      -living aboard a capital ship
      -quantum economy

    SC is now far enough along that CIG is now able to discuss among themselves what a 1.0 release would look like. The development schedule has unfilled dates extending to 2026. It is reasonable to believe that the v1.0 would come some time near or after the end of 2026. They must have a clear development target so they must discuss what would define that objective. V1.0 is not near, it is simply no longer beyond the event horizon.

      yah, 2 years of focused exponential growth with 150 - 200 systems at release, maybe 50 of which are developed and the other 50 promised will be player developed with CIG stepping in occasionally to upgrade the civilization level post initial release. What I want to know is how many players per system. This will determine how many systems are required for release. I estimate of a potential 5 million concurrent players online the first year. CIG has to be able to support a potentially record breaking player base for any game. If they fail to provide an adequately large verse with enough concurrent points of interest the verse would turn into a toxic overcrowded slum. Its not enough to have massive systems, you have to distribute the players in them with entertainments. They have to have the ability to instantly scale the verse as needed. If there is only 1 verse, the entire verse fails if you overload it. @@CitizenScott

      @@CitizenScott have to see what 4.0 looks like and when the release is. If it’s at the end of 2024 then a 2027 release date seems feasible. If we’re talking mid 2025 then yeah this is just another CIG fluff piece to build hype.

    Official 1.0 Road Map: Create a background lore for all the wristwatch-loving T-pose and A-pose NPCs standing on tables and guardrails across the Universe. Chris Roberts finally lets us in on the secret that they were a flash mob social experiment all along, and absolutely not in any way whatsoever any kind of bug that they are unable to fix. No sir. 🥳

    "F'ing Night Vision had me laughing. Honestly though this is a solid list. I'd add solid Medical gameplay including Player and PVE missions for the vers' EMT's to actually have instead of waiting for the false flag beacons to go up just to have our asses handed to us far too many times because someone wanted to ambush an under geared medic. As well as Player reputation. Being able to leave a review of good or bad service would go a LONG way in curbing the false flag beacons.

    Because until they release a '1.0' of either SC or S42, they still don't officially qualify as a 'game developer and publisher', because as of the moment, they haven't delivered a 'completed' game. ()
    By delivering a 'complete' (Non-alpha/beta/tech demo/marketing tool) 1.0, they disqualify the 'Scam Citizen' moniker.
    They have to be careful not to slaughter all the cows in the process of serving the steak. - The steak cannot afford to be perfect. 'Good enough' is the financial optimum.

    One of the biggest things Star Citizen needs for 1.0 is complete ships. Not just functioning lifepods, mastermodes and such, but oxygen simulation, the new destruction tech they've been promising, engineering gameplay, revamped repair mechanics, and make sure every single flyable ship is up to gold standard. If there's functionality they want for ships in their game, I think that needs to be locked down by 1.0 or dropped entirely. They can't be updating the way ships feel or play after the game gets released.
    Honestly, pretty much everything we have in game now is either a tier 1 implementation that needs to be expanded on greatly, or a tier 0 that's just placeholder for something else. Every single one of those needs to brought up to a fully fleshed out state.
    They also need to add more content to Stanton, as they shouldn't be making drastic changes to systems already present in the game after 1.0. There's the fauna present on planets that need to be introduced, they've mentioned that there's supposed to be mountains and bodies of water on ArcCorp, and then revamping the kinds of facilities present in the system and giving different groups a physical presence in the system.

    CIG once said that they intend about 20K players online per system. With 1.5 million current player base you could expect the player base to easily reach 10 million or significantly more upon release. Assuming 25% of player base online at peak we could use 2.5 million as a reasonable starting place for estimating peak players online for v 1.0 that would require 125 systems at 20K players per system.
    What CIG must be wrestling with is how many players per system and how many systems and how much content per system would it require to keep them from over populating systems into a toxic swamp. If I were Chris Roberts, I would not be in a hurry to announce v1.0. I would have what I believe is an almost complete v1.0 online for a quarter and see what happens. It would be a complete commercial disaster to see it overrun without the capacity to support what could become a player base in the multiple tens of millions. I suppose that they could spin up multiple verses, or regional verses to compensate but that might not be enough. CIG has a design which is apparently infinitely expandable, presuming that all servers have the capability to be high availability at release. The system count and practical player count per system must also scale. CIG could simply add hundreds of undeveloped systems to spread players out and that would be a good thing. I believe the 100 system commitment was for developed systems. There must surely be undeveloped systems too and they should be numerous. The game play will be there for players to develop the systems themselves and this can incorporated into the plan for system development of additional developed systems.

