A decent minimum wage, national health insurance and labour unions are completely normal to most European countries and that certainly does not make them communist. As I was growing up (Gen X) my mom (Boomer) was really clear that BB really were a very privileged generation - that there were so many of them, corporations and governments would always do what they want. That our media and products would always be marketed towards them and they would always be the dominant social force. I think maybe most Gen Xers kind of just accepted this. We were sort of the proud "Loser" generation, who had low ambition in some ways, "Slackers", coming of age during the recession of the 90s, in the shadow of this massive, vibrant, powerful, wealthy Boomer generation. Although we seem to have ended up ok, maybe we just had really low expectations.
