I'd say Sam definitely has got the intended meaning of slow ride. "Slow riding woman"..."Slow down, _'go down!!!'_ ..."Got to get your lovin' one more time"...😊 Yeah, lol. Although I have to admit, back in high school in the 70s when I didn't pay much attention to lyrics all that much, I was so into the groove that the message didn't really catch my attention enough to even stop and think about it. I was just too into the guitar riff and the beat as I was driving along in the car jamming to it and getting lost in the vibe.

I think you maybe did, it just didn't seem out of the ordinary. There was a ton of sexual innuendo in a lot of songs. Hell, this was a period where The Tubes appeared with Cher & Dolly Parton for a rendition of Mondo Bondage.

    • @johnbruin5547
      @johnbruin5547 Před měsícem

@@chrisjamieson3452 Well, no I actually didn't, lol.. I should know, I was there,...in my own head....so, I remember. And like I said, at that time I really didn't listen closely to lyrics of songs. (yeah, I know but some people are like that when they are teenagers, so please keep any insults to yourself, Thank you.). But honestly, pretty much all I would be able to even sing of that song for you back then would have been the first part of the chorus, "Slow Ride, Take It Easy" That's it. And that line meant nothing in particular to me other than it was just how the hook line of the chorus went and I didn't give it much more thought than that. So, naturally any cleverness or innuendo of lyrics flew right by me. I was just into driving along in my car, clearing my mind, enjoying the moment and jammin' to the tunes. When a banger song like that would come on the radio, I just would turn it up and groove to the beat and the raunchy distorted guitars.

Had small outpatient surgery done in 23 and was wheeled into surgery suite where the nurses had some music on . I said can ya make an old man happy and play a song for me. The nurses, all in their 20's , said sure. So I requested Foghat "Slow Ride" . As they are working as the song is playing, I made sure to sign along and emphasize certain lyrics and one of the nurses goes"Wow, this is a really dirty song". I was how do you think we made all of you during the 70's and 80's. The surgeon , 40 year old women, had to stop my hand surgery as she started laughing.

Three of the four members are from Savoy Brown and one from Black Cat Bones to form Foghat. Both Previous bands were based on blues vibes. This song came out in 1975 and the title track of the album "Fool For The City" is another classic song. Their other classic songs are "Drivin' Wheel", "Stone Blue", "I Just Want To Make Love To You", "Home In My Hand", "Sweet Home Chicago" and etc. Sadly, Lonesome Dave and Rod Price (Slide guitar wizard along with Duane Allman, Lowell George and Ry Cooder) passes away in early millennium year. RIP

Saw em a few times in the 70s ( I believe ) in Atlanta. The best ? We were sitting in a little bar. 3 piece band playing and we had tickets for Foghat the next night. In walk these guys, we had no idea what the band looked like , but they talked with the band playing. They gave up the stage and this is the song they played. Think they did 3 songs and split before things got too crazy because this was pre-smart phone and there were probably 50 people who managed to get there before they left. Since it was a new song we had no idea until they played it at the Omni , I think anyway, at the show. Fun show... great music.

The opening riff was the riff that made me want to play guitar (which took a few years to actually start). But as a ten year old just awakening to music in a deeper way, that muscular riff made me scrunch my face, grit my teeth and rustle up as muscularity as a ten year old could. The next few years were the best rock & roll years and I got to be a young teenage boy growing up with it.

I first saw and heard them on 'Don Kirschner's Rock Concert' in the early mid-70s. Loved "Lonesome" Dave Peverett's crunching rhythm guitar and impassioned vocals, Roger Price's slide playing and the rock solid bass and drums. Can't say I recall the very funky popping bass, but it strikes me in retrospect as being very forward looking, slightly ahead of the curve, if you will. I gave this album to one of my siblings for Christmas so I'd have it on hand to listen to whenever I wanted. Selfish? Okay. Shoot me.

Sam is spot on! Speed it up, slow it down, speed it up, slow it down, then speed it up as fast as you can until....you're left feeling satisfied. This song can be a little dangerous to drive to with the volume blasting. Keep an eye on the speedometer towards the end.

First band I ever saw at a concert (opening), the second was Queen (headliners). The live album is one of my 5 favorite of the genre, as I prefer studio albums for listening. Concerts are for partying.
So much of rock was about sex and how cleverly they could express it. Seriously! Watching people dance to this is always entertaining near the end.

Good rock song and some R & B groove for some love making. Gotta remember censorship was huge in that time so Phil, you are what Foghat wanted the censors to think in my opinion but all the fans knew what Sam knows and that is what this song is really about.

This was the 70s, censorship wasn't that big at all. You couldn't swear on the radio, but there was no limit to what you could talk about or sing about. Everything was out in the open then. You could say anything you want on the records, they'd just bleep swearing for broadcast. Even that was very close to not being censored as the Supreme Court almost voted to say the FCC couldn't censor anything. If that had been the case then tv and radio would have had no censorship at all going back to the early 70s. How different would things have been if that had happened.

Risqué girl from high school in 1st year of college won the "Slow Ride" contest on a mechanical bull at a bar in 1981.
About 8 of us lived in the same off-campus apartment complex.
2 weeks after her "win", 5 of my friends had notices from the Health Department on their doors ...it was called VD back then. Thankfully she wasn't even close to my type...we partied, but she was too skanky for hanky panky.
...seemed like the temperature went up on the right hand side of the screen.

I loved the ending, it was heavy, fast and the production was crystal clear and in your face (sorry).

Fun reaction (I really did think it was about driving a car slow)

Oh, and the last portion when the music is faster and faster and the guitar goes higher and higher to a “climax”? That was a musical interpretation of an orgasm. It’s not about taking life more slowly or music it’s about sex. I’m old now, but I haven’t forgotten its meaning.
