Oh Joan Fontaine!! Who can resist her!!! So elegant, sad yet sophisticated Actress 😘 Simply love all her movies 💯👍💖
I love ❤️ hearing Johnny. Singing A certain smile 😊 😊
Those were the days. Real movies, no BS! Adore Rossano Brazzi! Fell in love with hm as a teenager when he did South Pacific with Mizzi Gaynor. He was 'The Bomb' not just then, but throughout his whole life along with John Kerr! Paris looks wonderful, it was filmed the year prior to my first trip to France at age 12. So many memories flooding back as I watch. How wonderful!
👍
Yes Patricia, Brazzi and other actors and actresses were always chic and well spoken even in western movies. People always copy their dresses as a new fashion within a week A new hair design, skirt’ blouse would apear in the street.
The only bad habit they introduced was heavy smoking the cigarets which I learned it at the age of 14 and stayed with me for next 40 years.
It is true that they do not make any more movies like 50’s and 60’s.
Thanks to youtube , we can watch them very nicely.
Uncle David- Houston
The female actresses
Was a teen when it came out in 1958, never saw the movie until now…But the song “ A certain Smile” remains alive in me for years.
An excellent movie of friendship, love and betrayal
It did a great job of showing how ones reckless decisions can affect so many
I just love this movie 🍿 I had it on vhs for quite a while I don’t know what happen to it I always loved 🥰 rossanno brazzi. He was so. Handsome
Entertaining and enjoyable movie to watch. Paris was so different looking then. It was a city of love and being in love. So much has changed since then, even being in love!
Call me nostaligic, romantic, but I loved this film. Many parts of it were echos of my own days. Paris in the sixties - ca me manque toujours.
One of Alfred Newman's finest movie scores
Lots of memories from the 50s...great music like this. People were nicer as well..done with war til later. Oh God help us.
When i was 16 i concluded i would never get married and i didnt. Now 82. Still feel the same.
Not even love affairs? Please
19 years ago I visited Paris with my family- it’s been nice to look back! ❤
The '80 compared to the '50 You cant' be serious What memories?
Actually 2000! Memories?
Bradford Dillmans list of work must have been enormous. The number of times he turns up on tv,films etc
Johnny Mathis made a hit from this song

It depends If you are English or American After all the film is horrible
The movie portrays very truthfully how vulnerable a young woman is to a sophisticated and handsome older man. It was obvious he wanted a randevous
Love this film. So many prudish people commenting.....This is life...we can disapprove...but it doesn't make it disappear.
I would have fallen for Rossano Brazzi who is so hot - especially "Summertime" with Katherine Hepburn" who falls for him too! Lovely film
And South Pacific
Adultery
I lost my brother and sister and my mother lives with their memory but I am still here, can't compete with the dead.
Rossano Brazzi reminds me of the actor Christopher Plummer from the movie, Sound of Music - Brazzi and Plummer, both charming. A Certain Smile, a sad movie with hopeful ending.
It was an outstanding movie with great acting and music which leaves a great memory in my mind unlike the new music full of jumping, screaming, without any meaning. The location was ver romantic and Riviera was a show case. The story could happened to most of us. A young and nice looking girl who is interested in a better life , lush and nice trip vs. a penniless boyfriend could be true anytime of the life. The story is sweet and reminding.
There was no one like Johnny Mathis...magical voice. This movie was very disturbing ,; same period I was in school facing same decisions. But I did have more common sense! Shame on married men !
Refreshing to read a comment mentioning Mathis' singing.
Joan Fontaine tenía personalidad y Elegancia
A wonderful movie!! The best acting. Top production. Loved the location shots. Paris, the Riviera, the little town, So beautiful.
Love this movie. 2nd time around because of the settings, the acting and the real-life French affair. Joie de vie!
Loved this film.
What a beautiful film
'You smell of warm grass.' That's a new one!
I know right🤣😂
Based on my favourite Francoise Sagan novel. The opening paragraph is superbly written. Read the book, and in French.
My memories too....sigh
Older & wiser, thank you for the movie.
Glad that you liked it.
Lovely film thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Marvelous!
Rossano even puts Cary Grant to shame.
I agree
@@sondrasmith2691Brazzi..so charmed and beautifull.
I am Italian but still let's not exaggerate !😅
This one was new to me. Sagan wrote such sad stories. This particular plot briught to mind Dory Previn's song about young girls. Anywho good movie and good to see a young Johnny Mathis.
I knew a "Newman," Alfred in this case, HAD to be doing the music. The Newman's music pretty much dominated the movies of The Golden Age Of Hollywood. Their music was exquisite, and remains so, in our hearts and minds, today. Also, these foreign-filmed movies have some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen.
It happens ALL the time! Older man, married or otherwise attached, will attempt to ,turn,a young lady's head, because, They already have someone, what's to lose? I worked Daycare at 16,& ,my Very Pregnant boss's Husband, driving me home from her Babyshower,And he pulls over & Tries to kiss Me! I was Terrified, & disgusted!!! He was Gorgeous, but ,I Loved & respected my boss, she was sooo kind to me! I made him take Me Home!!! I never told her. It would be too horrible for a pregnant woman, feeling soo safe in her Life. Plus,I wasn't Stupid enough to think He ACTUALLY, liked Me!!
And the other way arround never happens. Naief!
You must have felt terrible and freaked out! Sad for her and how common it is!
such a good story!
the best cast possible!
a timeless movie...thoroughly enjoyable! Hurray Francoise Sagan...
EXcelente...
🤣😂 interesting movie. Glad she decided to go back to school and move on rather then hold onto the past.👏👏👏
Love the tune..."That Certain Smile."
Those times are gone forever. Thnaks for uploading this film made from a novel of Francoise Sagan. You have many good films on your channel.
Thank you.

