since each mosquitoe can lay between 100 and 300 eggs in their lives, you, by taking out 8k mosquitos, actually took 1.2 million mosquitoes from circulation (they lay 300 eggs in a span of at most a 2-3 weeks. in an entire summer you prevented up to 33 million mosquitoes (3 months, average month length of 30 days, mosquitoes laying eggs every 3 days which is about the fastest they can go) .... 33 million mosquitoes less in one single summer, thats quite nice! if each house in a block did this, couting as having 15 houses in a block, in one whole summer, almost 500,000 million mosquitoes do no spring up from those 8k originals per house... not if each night you get 8 k.... yeah, this is a great method

Scientists are currently working out how to attack the Egg stage. But we still have the Pupa stage to hit as well, perhaps Ivermectin can be weaponized to do so more directly. Maybe there are intermediary stages that the current mosquito evolution skipped that we can grandfather in and then attack with an evironment of mutually shared mosquito annihilation.

According to the CDC (www.cdc.gov), the most common way for humans to get rabies is from bats. They also say that there are on average between one to two rabies cases reported per year. I'll take those odds. I am more concerned with tick borne illnesses personally as I live on a tick farm.

Actually, not long, it begins to degrade right away. When you mix it with warm water, it begins to "come alive" and from then on, you have to use it, because it will begin to fall in a very short time. That's why when you make bread, you get the yeast ready first, to make sure it's still good, and when it bubbles, you need to use it to make the bread and get It in the oven. You can make something called a "mother" which you continue to add to it, but it stays in the refrigerator until you use some, and then add to it to keep it going, but that too starts to degrade once it's warmed up and is used. Sugar or not, it will degrade quickly. Hope that helps.
Unrefrigerated sourdough "mother" can last forever, with some batches being traced back over 100 years, but it has to be fed flour and water all the time to keep it alive. A person would end up with buckets-full of the stuff if none of it was ever actually used up. Not to mention that even "cheap" flour gets expensive when it's constantly used.

Again, *having actually tried different methods, in AK* uv based bug zappers are highly effective at clearing a cabin of mosquitoes after someone accidentally leaves a door open. I don't know if the breed of mosquitoes in Alaska react differently that others, but there you can watch the mosquitoes take their stealthy meandering corkscrew approach, sticking to crevices and shadows, then take a curved swoop in to try to approach unseen. While some will cross open spaces, most of them will stay more hidden. If they were just bumbling around, you would kill few of them. *But that's not what we observed.* You can watch them stalk, then swoop in toward the uv light and go zap when they try to pass through the mesh. Without the light, they rarely pass through that same visible open space. *We don't get a few bumblers, they aggressively go after it and it clears a cabin* of all but the few stragglers that seem to have a propensity to hide in extra dark deep crevices and wait more for close movement/approach. An example: Up river (super mosquito rich) in 1 night where someone accidentally left a port open, we woke up to a table covered in singed half-mosquitos & dust and a mound on a paper plate directly beneath the zapper, over 800 mosquitos just on the plate. (we were bored & wanted to see how well it did, so we counted) If they were not in some way tricked/attracted/confused into moving toward it (aka _attracted_), then we wouldn't have a mostly empty cabin with a pile of ashes, we'd have some randomly dead mosquitos and a cabin full of them lurking to bite us. We've tested this scientifically, and the hypothesis that the AK mosquitos aren't attracted to uv bug zappers seems observably false/debunked. In our own testing, it has proven observable, repeatable, consistent, counter testable (eg your bulb gets broken on your bug light, so all you have is the zapper part).
The screen would be clogged with moths in minutes. Heat and co2 are better attractants for mosquitoes. I use Octenal attractants on our bug zapper. The bulb blew and it still zaps just as many mosquitoes without the bother of cleaning out moths everyday.

My son Anthony is a falconer and he lives out on a farm in Northern California. There's so many mosquitoes that carry West Nile out there, he already lost two Goshawks to them. Each bird can cost up to $2,500. I think paying the electricity bill would be worth it. OSH :-)

That would be when the sun goes down, night time. So, when he is in there, it is because he likes it. Rocky, like all our dogs were RESCUES, not purchased, and Rocky's ears were already cropped when we got him….

Actually, not long, it begins to degrade right away. When you mix it with warm water, it begins to "come alive" and from then on, you have to use it, because it will begin to fall in a very short time. That's why when you make bread, you get the yeast ready first, to make sure it's still good, and when it bubbles, you need to use it to make the bread and get It in the oven. You can make something called a "mother" which you continue to add to it, but it stays in the refrigerator until you use some, and then add to it to keep it going, but that too starts to degrade once it's warmed up and is used. Sugar or not, it will degrade quickly. Hope that helps.
Unrefrigerated sourdough "mother" can last forever, with some batches being traced back over 100 years, but it has to be fed flour and water all the time to keep it alive. A person would end up with buckets-full of the stuff if none of it was ever actually used up. Not to mention that even "cheap" flour gets expensive when it's constantly used.

300 watts, 24 hours = $1 per fan per day. 4 fans = 1200 watts or $3 a day. We only run them 24/7 during the summer or about 3 months out of the year = about $100 in electricity. The grid tie inverter hooked to our 1kW solar panels covers part of it.

Because mosquitos aren't attracted to light. All those traps are essentially useless
Again, *having actually tried different methods, in AK* uv based bug zappers are highly effective at clearing a cabin of mosquitoes after someone accidentally leaves a door open.
I don't know if the breed of mosquitoes in Alaska react differently that others, but there you can watch the mosquitoes take their stealthy meandering corkscrew approach, sticking to crevices and shadows, then take a curved swoop in to try to approach unseen.
While some will cross open spaces, most of them will stay more hidden. If they were just bumbling around, you would kill few of them. *But that's not what we observed.* You can watch them stalk, then swoop in toward the uv light and go zap when they try to pass through the mesh. Without the light, they rarely pass through that same visible open space.
*We don't get a few bumblers, they aggressively go after it and it clears a cabin* of all but the few stragglers that seem to have a propensity to hide in extra dark deep crevices and wait more for close movement/approach.
An example:
Up river (super mosquito rich) in 1 night where someone accidentally left a port open, we woke up to a table covered in singed half-mosquitos & dust and a mound on a paper plate directly beneath the zapper, over 800 mosquitos just on the plate. (we were bored & wanted to see how well it did, so we counted)
If they were not in some way tricked/attracted/confused into moving toward it (aka _attracted_), then we wouldn't have a mostly empty cabin with a pile of ashes, we'd have some randomly dead mosquitos and a cabin full of them lurking to bite us.
We've tested this scientifically, and the hypothesis that the AK mosquitos aren't attracted to uv bug zappers seems observably false/debunked. In our own testing, it has proven observable, repeatable, consistent, counter testable (eg your bulb gets broken on your bug light, so all you have is the zapper part).
The screen would be clogged with moths in minutes. Heat and co2 are better attractants for mosquitoes. I use Octenal attractants on our bug zapper. The bulb blew and it still zaps just as many mosquitoes without the bother of cleaning out moths everyday.

And now with billy fencedoors diabolical 'gmo mosquitos' being released upon us it is good to know we have a way of dealing with those too. - not sure the critters will want to eat those things though.

My son Anthony is a falconer and he lives out on a farm in Northern California. There's so many mosquitoes that carry West Nile out there, he already lost two Goshawks to them. Each bird can cost up to $2,500. I think paying the electricity bill would be worth it. OSH :-)
