Thank you all for watching! I hope no one was killed by Ashida Kim for watching this. This video is a humble tribute to ThePinkMan who used to make great fake martial arts videos but deleted his channel a few years ago. Just to point out, at one point i say "Frank Shamrock" instead of "Ken Shamrock" when discussing UFC 1. These kind of mistakes suck but unfortunately this was a real tough script to write, much harder than the others just because of the sheer amount of research it takes doing a video on 4 different people, and as such i let a screw up like that slip by, just out of sheer mental burnout

We had a football team but they kinda sucked and had for years, so there wasn't a ton of prestige to being a jock. And a lot of the other club activities were driven by teachers who had much stronger personalities than the sports department heads which kin
Our AV teacher was a real personality and our art teacher was a retired aerospace engineer who went Bob Ross to have something to do.

When I was in primary watching anime made me a pariah - I wasn't even open about it, I just enjoyed the shit - by college half the people around me were bigger fucking weebs than I ever was. KPOP ruined my ability to sympathize with fellow "nihongophiles", it's about then that I realized it was just another form of trend-chasing dogshit and that 80% of the people doing it were chicks with cardboard personalities and a desperate need to differentiate themselves by adopting a no-effort hobby marginally outside the mainstream.
I have a low, abiding contempt for anyone that adopts a genre, a hobby, an aesthetic just because it's a socially acceptable replacement for a personality. More so as this has actively shat up the majority of my hobbies.

My favorite Steven Seagal story is that there was once a party at Stallone's house sometime in the 90s. Steven was there and spent the whole night talking shit about Jean Claude Van Damme (who was also at the party).
At some point, word came to Van Damme about Steven so he went to confront him and told him in so many words that if he had something to say they could go outside and see who was the better martial artist.

I've had some training in ninjutsu from a friend's uncle (who has been passing down his teachings, as his father did, whole family has done it for generations). I didn't learn much, because, for one, I'm not that good, and two, I'm just some random outsider so they won't show me much anyway (I'd have to move to Japan and dedicate myself to the training, and I'm not doing that).
But yeah, I remember getting explained how there were countless people out there who would claim to offer teaching ninjutsu and lethal arts... and the most basic thing to remember is, if they charge money, it's 100% bullshit. lol
There is no "death touch". There ARE ways to kill a person, and part of the training is how NOT to accidentally do such. How to be able to hit pressure points to stun or incapacitate without HURTING people. And anyone who'll sell you a $5 guide to murder is full of crap.

    • @AdamBladeTaylor
      @AdamBladeTaylor Před 2 lety +6

@@mikewade1604 Yes, that's true for responsible gun owners. The issue is the other 99% of people who own guns.
I mean, one of the key things to start with would be to simply make it illegal to carry a weapon outside of your house. You want a gun to defend your home, fine. You're more likely to be murdered by it by someone who breaks in or to killed in an accident than ever use it to actually defend yourself, but at least that way you're only shooting you or your family. And not random people on the streets.
There is ZERO reason for anyone to walk around armed. Having a gun will not stop crime, but it WILL create crime. Either someone taking your gun and shooting you with it (which is common) or you shooting someone you have no right to shoot (which is even more common).
So have your arsenal of 10,000 guns. Just keep them at home. Locked up with ammo kept locked up separately. Then if the Republicans end democracy, you can get killed by the government with your huge collection of murder weapons. Try and defend your home with your guns when the tank just drives through it.

To pass our grading we needed to do that sequence in under 10 seconds. In the late 90s our school joined The Black Dragon Fighting Society, and pretty soon our sensei would bring in bullshido artists from around the world to come over and demonstrate their brutal techniques on his students in seminars. At the time of course, none of us really knew what a bullshido artist was. As Google started taking off, all these masters would later be revealed to be frauds. This video is fantastic. I have a good story about martial arts.
So I've been practicing kickboxing for about 7 years now, I love everything about it. But I was in a severe depression when I started, and at times I was scared that I would've been judged for all the scars on my wrist. I instead found a group that accepted me for who I was, where I could train without the stress of having to compete in tournaments, don't get me wrong I love sparring, but tournaments are a no go for me. But anyway, throughout the years this group helped me gain my self confidence back and more. And I can't thank them enough for it.

