    Thanks for responding so quickly . It's not a whining sound . It's the exact sound you hear at the fuel tank when the fuel pump is priming - except , this sound is more faint and in or at the back of the engine compartment . You can't hear it back at the fuel tank

  • @jasond.606

    You are exactly right about the fuel injectors , now that I have slowed down to think about it . What I'm confused about in the second part of your last comment is the part about " hid's " and the ballasts you mentioned again . I've tried to look up online where this part would be on my 2000 chevy 1500 and nothing comes up for it . BTW , I will try removing the fuel pump relay today to see if that makes that noise stop and I'll give you a follow up . Thank you for your other suggestions .

    My 96 Silverado 4.3 has a hard starting problem i have to crank it a few times before it actually starts. Do you think it could be a bad fuel pump? I changed the ignition wires put ac delco iridium spark plugs, ac delco ignition coil , ac delco distributor rotor and cap and also the crankshaft sensor but still hesitates to start.

    • @backyardchevy328
      @backyardchevy328  Před 3 lety

      Usually thats a problem with the fuel pressure regulator(unfortunately its same work as replacing full pump)..the fuel pressure doesnt hold in the lines because its leaking past the fuel pressure regulator back into the tank, so its gotta build up pressure again and thats why u have to crank it a few times.

    New pump (delphi after the Delco took a shit after 6 months. Come to find out the Acdelco and Delphi are the same exact pump), filter and upgraded injectors. Truck primes to 20 psi and holds (regulator should be good), starts like new and runs for a few minutes then bogs out and dies. Wait a few and she'll fire up and run again then bog out. Also threw a new pump relay to replace the original factory relay lol . Oh yeah, off the pigtail I get 12v on grey and 5v ref on purple....any help would be killer!

      When u turn the key to on engine off..the pump will build up oil pressure..then the fuel pressure regulator will release the fuel over the amount it wants to regulate it at...so once u start it..the fuel pressure will be drop a lil lower cause its at the rail and the fuel is being sprayed into the engine so its maintaining that same amount of fuel but also being consumed

    When I checked the fuel pressure on my 2000 chevy silverado 1500 5.3 , it read 50-51 PSI . When I started the truck , the pressure dropped to 48 PSI and the needle on the tester vibrated rapidly up and down within about 2 - 3 PSI of the 48 PSI . Is that normal ?? I have seen other videos of people using these testers and the needle usually stays fixed on a number when they start their trucks - unless of course they have a significant drop in Pressure . I kept hearing a constant , faint sound in the engine compartment like the sound the fuel pump makes while priming up - I couldn't hear it at the fuel tank . I always thought , when the fuel pump primes up it shuts off until you start the truck . That sound is at least 6 feet from the fuel tank , coming from the engine compartment . Does anyone have any ideas or know what it actually is ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated .
