The most influential harpist in the blues history was born on this day 107 years ago in Madison County, Tennessee, US. Remembering John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson who was born on this day back on 1914. The blues harmonica simply wouldn't be the same without this man Legacy. Little Walter, James Cotton, Junior Wells, just to named some harmonica giants, but any bluesman that play the harmonica ... they are all under this man big shadow! His Legacy can't ever die. Thank you Sonny Boy !
This isn't John Lee Williamson, this is Rice Miller. Him being "the most influential harpist" is thanks to identity theft, and you fell for it. The original Sonny Boy was both a better player and a better man.
@@donjose6674ditto!! Aleck Miller taking John's nickname and becoming a "II" seems wrong. But hey, very cool Marion Jacobs only harp player in Rock n Roll hall of fame 👍
yes this isn't the original sonny boy, but you are indeed on crack if you think he isn't any better. this guy wipes the floor with the original. not discrediting the original, because he for sure is someone to be reckoned with and may have been a better person. it is foolish to say that sonny boy II is not as good as sonny boy I. perhaps if sonny boy I wasn't murdered the script may be different. @@donjose6674
Heard many stories of sonny boy... but 1 I remember best is when sonny boy met the band! They were all having a great time in Arkansas until the police showed up and ask the band what are you doing play this these black fellas? Levon tried to calm the situation by saying these are Canadians fellas and my uncle is in
@@MitchClement-il6iq Robbie Robertson tells that story very well, in graphic detail on CZcams, Bluesmobile. It’s an amazing story you will never forget if you love Sonny Boy.
Scott M Great to hear man, "Boy" will teach you well :D Always test new waters, and remember - Skill and Technique is nothing with out Rhythm and Sole.
xxFeedYerHeadxx Hey thanks its difficult for me and have some serious struggles getting it right. I think Rhythm is key to quality for sure , soul ? I have that. Now how do you play jingle bells? Ha ha thanks man for the encouragement

Outro grande violeiro. Somos todos homens solitários.
He's the blues, but he was the main influence on the biggest rock band in history; Led Zeppelin. That alone should get him in, let alone his incredible talent
Well, if we're all honest here, the R&R Hall of Fame is a joke. Let's all just appreciate his impact on not only us, but also the world. He brung people together, that's how music works. It's a universal language that people seem to forget nowadays. Sonny demonstrates the TRUE meaning of what music is supposed to be. For actual musicians, they don't really care about the money.
There are no rules to the blues. My Daddy and Uncles played blues, harp and guitar, but couldn't read music. I'm 66, and play harp and guitar. ..but not by the rules. ... can't read music.
Brilliant! What brought me here was a poster of Jimi Hendrix that I have up in my room and in this poster, Hendrix is carrying a Sonny Boy Williamson album with him as he is getting off a plane. I didn't hesitate to look it up and I am very pleased with the outcome.
Awesome performance Sonny Boy!!! Long live the blues... Love your style of blowing the blues!!! Velva Hot Lips on Harmonica been blowin' the harp for 46 years & absolutely love it!!! From Santa Fe, N.M. 12-10-16
The MAN has sooo much soul !! All our music , whether it's country or rock came from these kind of men and women like Big Mama Thorton , ect. , and I love it !!

He fought with the harmonica too and always won. He could draw sounds out from this little instrument like we have never heard.
good point....I really dig the simple guitar line accompanying him
Antonio Bonifati wow that was well put man and deep!!😯
In 1929 he taught Howlin' Wolf the play the harmonica. Then in the late forties he taught Little Junior Parker.
This is what inspired the blues moaning in pain
no words can describe this man's relationship with the blues

No technical college major musician produce music like this. This is music, it's not science. You have it or you don't.
***** I love the Blues so much I started playing the harp a few months ago. But "Boy" is teaching me how to make love to it. I am way happy.

This man bleeds blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Without the blues there is no Country music, no R&B, no Motown, no Metal. Sonny boy showed us the way. AI says Little Walter. I know who the GOAT is.
I would absolutely have loved to have seen this man live
Talent and personality combined with a heavenly voice. A true legend. Loved for ever never to die.
Just can't find enough of his work. Such blues and the harmonica just sings with him.
This is the only genre that resonates with your soul on a deep frequency. I love it.
Indeed
I am a lonely man
And i don't like being by myself
I'm a lonely man
And i don't like being by myself
If you can't be with me, baby
I'm gonna find myself somebody else
I am so disgusted
I just can't sleep at night
So disgusted baby
That i just can't sleep at night
I got to eat my breakfast in the morning
And my teeth and tongue begin to fight
You don't have to talk
I will talk for you
You don't have to walk that good
Y'know i'll take time
And walk with you
Let me hold your hand
Little girl i'll make you understand
You know you ain't nothing but a little kind
But you forgot i was your man
+Ana Maria Jessies Hey. Deal with it.

Sonny Boy Williamson with a small harmonica wrote a great blues chapter.

+bernhardtsen74 The man was amazing, I have never heard anyone better.
+Gunnerfan Well in my opinion Big walter was far better
ikr apparently this is music you can call me on my cellphone and werk werk werk werk werk
Harmonica sounds like a muted trumpet nearly. Beautiful.
What can I say...........this is the Blues. Love it..
Can someone please explain to us why Sonny Boy Williamson is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
+Margeir Ólafsson No one can because there simply isn't a valid reason for that.
+Margeir Ólafsson Because he plays the blues, not R&R

You enjoy the, "Blues," that much more ...if you have lived them ...yes sir
I appreciate how he's not In it for the fame, but simply for the message. Much Love! Love Hurts.
This is incredible ❤
Pure Blues....True Blues....thank you God for having guys like this play music
A single harmonic is better than a whole orchestra of trumpets and saxs or anything else, man!!
Grande mestre do blues, extraordinário na harmônica
Love the way he finished up & casually collected his stuff to saunter off.....
This makes me cry and confort me at the same time.
