  • The Bosch Nyon on-board computer is finally available in the United States! And it's a brand new streamlined Bosch Nyon format for 2021. This Bosch Nyon review will take you through some key features, a ride review, and the answer to the question: Is the Bosch Nyon an upgrade you would like for your e-bike?

    The Bosch Nyon has been long awaited by fans of Bosch eBike systems. While we never were able to get the old Nyon in the States, the new one offers a similar experience, but in a smaller display. At Fly Rides, we focus mostly on electric mountain bikes so we want to see if the Bosch Nyon display is ideal for mountain bikers. A lot of eMTB riders want to focus on the trails and not on a display. Does the Bosch Nyon take away from the outdoor experience. Watch to see our thoughts!

      If you have a kiox then probably not, especially they have now added GPS though your phone. If any of the other displays then then definitely for 300 bucks, especially the assist levels adjusment. They are fixing the altitude part of the kiox at the moment.

    Although it is bigger than the Bosch Kiox display (I'm a minimalist), the color display and maps capabilities make the new Nyon display the best display on the market. The altitude graph is awesome! Bosch was really thoughtful when they put this together. No need to mount your phone or GPS (Garmin) peripherals to your handlebar anymore!

    Great review. I think bosch have nailed it in general. The display reminds me of haibike tq display I played with but better. Backward compatible and customizable. Between the kiox and nyon and the new motor and power tubes, I think they are leagues ahead of the other manufacturers. Bosch are doing what they do best, innovative and bomb proof products. I got mine delivered 2 weeks ago & love it! Have places in Germany & Switzerland & have tested it in both counties, to include creating my own routes, and as noted in this great review, it's great. Even most small single tracks are in the navigation system, which I also find amazing! Highly recommended!!!! (And it really doesn't seem that big (chunky) on the eBike (Cannondale Habit Neo))

    Good review, interesting for those who want that, but it doesn’t look crash proof and I know from experience that in some cases when these Bosch screens fail or get damaged the bike won’t work. Basically for UK riding it needs to be water proof and indestructible, like the one on my Specialized Turbo Levo (indestructible because it doesn’t have one)

  • @lazydave1140
    @lazydave1140 Před 3 lety

    I like the look of this, I mainly use my bike for off-road trails in the uk so hopefully it will cover all these, however I also like trail running so I wanted to get a gps that covers bikes and running, something I can take off the bike and throw in a rucksack, really don’t want to use my phone whilst cycling or running, so torn between this or the wahoo tour.

    I am thinking about upgrading my old GPS (Garmin Dakota). I've got a Scott E-Ride 2021 powered with a Bosch 4th Gen. engine and the Purion. Would you recommend going for a Garmin 530 or similar or ditching my Purion and getting a Nyon instead? Navigation is my main concern, although all these Nyon features seem really handy. Great video, mate! Best wishes and regards from Spain.

    Great video again! I need reading glasses & can't wear them on my bike so have to hard press through customised single Kiox screens - in other words I really just want Nyon for bigger font sizes & less thumbing ... i'm reading between the lines here & it's apparent the Nyon won't fit straight onto my 2020 Kiox mount 🙁. Does the dealer have to re-cable the Nyon all the way to the motor? Or is it just a mount change?

    • @FlyRidesUSA
      @FlyRidesUSA  Před 3 lety

      Hey! Thanks! The Kiox to Nyon is a very simple mount swap, so you're in luck! The Intuvia and Purion displays require a bit more rerouting of cables, but the Kiox is easy.

      Hey Mark! We did a bosch Smartphone review a bit back which I'll link to below. I actually don't think we have access to a Cobi system anymore in its original iteration where you can swap with the intuvia. Since Bosch bought them out it's just the smartphone hub over here now. I think you're right not to use your smartphone on trails for sure though. I have heard of the phones falling out of the holder on very bumpy terrain. Thanks for watching!

      If by apps you mean different tiles (like speed, altitude, calories burned, goals, etc) you can customize it to your liking as much as you want with lots of different tiles and layouts. If you mean to install your own applications, then sadly you cannot install anything new on it.

    How is the the navigation feature when riding in an urban environment? How detailed is it as a replacement for my phone using google or Apple Maps?

    • @FlyRidesUSA
      @FlyRidesUSA  Před 3 lety +6

      The navigation is damn near perfect in urban settings. More cycling friendly than google maps or Apple in my opinion. Plus, the map is right in front of you the whole time and it does still alert you. The reason I didn't feature it here is honestly because it's so good. There was really nothing to criticize.

    My concern is how secure the display is, connected magnetically to the handlebar mount. Can anyone here elaborate from experience out on the trails? It does protrude more than the KIOX. I screwed my KIOX into the mount via the screw hole in the back to make sure it doesn't get bucked off on rough terrain, a big hit or knocked off from a rogue branche etc. I don't fancy the idea of scaling a drop off into a creek to rescue my display after it has been dislodged from my bike. I can't mount any display on my top tube due to the battery charger port loacted near the headtube junction.
