- In this video, I give some recommendations concerning the proper way to start training a Labrador Retriever. Notice how calm and attentive this eleven week old puppy remains while I film. Too often, novice trainers fail to realize the importance of developing proper work ethic and impulse control during the imprinting stage. I promise that if you will hold your pups to a high standard when they are young, it will make the whole process as easy as buttering bread! Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games czcams.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
Haha why was the boarder collie doin donuts in the background. That was hilarious
🤪🤣🤣
That’s not a border collie
That'd be a Shetland Sheepdog
I love the dog in the background doing a full routine on his own such a smart dog
Going for the gold!
this guy is so good, he's got his dog doing circles in the back without a command lmaoooo @3:58
I was literally LOL at that...dog doing random circles looked so confused!!!
48162342 LOL
Kudos to the dog in the back for staying all the way through😂😂😂
Bahaha the brown boy on the stairs is just hanging out like "oh yes, been there, done that".
you are f*cking great at training dogs.
+sunnyamida You are great at giving internet compliments. Thank you!
2024 this series is awesome honestly
This man is the example of patience, commitment and love I absolutely love this and drunk and got a chocolate lab and learning 😂
What's up with Lassie in the background. Keeps on spinning in circles haha.
+thebluexanadu78 I just started with these videos but I've heard some collie/sheltie/etc breeds have OCD and do things like that? :O
Trademark of neurotic behaviors that develop from over breeding or anxiety. Just like tail chasing/biting to the point of self trauma.
2:41 - happy spins in the background
i can't hear anything but that collie in the background is hilarious.
this is the best channel i have come across for dog training, i am getting a lab in august and have started watching several of his videos! love his personality and stonnie has a good way of teaching people via youtube... does a great job of explaining why he does certain things and what the dog is also thinking
thank you so much for your time spent and willingness to help others - I was nervous about training our lab puppy until I found your videos, it really makes sense - great job
Tried this today Stonnie. It worked like a charm. Hoping it will continue to work on my 11 week old. Much respect from Canada.
you might be the most down to Earth trainer I have found yet! thank you for showing me I have been going at train' my pup, time to start over
The collie is so funny. We are considering getting a lab puppy. Will definitely be showing my partner these videos. That puppy is so lovely and well behaved, you're great at this!
Thank you for sharing your techniques. I stumbled on your videos, have watched quite a few. Really like your down to earth, real life approach without the use of force!
:-) hadn't thought about turning around and giving the dog my back like that--nice! Thanks Stonnie!
you are just amazing. your patience and teaching techniques, just awesome. thank you!!
Stonnie must be loaded now if he was wearing a bitcoin shirt in 2014 lol!
BRO Imagine stonnie rn If he held lol
These videos are very informative! We just got a 12 week old lab who was kept out side and never taught a thing!
I'm about to start training an assistant dog here in Australia and all youd videos will help tremendously. Thank you so much.
this guy is crazy good
Excellent presentations! We just bought a 12 weeks female lab and she has been driving us crazy. Thanks for you great work, I am learning from your tutorials!
I just got a new black lab that is 9 weeks old. These videos have been very helpful!
This guy is the real Dog Whisperer!
Nice training on the sheepdog. Hearding itself.
He is awesome. Just got a 12 week old lab who is now 5 mos. old and everything he
have taught "us" is so helpful. Does anyone know where he is located?
Oh your collie is simply adorable 😍
Stonnie have taught me how to put my black lab in student mode in the first week of training using treats. I’ve seen a big change in my black lab in a week time frame of his video.
Haha the dog in the background spinning also thanks for the tips!
i put a leash on my 2 month red boi for the first time and he acted like he already knew what to do it was amazing labs are the best tho i miss middle of nowhere north carolina where my old ridgeback never knew a leash or fences lol
Great videos we are picking up our puppy Labrador next week , this is going to be so helpful 👍👍
eleven weeks? wow hes a big fella. you make the training look so easy! nice
He's not really all that big. I'm just a very small person, so he looks big in comparison...
You are awesome! I hope I can train my future pup this well
2:40 Sheltie like, "Oh, we doing spins."
I freaking love your training.
Really great teaching..
Thank you so much tony 🔥
Thank you for these videos! Extremely helpful
Great job!

Picking up our lab pup next week. Look forward to using these techniques with him"Charlie"
Id like to ask what food you feed with?
u r a genius mate!!! thanks for that...
lmao at the collie spinning in the back!
love your videos....
