- Metalcore masterminds ERRA have returned with their latest release "Neon"-a record that is a beautiful as it is brutal. Vocalist/guitarist Jesse Cash and bassist Conor Heese recently caught up with APTV to discuss the earnest and literal motif of the record and the unlikely inspirations that help the band build their vibe.
If you've been jamming "Disarray" and "Valhalla" non-stop, this is a perfect companion to the record. Go Behind The Streams and learn all about the nitpicking that helped create one of 2018's most complex metal records.
"NEON" is available now!

Jesse Cash is one of my favorite musicians. Really like this new album! Already listened to it like a dozen times.
Expiate and Valhalla are must play for live shows.
Aw man, I love Unify. The last two tracks are my favorites at the moment.
Agreed man, They're both amazing tracks
genuinely unify is one of my favorite tracks from erra. the solo has so much emotion and i love jt's lyrics on the hook
Please play Expiate live!
Tosin would approve this comment
My favorite track on the album!
I'm so happy that they love Architects, because they're my other favourite band. Architects, Northlane and ERRA tour? Holy shit imagine that
6:15 Northlane are the main reason I got into Erra because they toured together last year, both amazing bands, especially live
They're touring again together this year
So glad ERRA mentioned Architects as a big influence (kinda knew already but still)!! They're by far my favourite band!
I got into ERRA recently, I struggled with their earlier stuff, but it slowly grew on me only about one month before Neon came out. This new album has blown me away, definitely one of my top acts of the last 12 months.
I think augment and impulse were cohesive as well. All the songs from erra's albums fit together. Also the theme in neon is like a very realistic topic while in the old albums it was the question about the big thing beyond humanity.
Edit: Guys!!!! No!! It does not need to be darker. This one is quite dark but darkness is not erra to me! Erra was a questioning band to find answers about things that are more important than everdays life!!
10/10 album neon was so good!! Although for me, augment is the best album hands down! I wish for the next album we get something like an augment sequel. I would cry
After listening to their entire discography a whole bunch of times (including Neon at this point), I can honestly say that this is their most cohesive and well put together record from a fan perspective. It isn't as heavy as Augment, and may not be quite as catchy as Drift, but this album masters what makes ERRA great. If you enjoy ERRA's desire to create emotional metal with deep layering, you'll absolutely adore this record like I have. Been listening non-stop since it dropped. Thank you boys for another outstanding body of work to jam to.
If Northlane and ERRA co-headlined a full, US tour... best gig ever.
your dream has come true lol
You going ? They are!!
I definitely noticed the nu type of deftones influence. Good stuff.
I moved on from metal to other genres long ago but bands like Erra keep me coming back
Jesse looks like he hasn't slept, must be too hyped!
was going to say this XD
he always looks like that lol
he's looks like he has seen some shit
They've been on Summer Slaughter for a while now
Yeah, I saw them in Guelph!
Breach is a PERFECT song
Unify has such a smooth solo at the end it's a shame it's the least likely to be played live the the whole album is really good regardless!
That’s such bittersweet news about what songs you guys will be playing live. Bitter because Unify is my favourite song off Neon, and sweet cause I really enjoy Neon as a whole and any song that’s played from Neon is Sweet
Y'all keep doing what your doing! Just make sure you keep coming through the Hampton roads/rva area!
Unify is my favorite. Too bad that won’t be play live
God I’ve been waiting for this album for so long. They’ve outdone themselves yet again
Love these guys, and Neon is incredible!
I think I just watched the best interview ever !
I got to see this band last night didn't know who it they were and fell in love. I got them to sign my shirt it was pretty cool.
I like this band bcause the melody of there songs is so cool. I like emotional lyrics makes me inspired everyday what i do and also makes me calm in times of problems. Just keep up the emotional inspirational tone and lyrics guys. I appreciate the coolness of your band.thumbs up from me guys...
Expiate, unify and signal fire are my favorites off the albums such good songs
I just found Erra last night and I am fucking HOOKED!!!!! This is definitely one of my new FAVORITE bands! I L😍VE SAOSIN AND DEFTONES! And this band is like a SUPER BLEND of both! Like Deftones and SAOSIN on STEROIDS!!
best band AP has interviewed to date hands down.
Its funny how they admit that they took influence from northlane and architects because there are two songs that sound like those two bands on the album that I noticed immediately. Great songs too
Fantastic New Cd by ERRA I been playing it over and over again and track 8,9,10 so intense of NEON OMG!!!!!!!!
Album of the year for me. Well done boys
Excellent album and agree with the comment about emotions.
I really liked jesse putting tons of cleans into the album. Best voice out there right now.
DUDES! Why are you least likely to play unify? The instrumental at the end has the MOST LEGENDARY sound and riffing I've ever heard. I would do anything to hear that live. Can't wait until concerts come back. You will be the first show I go to!
Jesse is an incredible artist
Why wouldn't you play Unify live? Just curious...that was the first stand-out track to me.
NeonDesertDesign the second to last track?
Love it 🖤🖤🖤
The breach song is heard in 35 times in month that's more addictive song 🤘🤘🤘🤘
It's funny because the first thing I thought when I heard Monolith was "This sounds a lot like Marcus from Northlane". I wondered if they were inspired by Northlanes progression. Pretty interesting to see that was some kind of inspiration. Amazing fucking album all around
I would love it if ERRA toured with ABR forever haha
this comment aged very well
@@notmrcrowley9757 like a fine wine
August Burns Red came up and I hit thumbs up reflexively. 😂
Why not unify? Thats my favorite haha.
Yeah, I don't understand. That is debatably the best song on the album, lol.