      Right now we have 5 million backers and player count maximum of about 100 per server. but thousands upon thousands of players playing the game at any one time - its solved by having multiple servers each with 100 people playing SC. I may be in shard #330 and my friend is in #112 and i can exit my game and join his or vise versa.
      CIG wont make a 20,000 player universal server without the solar systems and planets and stations to handle that kind of traffic - they will do a upgraded version of what we have now. Instead of 100 players per server we will have multiple servers connected through the replication layer and say 400 - 600 players connected to it. So the Replication Layer is the new 'Shard' Im on Shard #090 with 399 other players and when the next systems after Pyro come in by then we will probably have Dynamic Server Meshing and all the improvements to the server tech that will happen to up to that point so maybe another 200 players capacity gets added to the replication layer shard.
      There will be no 'omg what do we do with all these people'!?!?.. they wont jam everybody into 1 server instance. We will have tons of instances that are like parallel universes and slowly as the tech comes online and matures and solar systems get added - Then they can start increasing the size of those instances until we have instances where 1,000+ people are in the same game world. Thats down the road though.. have to crawl then walk THEN run.

    Very well concise and well curated list. Not much to add from a gameplay perspective. What I would like to hear is a plan and commitment regarding the backlog, not only for ships but also for stretch goals. Anyway appreciate your views and content.

    In the grand scheme of the Verse, explorers are the data-generators. So all CIG needs for Exploration T2 is the ability to save scans, set custom markers -- both things covered during the Star Map presentation at CitCon -- manage data, and transfer data. I could see all that hitting by 4.0, let alone 1.0, so no worries there. Only thing NOT yet covered is jump point discovery and such, which a more exciting for many but also more niche and could or could not be in 1.0 really.

      There needs to be more to exploration than just saving markers and waypoints. There needs to be *features* that keep it interesting and dynamic, something changing that always needs new data. Its very hard to do, unless there's some kind of procedural generation, like procedural crash sites or random events that happen over periods of time that explorers can find.

    3.23 will probably be in our hands in 5 weeks or such. Im the most hyped since I dunno mining was released or looting. I wish every ship in the game has their gold standard pass. Ships have missions that go with them. Starfarer can do crafting perhaps crafting/refining different types of fuel or liquids and gases. The medial ships can get npc medial missions. The reliant news ship can use its camera and record and save a 60 sec clip that can be shared ingame or for use in missions.
    All 3.23 citizencon features to be rollee out would make great quality of life. Launch sc with 3 solar systems for 4.0 or 6.0.
    Npc crew to hire, engineering tier 0, component repair. Crafting furnitures and objects to decorate your ship or homestead with. Some more org features.

    I agree with everything! I’d add one thing though, physics. They should make sure all physics are better, such as driving physics, collision physics and explosion damage (why does a mule self destruct do as much damage as a S9 Torp!?). Might be linked to server performance as well, but still.

    1.0 is a must if you think about it logically.
    When SQ42 releases, SC1.0 has to be ready to receive all the players from SQ42 that want to continue their adventure beyond the single player campaign. Imagine the feeling of earning your citizenship in SQ42 and SC is still in alpha, it would be a turn off right there, and such players would never look at SC again. You only get one chance to convert such a player.

    Road to 1.0 still has some milestones to pass before that’s even possible. It depends on how long it takes to finish meshing, and stable separate systems existing simultaneously while still being able to update locations and content live imagine having an update every time a a system gets an update, when there are more than just Stanton & pyro.
    With more and more systems that could turn into updates constantly or every other day.
    Everything else will fall into place as it stands now.

    Looking forward to a more feature complete 1.0 soft release. I mean its gonna be a beta in all but name for a long while after imho. Once all the foundational tech is dialed in I really hope there is a focus shift to mission variety and adding more narrative to them which may be easier once persistent rep is in, making mission AI behave differently depending on your previous faction interactions.

    Engineering, base building and fauna are my top 3 major features for this game. I really want a PvE hunting creatures experience then selling valuable goods to other players kind of experience.

    You're such a skilled presenter, man. Your videos deserve more views. 100% agree with this list, and my views amount to things that could come from proper handling of some of what you mentioned.
    The game lacks a sense of adventure and it lacks character. We need compelling NPCs and creatures with personalities and stories, and we need to feel motivated to explore for the sake of it, because its inheretly fun and interesting. Truly great content is hard to do but no amount of innovative tech is going to keep me coming back to the game if I don't care about where I am or what I'm dong.

