are far away from negative feelings because they are sensitive ,affectionate and concious.I am the member of a polyphonic choir in Mersin,Turkey which is a very beautiful city of Mediterranean.I feel very happy together with my friends while singing.
My choir team dumb that this is our classes third time watching this for an assignment
My heart is aching as I watch this interview--again--now in this time of COVID. We need choral music more now than ever to show the world how the many become one, and how the harmony in music is a literal illustration of the harmony humanity can, and must, achieve.
But singing together is a super-spreader and I can't think of a more cruel irony than that all these beautiful individual and societal health benefits Eric speaks of have turned such a joyful activity into a deadly endeavor.
I am part of a small community "peace choir" that does not have the resources or the tech savvy necessary to create virtual collaborations, but I will continue to savor recordings and videos (including Eric's "Virtual Choir 6: Sing Gently"--one of the most glorious things I have ever heard) and dream of the time our souls can once again connect in song.
Thank you, Eric Whitacre, for all the beautiful, soul-stirring moments you've given us.
My music teacher taught me about Eric last year and I've been in awe since. My high school requires you to learn about music and I'm glad I did! It makes me a much happier and focused person, and I've connected to so many new people. My choir is going to competition in a few days!
How refreshing to see what this man accomplished instead of all the sickness, and war etc we have faced these last few years. "Fly to Paradise" was one of things that that comforted me after my husband died. Music affects that soul and this song was what I wanted to do "Fly to Paradise". Those lovely singers with their gentle smiles seemed to comfort me as if they understood my pain.
Wonderfully put - thanks to Covid-19 all my choral participation has been on hold for months and looks to go on that way. I sure miss it!
I come back to this video so often. Music has formed such a foundational meaning regarding values in my life. Glad I've sang Eric's music in choirs in high school and onward. A core feeling of interconnectedness and being enough surges though me when I am aware singing with others. It will feel incredible and new every time. I begin every day by singing, even if it begins in the shower.
Thank you!!
So many great reasons to sing and it's FUN! - love the passion Eric
beautiful!
I came to choral singing at around 23.......am now 59........and in HS I was a jock....an athlete......football and baseball.........and in my lack of knowledge then, I did not appreciate the power for good that is choral singing---or the refining influence of choir singing and singing in general brings to the table.......if I could live my life all over again, I never would have played football (due to injuries and the less refining influence that it carries with it).......I would have joined my High School choir and taken professional voice lessons THEN...for I had this latent singing talent hidden away un-discovered.........would have liked to become a soloist or performer........
How true!
I could not agree more and I would add it is cheap therapy.
1:13 baby don’t hurt me
