I watched about 10 rubbish videos until this one where someone actually explains how the fuse system works, rather than just telling you to flick switchs up and down! Very informative and clear and helped me to solve and understand the problem.

Thank you for this, helped me help my wife while I was at work. She rang me saying the downstairs electric wasn’t working, but upstairs was ok. I knew about the switches that might have tripped so I told her to check that all the switches were on. Then I got her to send me a picture so I could check myself. I could see one of the RCD. switches was red and in the down position, I used this video to check if the switches should both be on and what would happen if it kept tripping off. Thank you very much 👍🏻

  • @arakoolakardart-akadebbiewatts

Great video.... simply explained to someone that hasn’t got a clue. 😊I was confused why some not all sockets and everything in my kitchen had lost power and the fuse box socket black switches were all still in the on position and not tripped. Then I discovered (thanks to your video) the green RCD switch... and how to trace the cause. Unplugged everything... Blasted iron, being used upstairs, now in the bin. All power and other appliances now back working. Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻

I had a spurious tripping RCD. The cause, a newly fitted smart meter too close to the consumer unit. When the smart meter ramped up the signal to send off the meter readings it was enough RF interference to trip the RCD. Temp fix with a RF shield (tin foil on cardboard) proved it. Fitted a newer RCD and no further issues. Bloody pain!

I had the same issue today

I had waited all day for British Gas who never turned up .I rang them up and told them what Id done but am still getting them to check what caused the issue

I had all sockets off in my flat I reset all switches and the general switch didn’t engage so I turned every socket off and switch back the general switch and then turned every socket on one by one.
it turned out that the kittle was the problem
No need for electrician or having no power in the sockets
    Thanks again

Great video and very informative - one thing though - we found our RCDs kept tripping off due to ants!! Couldn't believe that ants were attracted to the electrical box - unsure whether it was due to a dead bird or something but once we got rid of the ant problem - the RCDs were fine.
