I used this years ago on a 1998 Chevy full size pickup that had a slight fluid leak in the intake manifold (a common problem, where it would let coolant leak through to the crankcase). I was skeptical, but one jar of Bars leaks and amazingly, it stopped the leak and I drove that truck for years after that. The leak never came back, never had any trouble with the engine.

In the old days ( like 1995) Bar's Stop Leak was still a tube of powder the size of a roll of quarters. I had a small wreck in my VW Rabbit Pickup and the plastic radiator was leaking. I installed Bars and drove for a couple more years, changed coolant and leak returned. Another tube of Bars and it was still holding when sold a few years later. I love this stuff!

Let me tell you all something, I have a Big Rig 2016 Prostar International and Somewhere by the water pump area not sure exactly where at 1st the leak wasn't bad than a month later up until yesterday the leak was kind of bad having to add a whole bottle A Day. Went to Walmart brought 2 50/50 coolants plus one of them Bar's stop leak, engine wasn't hot, removed the cap poured the whole leak stop in, topped it off with coolant and hauled ass! Next morning (today) I said let me add some 50/50, NOPE didn't need it, Got Damnit that shit work. Don't see any dripping like before either. I don't even remember shaking it up like dude did in the video. I shook it up a little. I recommend this product. Everyone's case is different, but I know I have to get it to the shop asap. (UPDATE) A month plus later, & still no leaks! What i do notice probably because I didn't shake the bottle thoroughly is my Reservoir needs cleaning. A film has risen to the topish part of it. I'm going to let some Coolant out remove the Reservoir Myself it's Easy, high pressure clean it, re flush it with water, add Coolant clean dirty engine & boogie on down the Road to my Pick-up.

It was leaking for the first 20 while idling but after the 20 mintuie drive it had stopped dripping completely. Checked the coolant level after I turned off the engine and let it cool off for a while and it was full.

Do not pack all the pellets at once in the radiator. Add some and throw the coolant on top and than add some again and add coolant on top again. That’s how it’s properly done.

I've owned many cars and faced coolant system issues with most of them. When my 2004 Sienna minivan started leaking from the radiator, I decided to give Bars Leaks radiator sealant a shot, pouring about half the bottle into the coolant reservoir. After taking it for a test spin around the neighborhood, the van began to overheat, prompting a quick return home to investigate. Once the engine had cooled, I discovered a clump of the sealant, a gel-like substance filled with tiny metal particles, right under the coolant system cap (not the coolant reservoir cap). I was able to easily remove it with my fingers. After this minor hiccup, the vehicle no longer overheated, and, impressively, the radiator leak was gone. The experience left me contemplating whether a more thorough shaking of the bottle or perhaps straining the product could prevent such issues. Would I consider using it again in the future? It's a possibility, given the success I ultimately experienced.

Can't wait to use this & forget my problem.
BTW.. I started out asking $2200. The gasket blew, & I dropped it to $900, he offered $800 & she was sold!!

I've patched it with JB Weld and just need to be able to drive the vehicle for a week or so until I can replace the radiator which I have ordered. But afraid of course the patch won't hold.
Why can't I use this as a stop gap just to keep my engine from overheating? I got on a Jeep forum and 20 people all told me it was garbage and would 'gum up' my radiator and ruin the heater core, etc. I just don't see how a product could be sold in stores all over the country if its this destructive

It fixes the leak by the tiny particles moving into the leak and partially plugging. The rest happens by the coolant coming through and drying up by being exposed to air and creating a slight bond with the additive. So, it's technically the coolant which plugs the leak.

Can I put it in the radiator?

    • @garyoldham4449
      @garyoldham4449 Před 3 lety

Yes. Put it in the radiator.
Don't open the radiator when it's hot!
Some cars don't have a radiator cap so in those cars you put it in the reservoir. The reservoir becomes pressurized and pushes it into the radiator. It's a miracle.
I always worry about putting things in the reservoir. Like they might go to the wrong place! How would I know?
Or just sit there forever. I always wonder did it ever make it to the radiator? What if some clever mechanic switched my hoses around and now it's going to the wrong place?
I always feel like I have to track down the hose and make sure that it's going from the reservoir tank over to the radiator. Otherwise how will I know? Maybe it goes to the transmission or the gas tank.
      Or on the ground.
Maybe it goes to the glove box....I better track the hose down and make sure it's going to the radiator!
Never touch a hot radiator. Never put your fingers in the radiator fan.
It says coolant reservoir.... but why doesn't it just say "radiator"? It doesn't look like a radiator?
      Read the owner's manual.
If you can't find it, search for it online "make model and year owners manual"
All mechanics are honest. You can trust them. Just kidding!
