Great reaction! Not the best bond movie for sure, but the next one, Skyfall, is a masterpiece! Looking forward to your reaction.

Revisiting Casino, remember Vesper's necklace, the love knot (from her boyfriend), our early clue to her divided loyalties.

fact: Gal Gadot auditioned for this movie, but lost to Olga, but her headshot was sent across the pond to LA and it got the attention of the makers of Fast and Furious 4 and she got cast as Gisele

For some more David Harbour-ism, may I suggest a great movie that's always been overlooked by reaction channels: "End of Watch (2012)" starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena, with Harbour as a supporting character.

I always liked the name of the movie. Just a quantum, a QUANTUM of solace. Poetic and poetecisn (if that's a word) at it's peak.

Because it's Fleming's short story name

Olga is also Taskmaster in Black Widow (with David Habour), so this might have been the first time she and David Harbour worked together.

Great reaction to a very very underrated movie. Pulling off a Bond movie of this quality during a writer strike is pretty impressive. I envy you both, watching Skyfall for the first time... My favorite Bond :)

It already had its work cut out for it having to follow the phenomenal lightning-in-a-bottle that was Casino Royale, I still love this big budget epilogue.
Some parts were written by Canadian Neal Purvis, the ending with the Canadian agent's quiet "thank you" got a huge laugh in theatres (as well as with some critics). 😂😂😂

The 'additional voices' ought to be the men talking during the opera, if I'm remembering correctly.

Nope, Cuarón and Del Toro were voicing the pilots of the attack plane and helicopter gunship during the plane chase (can be heard on radio chatter).

I have watched Casino Royale a lot over the last few months and as well as being thoroughly entertaining it has also done something I didn't think was possible... It has made me realise that Quantum of Solace is in fact quite a good film. Sure, it has some pretty significant weaknesses such as the frantic editing during action sequences and muddled plotting but I'm often inclined to forgive execution issues when the intentions are good and there are hints of brilliance peeking through. There is some really great stuff here like the use of Camille as a reflection of Bond and his journey and battle with grief and revenge.
As I mentioned previously the plot is muddled and unfolds at breakneck speed which on a first watch can really distract you from the great work being done under the surface. Until my most recent watch of Quantum of Solace I, like everyone in the film thought James was out of control and stacking up bodies on a quest for revenge when in actuality he is doing the total opposite. He has buried himself in his work in an attempt to hide from his grief. All of the kills he carries out are either for good unemotional reasons or unavoidable, and most importantly he does not take revenge by killing Dominic Greene or Yusef Kabira who were the 2 people actually complicit in Vesper's death.
It does have significant flaws and it may actually work better as an extended coda to Casino Royale but Quantum of Solace is a better film than it is given credit for, that tells a story about revenge and whether there is any solace to be found in not pursuing it.

I'll take this over the boring droll of a watch that is 'Spectre' any day of the week in the Daniel Craig era.

Between a strike and a movie trying to both make Jason Bourne look like a 60s action movie, complete with odd camera placement, some scenes are jarring to watch. I like a grittier Bond, but we got that with Casino Royale. I saw a much better Marc Forster directed movie recently starring Tom Hanks, A Man Called Otto, but this is all over the place. Obviously it doesn’t make sense for Bond to be jumping into bed with women in this movie. He’s grieving. But the script rarely reflects that and the mistreatment of Mathis, a strong character from the previous film is pretty unforgivable. It just feels like there’s no direction to the script and in movies like this, killing off a character is usually the go to in order to keep the story moving. I wanted to really like this, and a revenge film was certainly warranted here, but I understand Michael G. Wilson basically wrote the script with Daniel Craig. I wouldn’t advise doing something like that again. Get a ghostwriter next time. Granted, with a franchise like this, they should have ready made scripts as backups on the go for situations like this. These movies make a lot of money. You’d think they’d be prepared.

Licence to kill is effectively the follow up to OHMSS re. Bond dealing with the trauma of losing Tracy. This one isn't great. I hate the Bourne style hyper editing of the action and the script wasn't finished due to the writer's strike at the time so Craig and the director were pretty much making stuff up as they went. Skyfall is next and is far better. Pure class from top to bottom.

Craig's poorest & most confused script sadly. But the plane chase is epic so redeems it somewhat but it's good to get it out of the way so you can enjoy 'Skyfall'.

Almost forgot to comment this week! Can't miss that, now can I? :-) Glad you guys enjoyed this one... IMHO, this is the weakest of DC's Bond films... mostly due to some confusing villian writing (Likely due to the writer's strike at the time)- but still not the worst movie ever. Next week tho.... cannot WAIT!!!

This movie was affected by the 2007-2008 WGA STRIKE, which is one of the reasons why it's the worst James Bond film in the Daniel Craig Franchise.

Daniel Craig Bond movies are so boring. There's no espionage. Everything is about him. Like all the villains have a vendetta against him personally.

Agreed, Casino Royale is the only one that I would call a good movie. Skyfall is massively overrated. They need to bring back some fun when they reboot it again and for the love of god, standalone adventures!

This one is kinda underrated. It's so well shot. It does, however, feature the worst Bond song of all time.
