I spotted the thickness. The sound is another clue. But the most obvious sign they are fake is that they are being sold on Alibaba
Correct. It's obvious to us because we know and hopefully anyone else looking there would realise they're clearly too cheap at literally pennies each.
If a nefarious seller bought them and then listed at a typical bullion price with some poorly lit photos it could happen.
Hopefully it saves someone from making a mistake and generally the more vigilant we all are the better 👌🏽
7 is the imposter looks diffrent n oddball
Good call
Definitely the thick one
😂
Big like my friend! Stunning coins and thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for watching
Number 7
St George looks off and it looks thicker
🧐
I love Sovereigns but I am not so familiar with all the details. I am more familiar with Ducats and Crowns. 🤷🏻♂️
I think you'd spot the odd one out in person easily enough. On the video or pictures it isn't always so obvious
The rim of the fake coins gave it away at first sight for me.
Good eyes 👍🏽 Hopefully it helps a beginner or two
@@SovereignSaurus Thank you. I'm no expert myself, but it was clear that the die to make the fakes had not pressed the coin to that depth characteristic of a genuine Sovereign. Then it was clear on seeing how much thicker the fakes are as well. The more information about what to look out for, the merrier!
I wonder if it's gold plated brass
Have you tried using a magnet?
I'll cut one in half and have a look soon 🧐 also I might get it on the xrf and see what it is specifically
I picked, 3, 7, 9.. but I don't think you said which numbers were fake. I have only been exposed to, and own one sovereign. A 1988 proof quintuple sov. I hope it's real.. smiling.
Only 1 of these in the initial 10 was fake 🧐
Not familiar with that coinage but to me number 7 looked thicker and sounded different than the rest
Exactly. When comparing to a bunch of genuine ones it does stand out. A new buyer might not have a baseline of what real gold sovereigns are like though
Thickness and the color are different I believe they're made out of brass.
Yes. You could get gold fakes which might actually have the correct gold in but have been altered to try and fool a collector with a key date for eg.

Good call 👌🏽
Also the strikes are also very flat the deatails aint crisp they just wrong .
🧐👌🏽
@@SovereignSaurus great content bro 👍
Where on earth did you get all those fakes from?
They definitely didn't come from Llantrisant
In my 25th year being around gold as a collector, stacker, whatever you want to call it, and those are the fakiest fakes I've EVER seen. Who made them, Ray Charles Jewellery Inc?
I've seen chocolate coins look more passable 😂
@@SovereignSaurus Just a thought..have you tried unwrapping them? Potentially delicious treats await! 😁
@@bigbill74scots at least choc coins give some benefits

Big thanks
