The song's story is about a lighthouse guard who had a one night affair with a married woman. Afterwards her husband surprise attacked him and knocked him out. While unconcious, the light of the lighthouse had gone out and ship called White Pearl had sunk, killing all its crew. He feels guilty and lost all his honor and drowns himself in the ocean.
Wasn't she on that ship? "She found a sails for the following night". I always thought she was on White Pearl among the other passengers.
@@MrSpaceAngel Yeah the woman was one of the passengers. And Tony wrote a Part 2 that can be interpreted in a couple of different ways.
If you don't have the lyrics to this song, you are missing a large part of the experience. The story Tony weaves is what makes this song amazing. I'd also suggest listening to the album version with the lyrics.

Ahh I'm glad you're checking out Sonata Arctica! One of my favourite bands as a teen, they're very good live (Tony is a wonderful singer as you heard) but sadly most of their live recordings are mixed...not so great haha. I'd recommend checking out their studio recordings or music videos, this song in particular is quite a difficult one to start with as it's very different from the power metal they're known for, so my personal picks would be 8th Commandment, Kingdom for a Heart, Fullmoon, or even Shy, if you're interested in a ballad!

Sonata Arctica's singer Tony Kakko has also been a guest singer on Nightwish and Epica. Together with Marco Hietala he is one of the four Northern Kings. Tony, who is also good friends with Tuomas Holopainen (the mastermind of Nightwish), plays keyboard like this and writes almost all of the band's songs himself. The songs often have a lot of depth, like this song.

Not the clearest recording vocal wise ..listen to the album version,, it is a great song!!Others to look out for from them are Last Drop Falls, Tallulah, The End of the Chapter(a dark one from the Caleb saga spanning many albums), Fullmoon..SA are more power metal than symphonic.
Sonata Arctica "Tallulah" (Live YLE TV) is one version. A ballad. Perfomed for a couple, (a TV format).
For Fridays, I again recommend Kamelot.
Many consider Kamelot with the legendary Roy Khan, on lead vocals, to be the male equivalent of Nightwish with Floor Jansen on lead vocals.
Most of their songs are outstanding, but, for the first listen, I would recommend the 3 part:

Is this a vid that was blocked for a long time - you talk about summer, allergies, and hot whether ? Anyway, great to hear Sonata Arctica ;o) Tony kakko has a great voice, but this might not be the best song to start with. I don't know the band, so I cannot really say.

There is a video of the same performance with lyrics. As far as I have understood it is a tragic story about a lighthouse keeper who falls a sleep, the light goes out with awful consequences.