Expiate you guys.... Expiate.
Dustin Dockery Great song, too.
Dustin Dockery they should play both live. Easily my favorites on the album as well as disarray and Valhalla
unify
Are you guys going to share which recording studio/producer your used for Neon
Unify!!!!
yo unify is my favorite track on neon come on guys!!!
What? No why would they not play unify 😭
Expiate and Ultimata live!
What's the song at 2:48 in the background?
IN MY OPINION NEON IS THE 2ND BEST METAL/METALCORE ALBUM OF 2018 AND THAT'S SAYING A LOT. HONESTLY GREY HAVEN'S EMPTY BLACK ALBUM IS A GAME CHANGER AND THE BEST METALCORE ALBUM IN SEVERAL YEARS, BUT FOR ME ERRA IS BECOMING ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS AND I THINK I LISTENED TO GHOSTS OF NOTHING LIKE 10 TIMES IN A ROW AND IS MY FAVORITE TRACK ON NEON. MY 3RD FAVORITE ALBUM OF 2018 AND THE BEST COMEBACK OF 2018 (SORRY, FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS) IS BLEEDING THROUGH AND THEIR NEW ALBUM LOVE WILL KILL ALL. COINCIDENTLY FTFD AND BLEEDING THROUGH HAVE BOTH EXPERIENCED CRAZY TOUR BUS ACCIDENTS WHICH LUCKILY RESULTED IN NO CASUALTIES BUT MAYBE THESE EXPERIENCES HAVE MADE BOTH BANDS STRONGER AND BETTER THAN EVER. METAL IS NOT DEAD IN 2018, JUST THE BIG CROSS-COUNTRY FESTIVALS LIKE OZZFEST, MAYHEM, AND EVEN WARPED, WHICH I MISS ALL 3 DEARLY.
Never heard of this band before. They seem cool
Bella Marie check them out and spread the word!
Listen to their album Augment. It's their best work. Whether you like metal or even a lot of softer rock, there's something you will love from this band.
Augment album is the best of all!!
Dig the interview. But there is never ever a reason to cut down the amount of information the band gives out. Don't know where that started happening in interviews..
Erra is amazing they deserve millions but unfortunately that's not the way it goes
Aww unify was my fav song :(
Great questions!! I wish you would have asked about the production and why it is so disappointingly flat ☹️ this record would have been twice as good if its production was closer to their previous albums
Such awesome dudes and extremely gifted musicians. I did an interview with Jesse & JT when they were still working on Neon, here ya go: czcams.com/video/EB3sGu42xfo/video.html
Is Conor wearing a Tool shirt?
Also I prefer old northlane not because I'm a stickler I do enjoy new northlane but god Adrian's vocals were phenomenal and I miss him
I honestly just want andromeda 2 ....
“What have you done my daughter.”
Go home.
Best fuckin band ever
I guess it doesn't get any better than augment
Once Alan and Garrison left, I couldn't get into any of their new stuff. Listening to Andromeda, Impulse and Augment, it makes you miss the good ol' days.
Evan B still better than 99% of all metalcore bands
They did play Hybrid Earth with JT last time I saw them which was pretty awesome!
Very good album but I feel like their needed to be more aggresive riffs and solos. Augment 2.0 please.
ChopChan Definitely agree
This album and Drift were way ahead of augment in my opinion
Not surprised they like new Northlane better than old. Pretty much how the direction they’re going in now - worse.
It's Conor Hesse! Not Heese. Don't disrespect this legend
Jesse, get some sleep man :/! It must be stressful being in a touring band man!
neon just punched false idols in the face... veil got alot of work to do to top this impossible shit !!!!
Don't understand why more people aren't pointing out that this album sounds like such a ripoff of Northlane's last two albums, it's crazy. And Erra's last albums didn't. I won't say it's not good music, but I think it should be acknowledged.
Drift was the shit.. listened to it almost every week.. it was crispy and kept your attention. Neon is boring.. and dull.. very bland production idk. Flat?
I hope Jesse is taking care of himself. He seems he hasn't slept for days! Take care Jesse and sleep for God's sake
Gave the record a listen through and it's my least favorite from all their work. I felt like the songs were too similar sounding, nothing really stands out. There were a couple vocal melodies and heavy parts that stood out slightly, but this album seems lazy for an ERRA record. Jessie can definitely do much better guitar work and the lyrics in general could be more in depth and thought provoking. Not terrible, but I definitely expect more from ERRA.
I love these guys but this new album isn't the best. After seeing this interview I think they tried TOO hard. It's good but not great.
Agreed... Honestly no tracks stand out on neon... drift was a better listen cover to cover
ashley coyne it's getting better but songs like monolith, signal fire, and hyperreality especially, don't do that for me. When Jesse sings in minor I just don't like how he sounds.
ashley coyne "no tracks stand out": dumbest thing I've read all day
Tony Harrop just my opinion bro, I love erra, just no feeling it... Don't be a dick
ashley coyne "dumbest thing I've read all day" is just my opinion. You sound like a person who's listened through the whole album 1 time and decided it's not good, when it's clearly some of the highest quality metalcore being released these days. Not sure where you're seeing the shortcomings.
This album is not heavy at all. I wouldn't ever call this metal either. Every album jesse says he was going through a hard time. Also it sounds the whole way through not necessarily cohesive but the same. And more over the same. So disappointed as a long time fan.
How the hell this album is not metal? Get the hell outta here metal elitist.
@@ankurtripathi5901 that's right, i hold music to standards you cant even comprehend. I would certainly consider myself an elitist.
