One reaction from you is worth more than many other reactors put together! You highlight multiple details that are so interesting, easy to understand and add so much enjoyment to each Pentatonix song. Thank you so much. So grateful you're back, and very glad your health has improved. Kyle rules!

She was an All State Alto 2 when she was in high school. I kind of wondered if she got same kind of "we want women to sing high notes" impression I did. Either way, her lower register sounds incredible, and her range is really impressive. I'm a contralto, and if I try to sing high notes, my dogs run away. 🙂

If you like this video style, you need to react to their original in this vein, although it is a Scott lead. It's called "Sing."
I agree with "Can't Hold Us". Another phenomenal cover is "Problem".
The most bass-forward song imo is "Someone I Used To Know."
One of Avi's lowest notes is in their 2nd Grammy winner, their cover of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Yes, they can do it. And no, they don't add lyrics. It is beyond incredible.

Unlike other reactors who just: "aw that was good," when you give your thoughts they're interesting to listen to, especially your talking about how Mitch and Scott were singing together on this one. Another vote for “Disney Love Medley” by Voctave featuring Kirstie and her then fiancee, Jeremy Michael Lewis (they later broke up). Kirstie sings the lead and is the perfect Disney princess. And Voctave is a truly amazing group. They have a soprano who is the female equivalent of Mitch. She hits some other worldly high notes. Everything about that performance is world class. The video is on the Voctave CZcams channel.

I've always thought Pentatonix' secret weapon, other than their power (individually & together) and their blend, is the fact that they all have amazing ranges. They can place voices wherever they are needed because all their ranges span many octaves, so they never leave sonic "holes" in the arrangements.

When you are ready to get into their newer material, the best music video to introduce their new bass Matt is their Christmas cover of You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch. Matt has the lead on this one, and it's a perfect performance from him. Matt brings his own unique range and personality to PTX, and it will be fun to see him develop even further with the group.

  • @whoami.24601
    @whoami.24601 Před 4 lety

Kirstie's lower register is very good! I think she's technically a mezzo. She obviously sings the higher registers very well too but she often switches back and forth with Mitch on who does the higher register. It's always a challenge when my choir has done some Pentatonix arrangements and while Mitch's part is set as the alto, it'll often go higher than Kirstie's and then suddenly the choir sopranos have to start playing at being altos. So she often takes a more 1st alto/2nd soprano range when Mitch does the higher parts. I think think that's a big part of their strength. They all have very big ranges, which means they're extremely versatile in how they arrange songs. If Mitch goes high, Kirstie can do a more 1st alto/2nd soprano range, but Mitch can also actually go quite low. Scott has a massive range and often covers the bass if the bass is singing solo. Avi, when he was still there, has a huge range as well. Matt, too, though, is versatile. (And I mean, Kevin is Kevin. Beatboxing, cello-playing, great falsetto.) It gives them so many alternatives for arrangement and they'll often swap seamlessly with each other in a way that is truly absurdly impressive. There's a recent song (Can You Feel The Love Tonight, I think it was) where you could barely even tell Mitch swapped out Kirstie for the melody, they matched each other THAT well.

One of my favorite of their covers, period! Filmed in Tokyo while they were on their Austral-Asia tour in 2014. And yes, Kirstin had done some vocal training after The Sing-Off that helped her maintain her voice on tour, as well as extended her lower range. If you listen to the Sing-Off performance that PTX did with another group (Urban Method) and Flo Rida of “Good Feeling,” you can tell she is struggling to get the lowest notes, notes she has no problem with here.

Avi's bass - the way he hits parts of it with a hard edge on the top of the note - it's an added level of percussion to Kevin's beat track. Kirstie's range and all of their ability to quickly shift to "filler" notes in the midst of their vocals to fill in the extra 4 to 5 voices that they SHOULD be missing, but aren't. Nice catch on the bass "slide" - something that took me a few listens to catch with all that is going on. I truly do enjoy Matt now that he is with PTX, but Kevin and Avi just had a chemistry between them that might never be matched again. While they do amazing things together also, time will tell if Matt and Kevin get it too.

I know this video is probably too old for you to see any comments, but you got a good feel for Kirstie's low vocals in this video but she can also do whistle notes!

So glad you’re feeling better, brother. We were worried about you

You should check out the "Spaulding Sessions" with Pentatonix and Scott Hosting solo. You won't regret it.

To give you more videos to watch: (as if you didn't have enough good ones from Pentatonix alone)
-All from Superfruit Channel. That's just Mitch and Scott with sometimes Kirstie
-Disney Love Medley. It's Kirstie with another awesome acapella group Voctave
-Mary did you know from Voctave: so you can make a comparison to Pentatonix version
-Change on the Rise: Avi Kaplan solo
Hope you find time to react to them
