    Great little ep. I do want to point out though that bending from the Avatar show, at its maximum capacity, would be incredibly terrifying if you yourself were a "non-bender". The show's a kids' show, so they only scratch the surface of how lethal this theoretical metascience would be. Think about this: using airbending, you could pull the air out of a person's lungs or just flatly prevent them from breathing; you could even remove the space within their body. Of course, you've already covered the potential of waterbending. Using firebending directly on the body, you could completely remove the heat from one's body-or cause someone's internal body temperature to rise far beyond what is survivable. Finally something that the show did not cover that is extremely dark would, in fact be earthbending: human bodies are composed of the same [periodic table] elements and thus you could bend and contort someone's bones, muscles, and even their teeth. Real bending used for lethal purposes would be gruesome.

    • @theogbunn7672
      @theogbunn7672 Před 5 lety +3

      Maybe, but the reason a bullet penetrates so we'll is because so much force is being impacted on such a small point, if it hits a flat surface (even a very thin one) that has high enough tensile strength not to rip apart, it's spreading out that force over a much larger surface area so it isn't all concentrated on that tip of the bullet.

    The John Wick fabric you’re looking for would be a few very thin layers of UHMWPE with a few layers of Aramid on top. UHMWPE is mush stronger and abrasion resistant than the aramids, however it is not very heat resistant. You would need the aramid on top for the heat of the stopped projectile as they are typically very hot from leaving the barrel as well as the energy of impact. This could be made relatively thin and inconspicuous while retaining the tensile, shear, and compression strength needed to stop most handgun projectiles. You could still be severely hurt or incapacitated from a magnum caliber as the instant KE transfer will be massive. The layers will not be thick enough to slow the projectile over a longer period of time or to disperse the impact over a larger area. Possibly a hard armor that is form fit as an under shirt could mitigate this. It could also be made of UHMW, but fiber reinforced.

    So a space expert was able to navigate to, enter, and find Kyle in, the void. So maybe the void a pocket of empty space? Maybe it can be accessed by traversing a wormhole? Or maybe it’s actually inside a black hole in some sort of weird pocket dimension. I just think it’s interesting she was able to find it and enter it.
    She also kinda reminds me of Captain Disillusion’s lady friend that shows up in his videos sometimes.

    • @osbornyoung3529
      @osbornyoung3529 Před 5 lety +1

      that is possible. in theory the expansion energy from the big bang would slowly be cancelled out by gravity after everything expands far enough. then slowly the universe would shrink back down. as it becomes smaller again it becomes dense and as the mass increases it shrinks faster. then it squeezes down until it cannot contain itself anymore and another big bang happens. or that's my understanding of how it works. the universe is infinitely repeating.

At some time during human evolution, humans were "colorblind". Then the gene that allows us to see colors like we do, started propagating. So maybe there is a third kind of photoreceptor (After rods and cones) that would allow some people to see into the infrared, or UV.

    DARPA worked on carbon fiber nanotube induced spider silk armor. Although many of the spiders died, of the ones who didn't some incorporated the nanotubes structure into their spider silk making it stronger than regular spider silk. The problem of the focused kinetic force still remains without steel, graphine, or hardened kevlar trauma plates you would still have internal organ damage and broken bones.

    Almost everyone answer the speed of light question wrong. The speed doesn't have to do with mean travel distance. That is scattering. The speed change is due to light being an em wave. It interacts with with the electric field of the material it is passing through which is why it changes frequency and direction and then it "speeds" up when leaving. As in it doesn't have any interference to slow it down after leaving the material. Gotta stop thinking of light as a particle when it comes to speed and refraction.

    On the subject of "Bullet-proof" Fashionable Suits, there ARE actually companies that are designing and making designer clothing that includes synthetic spider-silk (At least that's what they call it) that provides a high degree of bullet protection. Yes graphene would help, but without something to absorb the kinetic energy, like the micro-springs in spidersilk drag-line, it's not going to be easy to protect someone from the penetrative capacity of even a small to medium caliber round.

    If it's too thin the bullet would cause too much damage before stopping, even if it doesn't penetrate.
    I'd go for a layer inside the kevlar/carbon that goes rigid only when it's under extreme stress, such as a non newtonian fluid. This would make it a bit heavier but without damaging mobility, with the fluid boosting resistance to deformation only when needed, so the bullet looses a lot more energy close to the impact instead of travelling further

    As far as I know, bullet proof clothing was discovered when ww1 pilots wore silk scarves and were hit by bullets or shrapnel. the shrapnel pierced their bodies, but not the silk, allowing the shrapnel to be pulled out by pulling out the scarf.
    A thick "bulletproof" jacket adds padding to reduce pressure at the impact point as well as unbreakable fibres.
    If the suit is thin enough, it might also be pushed into the body by a bullet, no matter how unbroken the fibres are.
    This might be why suits are layered and well fitting...

  • @PhantomGraff

    The density you were talking about, hawkings back to the superman key issue we had with maintaining its structure at that amount of matter, and at that density if someone could somehow transplant it into the earth's core, it would expand to the point it would envelop the whole planet.
    There can also be technically no light speed constant. It can be slowed as you said, but sped up, through forces interactions, so the basis of a constant is relative to perspective, because there is no consistent actual speed, its what's measured, in the fourth dimension.
    Or this is all opinionated conjecture on my part, love the show.

    I'd personally be very happy if these live episodes were to always feature Dr. Moo.
    For one, your combined knowledge will allow you to answer more questions, or answer certain questions more accurately.
    However the main reason I'd like to see her as a regular part of these live shows is because I assume Because Science and Because Space will be entirely separate, by which I mean Dr. Moo won't usually appear in Because Science episodes, and Kyle won't usually appear in Because Space episodes.
    So I think having you both appear in the live episodes will be good, it's nice seeing you interact with each other but more than anything, it makes it all feel like one cohesive channel; like you're both part of a bigger whole rather than just two people doing their own thing but on the same channel.

    US company Aspetto produce dress suits with ballistic linings that are rated to NIJ Level IIIA (up to .357 Magnum). The bruising and broken ribs etc from the extreme backface deformation would be brutal, but otherwise it's as depicted in John Wick 2 and 3. The actual fabric shown in JW2 is clearly not Kevlar though, as you say - it looks like it's a form of neoprene, intended to be some exotic fabric as they likely didn't realise that you can stop pistol rounds with a dress suit. They also cost $5,000.
