  • Track 4 from his eighth album “Hermit of Mink Hollow” released in 1978 copyright Bearsville Records. It was recorded at Utopia Sound Studios at his home on Mink Hollow Road in Lake Hill, New York. The title reflects the endless hours spent in the studio being the perfectionist he is, recording himself playing all the instruments and singing all the vocals on the album. It received mostly positive reviews as a return to the form of his breakthrough album “Something/Anything?” released in 1972. It reached No. 42 in the U.K., No. 36 in the U.S., No. 27 in Canada and No. 11 in Australia. Written and produced by Todd Rundgren. Featuring:
Todd Rundgren - All instruments and vocals
Why don't you write your mother, why don't you call your family?
They're expecting an answer, spare them your strange behavior
What of your expectations, weren't you going to show us all
Some new kind of dancer, this season's singing savior?
I'm too far gone and it's no use pretending I
Could ever forget what I done
I'm already too far gone, I got no bridges left to burn
It's better to keep movin' on (such a long way down)
(Too far to fall) too much trouble to (turn back around)
Think of your friends and neighbors suffering through your lamest years
You must owe them something, come now, you must remember
Haven't you finished playing, get down to business soon because your
Lean years are coming, June now, but come December
I'm too far gone and it's no use pretending I
Could ever forget what I done
I'm already too far gone, I got no bridges left to burn
It's better to keep movin' on (such a long way down)
(Too far to fall) too much trouble to (turn back around)
(Too far gone, and it's no use pretending I)
(Could ever forget what I done)
(I'm already too far gone, I got no bridges left to burn)
(It's better to keep movin' on, such a long way down)
(Too far to fall) too much trouble to (turn back around)

Had the vinyl way back when, Used to listen this track often - I'd screwed up ROYALLY & was no going back.
Provided a means to accept, "What I'd done" ... Imagine TR had a particular guy in mind (himself?), but it sure
    rang true ...

Btw - MANY years later I finally got around to "thanking" Rundgren - by driving quite a distance (different state).
Absolutely worth the time & expense, great show. Turned out tho - later read in a newspaper review - that Rundgren
didn't want guys like me attend his shows. Still love this song but if he doesn't want me listening ...
Finally in the RRHOF, long overdue.
