He deserves more appreciation. He is A Grammy award-nominated writer and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, he has written #1 songs in each of the four decades since his first #1 hit, 1978's "You Needed Me."
There's countless amazing songwriters that write amazing pieces and create wonderful arrangements. But they're humble enough to allow better singers, like Steve Perry, sing their work.
He is such a class act. I am so proud he is my FB friend. I am so honored to get to know him, he is a friendly, and kind man, great song writer, wonderful singer, and just a music legend.
I compare Randy to Dianne Warren who coincidentally also wrote a song for El Debarge. Randy is to Who’s Holding Donna while Dianne is to Rhythm of the Night. Both are great and this is being an understatement. These folks deserve to be popular and theor body of work must always be credited.
@WineSippingCowboy He wrote this for Steve Perry of Journey, not Joe P of Aerosmith. So, I guess Randy was not actually passed over for Permanent Vacation. If he had written for Aerosmith, they might have had another hit to boast. TY for listening to Randy.
Honestly, I like this version better than the track on Steve Perry’s album. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Steve Perry version, but this one seems to have a more intimate tone.
Thank you for your love and support ❤ towards me I hope you won't stop liking my inspirations. Hope to get some good compliments from you again. Have you ever been to any of my concerts?
@eljay345 Randy Goodrum might have been good for some rock ballads for Aerosmith. But Jim Vallance and Desmond Child were the ones who were chosen over Goodrum for the comback album Permanent Vacation.
Hey, Randy, did Peggy ever get you paid for doing our wedding gig? Long time ago, back in the Hendrix days, right? It doesn't surprise me at all as to how well you have done as you have a wonderful talent!
Most of the listening public has no idea who wrote their favorite songs. If you say the names Randy Goodrum, Jim Vallance, Will Jennings, Dean Pitchford, etc. most people have no idea who these people are.
next to Randy is Waylon Holyfield - an Arkansas writer of some renown (it's his show on AETN) and next to him is Shawn Camp - (great Arkansas musician and writer - toured with Guy Clark and Verlon Thompson for several years) . I don't remember who the 3rd guy is.

Those creative voicing 💙💙💙 Always loved that song with all my heart and soul since.
Beautiful song, performance, and story ❤️
What a comfortable voice timbre ! He sounds like a good old british hifi system.
raw and classic the original!
So sweet. Go Nashvillel Interesting story...shared on FB. TY for uploading your program.

Is that Michael Johnson in the background?

Saw him at Ft. Sam right before he left to get rich...he played jazz piano very well and, of course he became a "Big Timer" (as Luvine likes to say.)
This is great. Steve Perry's secret weapon.
How i wish he could sing LOVE once more rather than singing other artist hits
He kind of sings like Paul Simon! Unfortunately, PS writes by himself.
Goodrum, champlin, graydon, foster , page, kipner, toto, scaggs, tagg, ritenour , dupree, mcdonald, pack etc
