Yeah, I get that they wanted to really push Singleton decks, but it is EASILY the best 8 mana board clear ever printed AND it gives you 5 armor and a very good hero power. Making it wipe your board as well wouldn't even be an issue for some control decks, would just make it less universally the best play if you have a developed board.

Reno is exceptionally powerful but it isn't broken. It's just a really amazing pay off for highlander. A reno nerf means 90% of the good cards released this expansion literally become useless. Highlander literally never sees play without reno rn.

it's just so bonkers . Reno was the only card I crafted instantly, and he became 3rd card in my E.T.C. Band Manager in every deck as an option - even in taunt warrior / Naga-DH . I totally wouldn't mind to see the mentioned nerf , to make it a both-sided wipe - it would still be amazing versus Portal, DRs, and as a sorta class-neutral Plague of Death ( Uldum, Priest Spell )
I decided to come back to hearthstone to see how the new expansion was. Game one I fought sif mage who used 0 mana snake oils to OTK me turn 8 from 28, then the following game azerite warlock who killed me even faster. I uninstalled the game again.
Warrior is reflective of what blizzard originally should be doing with every other class. That's why he is terrible. The cards that you play cannot compete with the other classes running broken, unadjusted garbage. This continues expansion to expansion which is why wild is, and continues to be a mess. When warrior gets equally busted cards as other classes it sees proper adjustment (example pirate warrior). When other classes have the same, there is no need for balance. It "feels" fair. The logic falters. This is blizzard logic. This falls to microsofts hands now. A bad buy. Now for wild. They revert nerfs and ban certain cards. Makes 0 sense. Naga Sea Witch is still making cards cost 5. Meanwhile mana cheat is allowed on SEVERAL other cards.

Reno needs a nerf as well. Just a casual card that clears the board, stops all death rattles from triggering, only allows opponent to play one minion next turn, and gives you a busted hero power. Not broken at all.
Can't wait until it gets nerfed. I've grown accustomed to Blizzard's constant overvaluing and bloated stats and gross imbalance, but there's virtually no counterplay to this strategy outside of what, getting lucky on an Objection! if you're playing Secret Mage against someone who doesn't know that card exists? It would still suck to play against even if they changed it to just straight up 10 damage that was affected by armor but at least that would be slightly more manageable. Reducing someone's max health and getting 10 health yourself is way too much. I'll just be over here having to perfectly manage curve for 10 consecutive turns playing Elemental Shaman just to have Skarr do the same damage, but with the damage affected by armor and having no heal attached.
Warlock got the cheapest best value front end excavate package on top of this and a crazy powerful excavate support legend that can be used offensively or defensively as well as the best reward. I really wonder do Blizzard play test their game at all sometimes. Meanwhile rogue is desperately trying to excavate 8 times to get some free random spells and warrior is crying in a corner. Even changing this to 10 damage life steal seems like it would be too powerful but at least heals and armor would count then.
Rogue definitely got screwed with the excavate reward. Random spells, even at 0 mana are often terrible and only good for a hail Mary play as an out to avoid getting leathal’d next turn. Random spells at 0 mana almost never win the game for you. I don’t see how you can give such a clear cut win condition as an excavate reward to some classes and give absolute nonsense to others.
This Warlock deck is so obviously and predictably overpowered that Blizzard’s staff should be not just embarrassed. I recommend public tar-and-feathering.
The effect is insane because of the steal 10 health capping the opponent's health and going through armour. I think it would be a GOOD excavate reward still even if it was deal 10 dmg, life steal for 4 mana. That's a pyroblast for FOUR mana that heals with a 5 5 body. To make it better, the steal aspect increasing your hp cap can be kept. BUT, I expect the nerf will be something like steal 8 hp instead of 10 so it requires 4 snakes (or even 7 dmg for 5 snakes) to kill the opponent from 30. The hp cap changing and stealing through armour though is still very busted.
the fact that it goes through armor is some alpha hearthstone level dumbass card effect. I went into a warlock match with my renethal control war hoping to just out armor it, low and behold i look down at my health and see it's 5 remaining with 30+ armor and he zola's his snake. on my turn I'm faced with a warlock with almost 50 health, I have 5 max, and I'm out of dirty rat effects because all 4 of them missed every bounce minion and snake itself. but at least I played my legendary treasure that made a 5/5 and 2 8/8 taunts for 5 mana before dying!
I say just slap "Can't be targeted by hero powers or spells" onto it so it can't be bounced back. Even if it took 8 health, if it's bounced once that's a 16 health lead your opponent has on you. It's like Denathrius on speed.

After playing with the other version of this deck, I can definitely agree the snake is busted. As in, not even the upcoming nerf will destroy the deck unless they nuke it. They could do quite a few nerfs and it would still feel like a good card, just without the utter unstoppable domination it is now. We can joke about Blizzard's track record of nuking cards into the sun, but I feel like those days are mostly past and the nerfs in the last year or two have overwhelmingly been fine with only a few outliers.
Loved playing against this deck for the first time today. Lovely experience. By turn 6 he had already excavated 4 times played snake into youthful, turn 6 snake into saloon brewmaster. And I was left at 9 hp with no way of healing myself just basically death. He just managed by turn 5 to have literally every card he needed to win. Great experience. Just lovely. I think it would be reasonable to nerf it to stealing 5 life, if they want to keep that same effect. Otherwise, they should change it to be a typical lifesteal damage effect
Lifesteal deal 10 to enemy hero would still be played and bounced to hand. They originally came up this gimmick for Mograine (he used to reduce max hp by 3) but decided it was unfun to play against - what happened in the meeting rooms between that decision and this card? Lines of coke, i'm guessing

