    Hi Lisa! Also if you make canes or embroidery looking pieces you will want a firmer clay. You will have less distortion as you reduce the canes and it's easier to make those thin/small pieces in the embroidery pieces. Blessings!

    • @Amber-le8ds
      @Amber-le8ds Před 3 lety +3

      I used to have this problem as well, and I figured out I wasn't baking them long enough. I would suggest baking for 35 + mins. Fimo clay will become very felxable, super scuplty reacts in a different way and I wouldn't recommend using that brand for jewelry. Different brands have a different reaction to baking times and heat just make sure you are baking according to instructions.

    • @user-yx2cn7dn6c
      @user-yx2cn7dn6c Před 3 lety

      Nine month late but I’d also love a video about this. I use Fimo soft since I can’t get my hands on anything else right now, and I find them breaking no matter how long I bake them. I’ve baked for 30 mins as the package says - they break. I bake for 45 minutes - they break. And yes I bake on the right temp, though my oven isn’t very good at keeping the temperature, it diffs 20 C up and down during baking 😕

      @@user-yx2cn7dn6c Hey, i use fimo soft and premo to make jewellery they are both amazingly flexible when baked however you need to condition them properly. If you dont condition them well enough the polymers wont bind together and they will just break.

    I tried Souffle and Kato and I fell in love with Souffle and I totally hate Kato. With the Souffle you don’t need to sand the peaces after baking because they look awesome and also there aren’t bubbles (it was a little bite sticky because the weather in Spain is super hot) with Kato is just the opposite. Bubbles, fingerprints, super hard to extrude... and I tried everything to avoid the bubbles and fingerprints, even working with 1 tile on top to make pressure and cleaning the surface after baking with pure acetone but the result was unsuccessfully! Thanks again! :)

      Kato makes truly _immaculate_ canes, though. You honestly won't get a crisper, sharper finish from any other brand of clay.

    I almost ordered the amazon kit but found some soufflé at my local store! I didn’t even watch your video prior to this, but I actually brought the right types of clay for the most part! Can you please share more about this conditioning solution? I have firmo and I actually like how firm it was after baking but it was so difficult to mold which is why I didn’t want to purchase it anymore. But if I have a conditioner maybe that will help. I didn’t see any issues baking with firmo/looking plastic (could’ve been my color selection) but I will keep an eye out!

    Fimo Professional is the first clay I used, and I love it. The pure colors are great because I can use their color mixing formulas to get the exact colors I want every time. It bakes up great too. It also plays well with other brands of polymer clay. I definitely recommend trying it. I’ve tried the others, but I always end up going back to Fimo Professional. The Fimo leather effects is pretty cool too, but the colors don’t fully blend because of the fibers.

I've found Fimo to be both crumble AND sticky at the same time. How?! Needles to say, no Fimo for me lol I completely agree with your take on Sculpee original. It's like trying to work with frosting! I was wondering, with your tutorials, you mention clay conditioner - a lot. My question is, does it compromise the integrity of the clay itself? My thought is it may weaken it. I just started making earrings and I just discovered a new trick a few days ago...mix a small amount of gray granite with white clay and you get the white granite ;)

    I found out that Sculpey products use animal ingredients which makes them not sustainable but Kato and Cernit are animal cruelty free hence why they are tougher than other brands. I recently made the switch to those 2. Having said that sculpey is working on a line that’s free from anima ingredients.

      Omg i sure hope so because I got kato but my hands are raaaawww from attempting to condition it and I say attempting because I've been at it for two hours and nothing !! I've tried a machine and my hands and nothing. I'm losing hope 😔😪

      @@phoenixrising9484 i have used fimo pro and soft and effect. All of them were sooooo firm and hard. I chopped them into very very very tiny pieces then added some drops of water mix it very well and knead it. Takes some time and effort but it will turn great.
      PS: don't add too much water or it will become sticky

    I've just started using clay and did lots of research on baking and whether a clay should be flexible ... apparently they will be flexible because it is a plastic ... however if the oven temperature is right and it is baked long enough with a tile in the oven to stabilize the temperature it should be ok for jewellery. I bake for one hour in a convection oven at 160C and I've had no trouble with discolouring or bubbling even with really cheap clay. I plan to coat my clays in clear two part resin to make it super strong. However, the handling of some of the clay has been super soft and sticky ... no good for canes.
