    Watch Part 1: • Understanding Form
    Hello, I am follygon and in this video I am going to show you some tips on how to more easily understand form. This is a continuation from a previous video I made, so make sure you watch that one first: • Understanding Form
    For this demonstration I will be using a 2D concept by Park Jinsuki.

    The outline helps a lot, I used to find the typical anime head more difficult than a realistic head or even a stylized realism head. Thanks for this great video.

    So I basically watched this and instead of modeling I drew snow white, which I guess is better than my normal routine of not doing either.

    I recently learned how to sculpt and I have to say that as a 2D artist your 2D art fundamental ABSOLUTELY HELPS MASSIVELY when it comes to sculpting, 90% is understanding the software, the 10% is applying your knowledge. I initially thought sculpting would be hard, but it wasnt for me funnily enough, I knew how to draw anime heads in every angle from imagination and being able to turn a 3D head in every angle and sculpt and correct feels like drawing. very appliable.
    If you are a 2D or 3D, learn the opposite skillset so you can be better at your craft

    Awesome video!!! i am starting to learn zbrush by watching videos like yours and i would like to ask a very nob question.. that i see very often but dont know how its done.. how do you increase or decrease the brush size so fast? same goes for the other parameter, the Z intensity? do you pre-define certain values and use some kind of macro or hotkey? Thx in advance!

  • @dejannjegus720
    @dejannjegus720 Před 5 lety +5

    Nice video... a few questions, I've noticed you didn't touch Z add slider value not even once, why? You usually don't (ever), or, won't (ever), to mess with it, or you did set it once in the beginning (depending on the type of a brush) of a sculpt and you don't touch it all the way? Also, can you show us how do you calibrate a tablet for Zbrush... or to try to formulate the question better adjust Zbrush to a tablet? By calibrate I don't think setting up the different buttons on a pen or tablet in the drivers section, but adjusting the "Brush modifier" i.e. something like this czcams.com/video/C1k3PM5Jo6I/video.html but in more details... let's say you bought a new tablet and you are trying it out, and adjusting it to Zbrush, and Zbrush to it? Do you rely more on the pressure sensitivity of a tablet or changing Zadd values of different brushes? The reason why I ask all of this is that during my playing with the Zbrush (a long time a go), my every second "move" was "undo"... constant battle with pressure/zadd values... it's either too much, or too little ... I couldn't find that "golden zone" where you can relax and rely on only one of those two without breaking of tips or poking a hole in tablet's surface. Plus, when you add the possibility of resetting a tool with the "Unify" button ( czcams.com/video/8cdFQTpxiR0/video.html) and the fact that brushes strength's behave differently with different sizes of the model/tool it all became's one big mess.

    • @Follygon
      @Follygon  Před 5 lety +3

      There is no ZAdd slider. It's a toggle. You are most likely referring to ZIntensity. I adjust my ZIntensity all the time. But I do have my custom brushes set up to my liking already to keep that to a minimum.
      There is no quick answer to your other questions. It's like sculpting in any other medium. You get the feel for it with enough mileage.
      Unify is a great tool, but I don't see how that is related to your other questions at all. Brush strength (ZIntesity) is not affected by the scale of the model. I would recommend getting in and playing around a bit more.
      Good luck!

    The pinched line that goes around the eye socket you have connecting down to the corner of the lips. If its the eye socket, wouldn't it connect back up to the side of the nose to represent the eye socket?

    im kind of new to zbrush, i wanted to know if i can use sculptris pro instead of dynamesh ? I see lot of tutorials in which they use dynamesh, but i find sculptris to be better because you add geometry only where required instead of subdividing the whole mesh. what is your opinion on this?

    • @Follygon

    how does your geometry look so smooth like its high poly when you only have dynamesh set to 48? when I move my sphere around to look like a head and dynamesh at 48 it shows big grid like squares all over.

    • @Follygon
      @Follygon  Před 4 lety

      Dynamesh is dependent on the scale of your object. Just increase the resolution to get more polygons 👍

    Just out of curiosity what a level of anatomy is required for this? I heard that's stylization comes after realistic proportions are learnt.

    • @Follygon
      @Follygon  Před 5 lety +7

      Sculpt what you see and fill in the blanks with what you know. Just go for it and see what you can do.
      For anatomy study, I always recommend to study and look up reference when you get stuck. And then apply what you learned from there. No sense in filling your brain with a bunch of information if you don't immediately find it applicable.
