2 years old - really - they look about 2 days old. The sole’s are not worn down at all. That’s either a testament to their quality or you must wear them very sparingly.

I own a pair of those same boots, same color, plus many Viberg, Whites and Alden iterations. Here is what I totally agree with: break in never created a hot spot or any problem whatsoever; the cork footbed shaped to my feet quicker than the other boots I’ve mentioned; and, the toe box is generous. These stow boots became my rain boots and they never show any evidence that I’d gotten them wet. But I live in California and we regularly experience drought conditions, so I don’t wear them as often as my other boots. But here’s the thing. When I wear them, they regularly get more compliments than most any other boots I wear. I think it’s time for me to graduate them into my daily rotation.

For refinishing the edges, use brown saphir pommadier cream. They will recolour as well as condition the leather sole bits.

I own three pairs of trickers all three pairs are the Stow boots. Absolutely phenomenal. I also am a cobbler part time and have worked on many pairs of trickers. No complaints about them period. The pinnacle of quality English footwear. I highly recommend them. Great work Devon keep it up!!!!!!

Beautiful boots. Delighted that you are enjoying them. I have a pair of Maltons in the same colour and two pairs of stows. A point worth mentioning is that the Maltons are made on a wider last to the Stow and the fit is noticeably wider. I bought these a half size smaller than my normal size on Trickers advice. Interestingly, despite being a half size smaller than the Stows, the break in was more comfortable

The decoration near the heel, what would be the rand on a 270 degree welt shoe is made with a fudging wheel. Recently got a used pair of Tricker's Bourtons in antique marron.... hell of a pair of shoes, they are on double leather soles, I resole my own shoes then get a cobbler to (just) do the outsole stitches, I think I might send these in to Tricker's though as they re line them as well as resole them for 200 quid.... I think they may be a touch too heavy duty for me to do at home. Considering they are less pricey than some of the other "English" makers, they are a bargain.... if you want country boots/shoes.
    thanks for the video

I've spent a considerable number of hours looking into broguing, and in particular the notion that it evolved from actual holes in shoes that let water out. I do not think this is so. In fact, the only such claims I can find are modern blogs and videos. It seems an apocryphal tale that got accepted as true, but which has no good source, nor is practical in any case.
Brogue in shoes would simply let water in. And along with that, it would let mud and dirt in as well, which would be difficult to remove.
The purpose of brogue is likely cosmetic and decorative from the start. Cosmetic in that a pattern of such decorative faux holes masks scratches and blemishes on the shoes. There's good reason for them as decoration, and no sound reason for them to have ever been actual holes.

  • @nicolasguitar7953

Is it calf leather ? I'm not sure to undersand.
    Because Tricker's says this :
"C-shade requires a high level substance (the thickness) only achievable from the hides of heavier and older animals - our C-shade shoes and boots are made using sustainably sourced Bull’s hides. The result is a really robust leather that wears in beautifully and can really stand the test of time."

I own a couple of Trickers Burford and a pair of Grassmere boots. These are on the "4497s" last in standard "5" width and it should be noted that this is a genuine standard width despite the boots looking quite wide. This suits my feet but the wide welts on these boots do make them look wider than they actually are.
Regarding the cost, though I agree the calf leathers are very nice on these boots, at full price something like Crockett & Jones is more refined and overall better value and I'd put my Coniston and Eskdale2 boots above the Trickers. The Trickers though can be obtained at significant discounts of 30% to 40% in the sales, something which can't really be done with C&J usually. And of course they are a different aesthetic to the C&J.

Only down side is I think you could have got your message over in half the time. Lots of repetition in my perception.
Lovely boots. I bought a pair of Stow ( mainly because i wanted the acorn colour) and find them too narrow. I suspect the Malton is a better option.
    Thanks again.

Stunning boots... I'm not into broguing on boots, I'd look for something very similar, but plain other than a cap over the toe puff. I'm sure they'll only get better and outlast us... if creamed now and then.

They are basically the same boot. The main difference is that the Malton comes in the colour called C shade, it is usually on a commando sole and has a 6 fitting (wide fitting).

    • @DevonReviewer

The range of leathers are wider in the stow (Malton is only the c shade, as far as I know) also the Stow has different sole options… I would personally pick Malton every time!