@@TavaI’m playing it atm, it giving you 10 health too is absolutely useful as you often don’t have the mana to play it twice. You have to be at 10 mana for that with a 2 mana bounce. Often you bounce it once and destroy them over multiple turns
It’s in a weird spot where I think it should bypass armor but it shouldn’t take max health. But the only wax to bypass armor is to steal max health, it’s weird

Ban/draft system would mean hs is not for casuals anymore. And that is their biggest paying group. Bans are in pro tour and seeing how poorly it does. Don't think it is ever happening
It's EVERYWHERE in Platinum. I swear every other game is against Warlock. I've literally seen one DH since the expansion released and I don't even know if I've seen a single Warrior. The power disparity between classes is comical.
honestly, my least favorite xpac yet due to nobody allowing any fun to be had. All i have been facing are snake warlocks and plague knights. Neither one of them is fun to play against when all I wanted to do this xpac is play some slow highlander decks
death-knight plagues turns off reno decks, there is no need to nerf a deck that already has bad matchups. Snake Warlock only bad matchup is another Snake warlock
@@berelentless5327 only 3 classes i see on ladder, are Druid, DK, and Warlock. And 95% of those DKs are frost/unholy Reska builds with Helya included. Rea will rotate the exact minute Helya does, "when it rotates" is poor faith discussion. heres the big picture you are missing.. There is a tech card to remove the dragons nest, that card is reno and can be added to any deck. but if you have a serious issue with playing against it, you can completely decimate them with a DK deck.
I ran the excavate package in mill warlock with Rin 😂 and its super useful now that you can wicked shipment + phylactery to excavate if you want to win that way instead of milling dozens of cards 😂
Lol I couldn’t make it through the first game. just listening to anyone playing snake warlock complain about any other archetype is comedy. People complain about Druid but Druid loses to aggro and combo decks ( naga demon hunter, Odyn warrior). You’re lucky if you last past turn 6 against most non highlander pally decks if you’re Druid. I loved control lock before this expansion and now I’m too disgusted in that snake card to even touch warlock now
That's not true, pure paly and other aggro decks can blast it before the snake comes down. But if you're trying any of the new fun value decks then you just die turn 8-10 with 0 interaction
It's awful. I genuinely consider conceding the second I see a Warlock excavate because the outcome feels almost inevitable. You can't even try to rush them down because Warlock has bonkers control tools and taunts. It feels like you're just sitting there waiting to die.

I understand what you mean, aggro can really shit on this deck but in this meta it looks like it’s gonna turn out to be control heavy, so this card at that cost combined with its effect is ridiculous. They either change it from “steal 10” to “deal 10” or make it an 8 mana card.

Should be like 5 or 6 cuz brann, bounces, multiple excavates etc. It is eventually 100% lethal through ice block but its still a little more chill

It's EVERYWHERE in Platinum. I swear every other game is against Warlock. I've literally seen one DH since the expansion released and I don't even know if I've seen a single Warrior. The power disparity between classes is comical.

honestly, my least favorite xpac yet due to nobody allowing any fun to be had. All i have been facing are snake warlocks and plague knights. Neither one of them is fun to play against when all I wanted to do this xpac is play some slow highlander decks
Naga dh and dragon druid are even more busted tho
The standard meta looks awesome (irony) and that snake is the tip of the iceberg

I'm enjoying Excavate Lock while it lasts. On the flip side, my plague/blood DK has consistently won AGAINST this?

death-knight plagues turns off reno decks, there is no need to nerf a deck that already has bad matchups. Snake Warlock only bad matchup is another Snake warlock

@@berelentless5327 only 3 classes i see on ladder, are Druid, DK, and Warlock. And 95% of those DKs are frost/unholy Reska builds with Helya included. Rea will rotate the exact minute Helya does, "when it rotates" is poor faith discussion.
heres the big picture you are missing.. There is a tech card to remove the dragons nest, that card is reno and can be added to any deck. but if you have a serious issue with playing against it, you can completely decimate them with a DK deck.

I ran the excavate package in mill warlock with Rin 😂 and its super useful now that you can wicked shipment + phylactery to excavate if you want to win that way instead of milling dozens of cards 😂
Lol I couldn’t make it through the first game. just listening to anyone playing snake warlock complain about any other archetype is comedy. People complain about Druid but Druid loses to aggro and combo decks ( naga demon hunter, Odyn warrior). You’re lucky if you last past turn 6 against most non highlander pally decks if you’re Druid. I loved control lock before this expansion and now I’m too disgusted in that snake card to even touch warlock now

That's not true, pure paly and other aggro decks can blast it before the snake comes down. But if you're trying any of the new fun value decks then you just die turn 8-10 with 0 interaction

It's awful. I genuinely consider conceding the second I see a Warlock excavate because the outcome feels almost inevitable. You can't even try to rush them down because Warlock has bonkers control tools and taunts. It feels like you're just sitting there waiting to die.

Reno's battlecry needs to be a permanent effect that lasts entire game in order to stop all the oppressive Warlock shit.

When you're a Hearthstone streamer and you can't even do the basic math to wipe the board with defile. I swear every hs streamer nowadays is this bad. I'd be hilarious to watch these guys play older decks like patron warrior or otk decks

shit on this deck but in this meta it looks like it’s gonna turn out to be control heavy, so this card at that cost combined with its effect is ridiculous. They either change it from “steal 10” to “deal 10” or make it an 8 mana card.