This is why my '1.0 feature list' comprises of many features that should drive emergent, organic narratives and reasons to continuously log in, rather than relying on a developer to curate an experience that is simply "completed" in X amount of time.     I think CIG sees that ship sales are past their prime. With ever more new user records and concurrent user records, it is rather strange that pledge influx has plateaued pretty solidly in the past 3 years with the beginning of this year not looking like a big change, either. Steering the game towards a rushed soft release would give them a fitting moment to change the monitarzation model and I really hope they will lean towards a subscription model as this would be the best way to rule out pay to win mechanics like they are practiced right now. With ships being the only progression system in SC, the selling of those is nothing but pay to prorgress or pay to win. They could even make a big fomo event out of it by having a count down to when the last ship sales will be offered.

      I agree with your ship sales remark, but not the sub model. They can monetize in plenty of non-p2w and creative ways with SC, LOADS, without sub price. If they were gonna go sub price that shoulda been the deal a long time ago.

    It's going to be really interesting to see how they deal with "Operational Costs" of capital ships.
    I feel like there is going to be a bit of push-pull between what's healthy economy balance for the game & the desire of many owners to be able to use them, without needing to summon 30 friends.

      Yep, it'll be polarizing. Capital Ships and even some large ships to an extent should *not* be your daily drivers and should really only be pulled for specific purposes, especially with low/no crew, if at all.

    I'm new to start citizen world, although I've heard of it's development over the years. I have no idea what you do in the game. I think if they are going for a 1.0 they could do with explaining what it's is

      It's a life sim in space. That's the simplest way to put it. Anything else and it turns into multiple paragraphs of explanation. Someone recently compared it to Second Life in space, and it's hard to argue with that as a general description for casual onlookers.

      I mean it has been a long time that that has happened to me at least. It is more likely to happen around elevators still but for the most part, land traversal is relatively safe from be swallowed by it! Not saying it won’t still happen from time to time, but I can say it is extremely rare.

Yes your approach to the list was conservative, cause why set to high expectations, regarding it, after all it is CIG and SC we are talking....writing about. Always enjoy your deep inner thoughts about the game, always very well thought and then shared with meat members and everybody else! Spot on as usual!.....all though you missed one very important feature that should be in the DTOX game universe within SC!     Yeah, they need to make and ship an actual video game. Shipping is its own challenge with its own associated proficiencies, and CIG haven't yet shipped a commercial product. I don't think shipping 1.0 or Squadron will be a panacea for SC's issues, but knocking a stack of bug reports down to a handful of known shippables over the course of a year and a half of closeout QA is a proficiency CIG will need if they intend to service SC as an MMO with associated expansions and seasonal/episodic content over the next 10+ years.

    There is no in-game long-term progression. Without that, it's just EA/Alpha. I don't care if it's 1.0 or if they call it "released." An MMO's progression should NEVER be dependent on how much you can spend. And that's all SC is right now and for the foreseeable future. Also, NONE of their gameplay loops are polished. Not a single one. I operate on a "Trust but verify." basis when it comes to SC. I trust their statements. I believe that they believe in the things they say.... Just verify them with actual evidence and materially-impactful development. SM with evo seems to have gone well... I trust that it has.... lets verify in the PU over time. It may work in a deliberately-limited environment, but what about continuously (24/7 or nearly so) at a much larger scale, with much more going on?

    They got a LONG way to go to get the game to even feel like a released game lol I'm in it for the long run, but oh boy they have their work cut out for them. I think other than basic stability....ORG SYSTEMS are the most important. I need my crew to be able to carry out their roles!     Very nice video. But ye ... im affraid what you say for 1.0 wont be in for 1.0. Maybe 20% of your list will be in 1.0, and thats already like 4 years out. I lost all hope for it becoming a game...

      Cheers Bart. I think there's a strong chance of much more than 20% of that list making it into a 1.0 in a couple years, at least. Much of the supporting features are already arriving this year.

    I do feel like this is the same talking head stuff we've been hearing about for the pas 8 years and really nothing much has changed except they're finally paying back the tech debt.
    Overall though I'm pretty upbeat on the state of the project, but only because they are showing results.

    4.0 was hyped back in 2019/2020, and is still not even out, looks closer to release than it did back then, but then again back then also looked close.... so expect 1.0 in 2028/2030 as it's only a early hype with no base as usual.

    This list is actually pretty good. Too many people want everything. That is not possible. Still, I would like to see every ship that's been 5 or more years waiting to finally get made or in active development. Excluding variants & SQ42 ships, that's 14 ships. But some are huge, so I include active development.
    5 systems is fine with me, but they need to drastically improve their procedural tools to pump out content faster. Many would be happy with 1 star system per quarter, but that would take 25 years. No, we need 2 star systems per quarter. Sounds impossible but so did 400 players per shard when the best the game could do was 16 players in Alpha 2.0. More people, better tools, multiple teams doing one star system each.
    And because I am sick of hearing about the fucking jokes. Put a sandworm on Daymar. I don't want to wait another decade before they finally get to it. Same goes with Theaters of War and SATAball. After SQ42 the AC guys need to focus on those.
    I think we'll get most every thing else including all professions at T1 or higher. The NPCs will finally not stand on furniture. The AI will feel good. I think they believe dynamic server meshing is close. The hardest parts are done or nearly done. Truly an exciting time.

    After nearly a decade of multiplayer-less No Man's Sky and seeing Cyberpunk's self-mockingly early release on top of seeing how Starfield turned out compared to what was expected I sincerely think Star Citizen couldn't possibly be any worse by 1.0 release by any stretch of the imagination. Even if this game fully comes out two years from now, other companies are gonna pump out several more remakes and other games by that time just to say they made the same amount of improvements. *cough* call of duty

    I don't understand why people keep calling this new character creator "ground breaking" or "the best", when there are so many better character creators out there in market than exist for years now if not over a decade. I guess they probably less know since they tend to be in japanese or korean games instead of western.

      The Server Meshing tech they are developing and testing right now is the key to more players. The last tests were 400 player capacity and there will be new tests coming up that will be the first rounds of testing having more than one server per system so we may see even bigger stress tests as far as numbers at some point in that cycle

      @@hawkzulu5671 I have seen those tests. Their performance wasn't great from what I heard. Also, I believe we will need even more people per server than that. By server I mean server. I expect server meshing to put in multiple servers per solar system. Even expect multiple servers per planet. I am positive that they are on track to achieve this but for me this is a requirement for 1.0 to be viable.

      @@MashJVS I started playing in 3.17.x when 50 players was maximum per server ..400 player tests sure sounds like a step up to me.. but when you invent something there is no on/off switch - unless you are inventing an on/off switch. The next round of testing is for multiple servers in a solar system instead of one.. before you can crank it up to a server per moon and per space station and turn this guys 890 jump into its own server - you have to start at stage 1 and test the tech, now that you have invented it.

      PS: 1.0 is a release for me where system & features are ingame - and balancing starts.
      Imho to many people complain about balancing currently. The game is not even close to be complete and they need to touch every system a gazillion of times to just give it a nudge of balance feel.
      Imho we should live with how its right now and wait for *all* the features to be ingame. Imagine Balacning a RTS Game in beta with 2 Races where the 3rd race is in development and new units for the 2 races. you need to touch every unit of the 2 races so many times. Or you just wait till every thing is implemented and then start balancing.
      Also I belive having 3 Systems is "enough" to start a 1.0 launch. *but* all features & Tools need to be ready to ensure the quick addition of the next systems.

    I fear they will give us 1.0 when they want/need money and not when it is ready. So expect more rushed content near the end and cut corners after all. Done right this game is 5 years out anything else is a shortcut.

      StarField and Elite Dangerous. ..they didnt drag their feet. Im sure CIG is glad that they didnt go with the initial plan of rushing to release full speed ahead like was the plan during the kickstarter days. Im sure Bethesda and Frontier are breathing a sigh of relief.. 'Im sure glad we rushed the game out, hit the tech limitation brick wall and are out of options.....phew'

      I dont think they're running out of time so much, more that it would likely make more sense to get it out sooner rather than later now that all teams are consolidated, vs the previous "dragging their feet" approach, perhaps. Just a guess.

    as a backer from 2013 im realy sad with SC, MM is boreing as fak and they keep dumming the game down. i backed for a space sim back then, now its pretty much the most arcade and boreing flight model i ever played with.. so i lost most of my hype for SC after the new flight team killed the old FM. for me the sense speed is the most important and SC has none of it left, also devs with pink hair, side buzz cuts and rainbow flags tend to ruin more than they fix. i fear SC have gone woke with noob devs makeing the worst flight model ever made

    Squadron 42 is going to pull a Cyberpunk 2077 and be a buggy mess not worth playing, or paying full price for. Star Citizen is going to be a steaming pile of Tier 0 game mechanics and only the whale will be able to keep it afloat to get it over any sort of recognizable finish line. Best thing that could happen for the project is for another company like Microsoft to swoop in and massage it into something playable. They could call it Freelancer Reborn and bring it to market by 2030 or so.