I figured that was the case but confirmation is good too.

Like telling yourself that people won't take you seriously if you're just training. I've realised so many times over the years that I'm obviously wrong about this but the feeling persists. It's funny how the mind works sometimes but I think the answer is to just go for it.

On the positive side, just to prove the babbling the pastor was "translating" wasn't actually anything more than nonsense, my sister and I became linguists. We each speak completely different languages and had a ball learning each one. I'm not as fluent nowadays in any of the ones I learned over the years as I want to be but they have always been the highlight of my life.

I had studied martial arts starting at around 17 and now that I am in my late 40's, I have come to the realization that most of the MA teachers I had were basically ego driven cult leaders. I had a few more casual influencing MA friends who wanted to train to improve self defense but most instructors were keeping you going so they get money and act like they are teaching you something.
I encountered some Ashida Kim followers before that practice bullshitto nonsese.
It's too bad that my experience with MA has been so filled with bs that I just quit and don't plan on dealing with dojo's, dues, paying someone to throw me around, dealing with partners that injure you, dealing with someone trying to lord over me, dominate me and make me feel like I will never be good (so you keep coming)
the Japanese people I studied under are not any better with that psychological domination cult junk. dont be fooled.
now i just focus on strength training with out weight lifting and I feel great. i have no injuries. i don't have anyone barking at me.

Spot on. I too trained at a few different dojos throughout high school and college, and 90+% of these people are just for-profit grifters trying to get the most tournament points and promote their business. Having also been in a number of actual street fights in my youth, I can safely say that a lot of what they teach will get you killed on the street.
There is very little difference in what you will learn at an expensive dojo vs. a course at the city rec center. More importantly, there is no school of "wu-do" that can teach you to stop a bullet. The key to staying alive in a rough area is situational awareness, aka paying attention, not knowing how to disarm a cooperative opponent in 17 different ways.

I've had the opposite experience at the few boxing, BJJ, Kickboxing and MMA gyms I've trained at. Actually sparring or rolling with each other is a great way to build respect and form bonds with people. I've found.
Might be worth ago if you've already put 17 years in. I've noticed some Karate, TKD stuff does transition once you start rounding out your toolkit getting comfortable being hit and getting conditioned (you've already started that if you're weight lifting). Judo is legit effective too.

I used to be in a bs martial arts school. Super expensive, you had to buy the uniform and every individual patch, including an American flag and could be denied your next belt for not getting it after beginer classes. You had to buy an insane amount of protective gear- but you weren't allowed to hit people?? You had to just gently touch them. They shamed people who wanted to leave and it was super culty with the lessons about perseverance and not being a quite. I also beat a 'black belt' sensei in sparring when I was 12 and an orange belt (4th belt about 8 months of training.) They called it ishanru karate?

He learned how to slide people off of him who were trying to tackle him etc and he got tackled a lot less. I don't think what he learned would have helped much in a real fight, but it did help him in football at least at the highschool level.

Aikido is a legit martial art. However it's simply not a terribly effective martial art unless it's used against an untrained fighter, with zero experience in any martial arts disciple. Seagal is a legitimate Akido black belt and a fairly accomplished one at that but if he fought say a legit Judo, Jujitsu or Kung Fu, etc black belt he'd get his ass kicked. Even a good wrestler or boxer could throw him a beating. How do we know this? Simple how many Akido practitioners are ranked in the top 10 in any weight class in the UFC? Answer: None. Capuara same thing. It looks really cool in lesser promotions than the UFC against inferior opponents with minimal skills and little to no experience but you don't see them doing well in the UFC in the top 25 of any weight class.
