- T Dream rocking the house in Berlin, 1969. Edgar Froese, guitar. Klaus Schulze, drums. "Happy" Dieter, bass. No one seems to know who "Happy" Dieter was.
It was filmed at the St. George Fountain in the courtyard of a restaurant on Potsdamer Str. The fountain now sits in Hindemithplatz, as the restaurant was torn down years ago, and the area is now a generic looking shopping district.
Sometimes also called the "Bathtub Session." - Hudba
Undoubtedly one of the best videos on the internet.
Agreed.

REST EASY MR SCHULZE
R.I.P. Edgar Froese (1944-2015)
He was actually a very good guitarist as exemplified on Stratosfear & Force Majeure. Whatever he was doing in this video does not represent his true talent.
RIP Klaus Schulze
This is like a cultural time capsule in film.
Fan-bloody-tastic! Love it, never heard them like this. Thanks for posting this! :-)
Klaus D. Müller and Klaus Schulze both confirmed what Andy King says. It seems Happy Dieter never divulged his surname.
Man..I wanna play a show in a ruined Courtyard.
An amazing relic. Thanks for sharing.
Haha so fun,He don't know hot to play guitar, but it's cool to see Klaus on drums, good drummer.
Great. Love this.
Wow, this is truly historic!
Shades of Interstellar Overdrive , etc., early Floyd jams. I think it's a compliment to say so. PF invented some forms of "Space Rock", TD just developed and explored further, two of my favorite bands......Edit: CONFIRMED, early TD jams WERE conscious "variations" on the theme of Interstellar Overdrive, etc. I read it on the Wikipedia page.
Not surprising, The Floyd was a huge influence of the times.
Everyone is so cool
Damn mixed super well
the bass really just cuts through the mix...
Wow! Completely different! No synths! Like a lot of bands I guess. Fairport and Queen started out from a completely differnt place to where they ended up.
That’s because they were krautrock
Espectacular.....
Wild scene unlike Cleveland perfomnce 70's
Goldene Zeit, ❤
Great
Check out the foot weirdo at about 2:20 LOL!!!
Check the 6:44 the girl so beautiful. How's she now? I keep thinking about how are all those people now a days, if they are alive, etc..
They look like they were having so much fun! People just don't know how to party these days!
Proto-metal by Tangerine Dream out of all bands. My mind is fucking blown....
Poland Loves TD ;-)
A Rave party in 1969!
Hey! This is the inside of my head! 😂
its AMAZING....
I'm sure I read somewhere that this area was heavily bombed out (and spaced out by the look if it!) in the war which is why it looks kind of empty and cavernous in this film. The rebuilding process took many years.
They actually blasted it in 1973. Today there is the "Sony Centre"
@@ondiras but the fountain was saved and has been moved
In the description it says, "...No one seems to know who "Happy" Dieter was...". He's related to Happy Kyne and the Mirthmakers. Or Happy Klein or Kline, there seems to be some confusion.
The drummer blows keith moon of the stage, Not only was he with tangerine dream, but he was also drummer four Ashra Temple
Not a cellphone in site. Just people enjoying the moment. What a time and place to be!
"Happy" Dieter died in 1974. I guess he was too "happy" too often...
You can't really see "Rubycon" here, can you?
More "Electronic Meditation" or "Alpha Centauri"... ;)
Guy kicks into the Gestapo March there for a second at 2:07.
LOL yeah....he then thinks better of it ;-)
Old habits die hard.
I am your host, Happy Dieter. Now is time on Sprockets when we dance.
terrific high, hahaha
KrautJam
Reel KOOOLE

1:47 Is that Paris Hiliton's Mom? lmao!
Also! Neck pickup only guitar???
Happy Dieter, hahaha !!! The pretty girl at 0:34 has some difficulties to nod her head and keep the rythm of the "song"... Anyway... The musicians were facing the same problem;) .... But waouh, she's so pretty
The People!!😂
I don't see any mics on the drums and amps, so I think the music is dubbed on. This explains why nobody is dancing in time I suppose.
I think the music explains why Niemand is dancing in time.
dancing in time, the music is barely in time lmao
It just works fine with one or two mics placed in the room. This is some tiny art happening and not Woodstock, nobody mic'd drums on an event like this in 1969. They just started recording live shows in a propper way back then. Even in the 90s, drums were sometimes unmic'd on smaller shows I visited.
dancing on Shrooms or LSD more like
You can tell by looking at their hands that the music was dubbed. Fingers playing guitar solos while we hear strumming is a good clue.
Lot of things going on in this
what is up with that happy dude caressing the dancing woman's feet with a piece of shrubbery?
I'd be guessing 'Happy" Dieter was probably Dieter Moebius (R.I.P. 2015). Although I don't think he ever had a moustache after 1969.
no, totally different guy. 'Happy' Dieter died of a drug overdose in 1974
@@AndyKing1963 How about...Dieter Dierks the producer of many great German rock albums?
West Berlin, the lady Frontier, WHERE the Californiano hippies had and impact ... East Berlin?
Germany Yeahh 60s Dream
some the most aimless jamming ever god bless them. one of the best scene report films ever captured
Yeah straight up, they can’t keep a groove for more than ten seconds. It’s like Anti-CAN
This my friend is acid rock. Not born to be wild, by steppenwolf Which is a very cheesy song
Good thing they moved on to synthesizers
This sounds awesome also.
The guy at 1:43 looks like my dad.
You can listen to some part that will turn into their later song, Diamond Diary 1:35
Tangerine dream 1967
Quite similar to the space(d) jams played by early Guru Guru (listen to the UFO lp!) on LSD.
Happy Dieter, hmmm. Could it be Dieter Dierks before he became a record producer for groups like Scorpions, Nektar, and Ash Ra Tempel?
no, different guy - 'happy' Dieter died of a drugs overdose in 1974
Beavis dance 2:05
I bet this was very very loud!!!
CIA agent next to the lady in yellow dress seems to enjoying himself.
0:48 I need a time machine so I can marry the girl in red
I need the same machine so I can marry the girl in yellow by 0:35.
On 2 mins 16 sec the guy has a green leaf playing with females feet while dancing
For this type of music, it's almost better if you don't really know how to play. Different ideas come out that a well-trained musician would never think of. I'm a prime example of that. I've trained and practiced for so many years that I'm totally stuck in a rut as a conventional guitar player - lol. Oh well. At least there are plenty of free thinking musicians out there that I can listen to that are far from conventional. :)
Very good point
Women back then looked prettier and natural than nowdays...
Want to marry the women in red.
This is awesome but why is it on here :p
?
Let's face it, at that time they could not play.
Disagree.
I don't know. I'm not saying this to be an annoying hipster, but I really like early TD.
This is horrible. Almost embarrassingly so. That’s because all three of these musicians went on to make some of the most important (and enjoyable) music in my collection. This video reveals them as amateurs, playing music when they were hardly ready to play publicly. It is only because the audience was so naive that they were able to get away with it. I can relate, well, almost - I am also a musician (though not anywhere as well know as they became), and I’m proud of many of the works I’ve released. But if someone found a video of the band I was in the summer before I entered high school I’d crawl under a rock and would have to be coaxed out with the promise that the video and all its copies would be destroyed.
Tom Lyle I mean “two of these musicians. Who the heck is that bass player? ;)
They were played by the music. So who is to blame?
Disagree. Even the best have to start somewhere and it's a billion times more listenable and charming than anything I did out of high school.
Sorry Sir, you are damn judgemental (like Germans ;D often are .. sadly)... This is like the pure stuff, later many things were made and growing of .. :D
Tom you don't even have a profile pic. GTFO of here.