Haha, that dog in the background really wanted to get off that table, but he still stayed on it. You can see him thinking 'Shall I get off? Nope I'm told to sit here, maybe I'll get a treat'. (At least that's what it looks like)
Yep u can tell it wants to get off
Really loving these videos. Would these tips be effective for an older lab? Our lab is almost one and knows basic commands and is housetrained but doesn't have the best manners.
I really like what you got going on =)
Best trainer 😭 everyone makes dog training seem so complicated, not with him though.
Very informative, thank you for sharing.
Saurabh Uniyal Thanks for watching!
with pleasure.
lol @ circle dog @ 3:58
Training looks fantastic, looking forward to trying it when we get a dog! Just wish your videos didn't have the audio panned hard-left :)
How many times a day and how long do you train with the dog? Love the videos.
Lol 6 years ago he was say who got Bitcoin 🤦🏾♂️ ur the mannnnn
I was thinking the same thing lol
hey Stonnie, You have opened my eyes tremendously so I appreciate you!! One question, can you provide the kibble you are giving lab pups. Thanks
Thank you for this movies. I always dreamed of having a big dog at home (we had only small or medium sized dogs) but also I would like to have a family soon so... I'm a bit worried about dogs manners around baby. This training will definitely come at hand when we finally decide to take a dog home. The only thing that bothers me is that I'm not sure if dog should come before or after baby....
Hahhahahaah the spinning dog in the back is too funny haha
nice lesson!!! thanks
should i feed my dog before training?
Hi Stonnie. appreciate your handling and treating of dogs! Love your style. What kind of treats are you using? We have new 8 week red lab puppy. Brad
Hey Stonnie, when do you suggest to start this with my Lab. My lab is 8.5 weeks old and I have been starting the base patterns with him you mentioned early on and in the first video.
Thanks!
Video is 8 years old and he has on a got bitcoin shirt, man I hope he got some
Great video, thanks for posting. What's your favorite treat to use for puppies like this? I'm getting a lab in 2 weeks and would like to order some ahead of time. Thanks again!
what do you believe is the right starting age for training a lab puppy?
fireman1795 start from day 1 of you getting him
First enjoy watching your videos and how you train. With this Lab Puppy Series I am assuming it would go for any pup? I am getting a GWP in a month want an awesome family pet that I hunt 2 to 3 times a week for 6 months a year.
Stonnie just found your channel a week ago and been watching you like crazy love all the teachings you have. I am getting a dog for my family next week and my girls and wife have fallen in love with a mix breed lab/pit. So I did some research and both breeds seem good to me I have had both breeds in the past. The big question I have for you is that I am going to try to teach her your system and I want to know what the best one to use would be the Lab one or the Malinois system. I want to put high expectations being that I now have a wife and kids and want to protect them. I know that a Malinois or GSP would be best for a family protection dog. But do to cost i just cant, so is it a realistic expectation for her to be a family protection dog at all.?? thx i advance for your time and answer and I'll keep watching.
Ivan Sotelo Basically, I just use fundamental dog training principles and even though it seems like a "system" it's really just figuring out how to apply the fundamentals to a given situation. Have an open mind, try a bunch of stuff and catalog the results. Keep what works, disregard the rest.
Haha the border collie is a camera lover
Hey Stonnie,
first off great videos, very helpful. I have a question. I have a beautiful 4 month old Chesador lab, she is very smart and doing great just working with her 30 mins a day. my biggest fault I am having is a strong "come" command. she listens in and around the house/property but when I take her to the river or woods she plays this catch me if you can game. can you please give me some tips to strengthen that command.
Thank you
Spinning sheltie in the background at 3:56
Could you please post videos on training older, very rambunctious lab puppies (8 months old)?
Luv this! What kind of treats do you use?
Hi stonnie I was wondering how do you get your pup to have the enthusiasm to run to you when you call them? I have a 3 month old lab and he doesn't listen much when I call him to me he just does what he wants
Its been 5years what happened to your lil dog?
Hey Stonnie,
Ive been tuning into your videos since day 1, learning & applying lessons tips and tactics to train my Cane Corso puppy, who’s currently 13 weeks of age. I have some questions,
• This video is specific to Labrador? Is there a difference in training my cane Corso puppy?
• if there’s a difference how will you go about it?
The dog spinning circles in the back just trying to get her 15 minutes of fame 😂
Such awesome videos!!!! What are you using for treats?
Dear Stonnie, Please answer me, you are a very good dog trainer I see that very well! how do you think I should start introducing my puppy to retrieving and at what age to start? What kind of toy or dummie should I use? one friend suggested a mini water bottle with rocks in it to make it interesting. what kind of leash d you use in this video and where is the best place to get one? I admire how much work you put into hear and hope you please reply!! I need answers soon!
How are you teaching the dog to differentiate between knowing when to stay when you're moving away or when to follow?
Hi great videos.I just got a golden lab, 18 month's. What do you do If the dog is doing something wrong and u want him to stop? Want to do it without shouting, I'm only learning myself aswell
Rough Collie "Mom i am on youtube"
Hi Stonnie, Do you have a video that shows tips on how to keep a black lab puppy from biting so much?
Stonnie "give em a treat" Dennis
Watch the video again, and pay close attention. Which is what you should have done before making a silly comment...
Stonnie Dennis it was funny comment, I actually really enjoyed the videos and plan to use your ration style reward system..don't be so butt hurt
Stonnie Dennis sweet beard🇨🇦
It wasn't that funny, as it has that comment has been made about a thousand times before...everyone thinks they are a comedian...
Stonnie Dennis then get over it😊 you are wound up pretty tight for a Friday, everything ok at home buddy?
that's awesome! just a question are you using the same treat to his daily meals? or it's different? if so what do you recommend for a good treat? thanks a lot!
Great video!! What kind of treats do you use or recommend?
Wondering if you could answer this question my doodle is a year old and very aggressive behavior toward men mostly. How can I handle Thoth?
Hey Stonnie, I have a two year old black lab and at first he was great with staying inside the gate, but now he has gotten into the habit of climbing the fence and getting out. So I've had to keep him on a leash and it breaks my heart. He is now refusing to eat until I take the leash off. What would you recommend to do to train him to stay inside the fence. Also I do walk the dog twice a day for an hour.
What kind of treats are you giving him? What brand? Also I have a one and half year old mutt, is it still possible to teach her how to walk on a leach?
At the beginning you said, "If the dog doesn't run up to you right away, something is wrong"
I just got an 8 week old German Shepherd Mix (we think he's part Lab). He's now 11 weeks old, & seems pretty smart. He knows SIT and DOWN on command.. starting to learn SHAKE.. but getting him to COME can be quite hard, especially if he's lying down at the time. When he does come, he walks over very slowly, and sometimes he seems very stubborn. He is a very lazy dog, and has pretty low energy.. Do you think something is actually wrong?
If not, how do I get him more excited about COMING to us? We play with him, using balls & tug toys.. and we always reward him with treats when he does what we ask. What else should we be doing?
Act excited
What type of food are you giving him
what treats do you use?
He isn’t using treats here, he uses a portion of the dogs usual food for training purposes
Stonnie,
I really like the use of the table for training a puppy so it is at a more workable height, and am considering doing this with a future puppy. Have you ever had problems with the dog continuing to jump on the picnic table as it gets older, say 5 or 6 months old, and becoming a problem? How and when do you teach the pup to not instinctively go on the table?
I would just thinking about the same thing! Will the puppy continue to jump on there?
Just put the behavior on cue.
What a guy!! Wearing a Bitcoin shirt in 2015 👍💰
Stonnie I can't seem to get my 10w lab to come to me unless I have something theyre interested in or I get up and walk into another room. Any advice on what might work? I've been trying to get her to walk with me in the backyard more and i'm doing more short quick pulls with "come bella" than we are walking and I'm not sure if I'm just making her disinterested or if she's just stubborn.
Thanks
Sir? but what if I dont have a table. and hes too big and too strong. Hes 5 month old Lab
Hey Stonnie what kind of treats are you using? Or are you just using the food you feed them?
what if I use a harness for my pup? is it better if I switch to using a collar?
What treats do you use mine never eats his like that.
If your dog doesn’t come to you when you call him what do u do? I just got a golden lab of this kind he’s about 7 weeks but still doesn’t know his name when we call him
hows it going? we just adopted a 6 month kennel-raised yellow who knows nothing, nada, zero, zilch except fetching lol. He didnt even have a name till a month ago!! we have our hands full! 😁
he has a 'got bitcoin' shirt on in 2014
What treat are you feeding the lab while training can you please give me the name and company.
Hey Stonnie, I have a 8 weeks old lab, and she doesn´t always listen, when I call her sometimes she comes, and some others she doesn´t. Most of the times when she comes, is because she knows I´m gonna give her something she needs. weather is food, water, etc. What do you suggest me to do?