Merci, Françoise Sagan ! / R.I.P. /
This is a movie where it's easy to loathe all the characters! 😮
Good movie
我好喜欢Joan Fontaine,总是那么清新娇柔……🌹
What happened with civilization? Such a gentle, with a touch of romantizm, story about forgiveness! If you love someone, you need to forgive her or his mistakes in life. In case of the adulterous man, we gave a person with psycho emotional disorder.
Поучительный фильм, сценарий и актёры very good👍
Des films qu’on ne voit plus aujourd’hui 2024
I liked it, a good old European romance story of a young woman caught in a state of confusion about two men in her life. She and the two men had to face the truth about their feelings.
Um lindo filme. Obrigada Canal. Mais uma inscrita.
Obrigado.
So sad that they make sin look so
Enjoyable & simple.
LOL
That was their intention.
Young lovely girl in the movie. And uh-oh...enter Rossano Brazzi..We know the rest..
En jätte bra film ❤❤❤❤mycke kärlek I den ska se den fler gånger frampå kram ❤pia 🎉
Det är en utmärkt film. Kul att du njöt av det - titta igen många gånger.
I would have loved to seen Ms. Joan and Ms. Olivia do a picture together while they both were living .
They hated each other
Next to Rhonda Fleming, Joan Fontaine is the most stunning woman in movies.
No!!...she's charming and talented...but don't exagerate!😅
@@christophepena2212 it's my opinion, not yours
No hope for Mary Wickes then?
Funny how joan Fontaine is over 41 almost same age with rosssano brazzi and she looks so young
What a movie!!!
Young woman gets played.

It's life
Infatuations and those who take advantage..it is perfect fit.. predatory behaviour by those with charm are a weapon for grief ..
Perfectly said.
Typical French adultery histories. Francoise Sagan was an expert. It was her second book called in French “un certain sourire » she was 19 when she wrote that book. I preferred her first one « Bonjour tristesse » when she was only 17. Nice to see Paris of my enfancy. It has changed unfortunately like all beautiful European towns.
Thank you, Mlle. Dominique, for your comment. Interesting to know about Francoise Sagan and yr preferences. Merci. (BTW: you now have a new subscriber).
The charming handsome Rossano Brazi is always the prince pursuing the princess. This dominic girl knows better she should not be playing both sides of the fence luc is married bertum is not end of story.
This is life you know the rules you can't have both. Shame on her for not cutting ties with luc the first time he kissed her.❤what woman could resist an Italian lover!!!!!😮
Exactly. And she was flattered by his attention and showering her with outings.
Plenty of women with morals and values, but this is a movie even though things like this happen in real life this is just a movie
I so agree!😊
I really enjoyed this movie, it rang-true for Me - reminding Me of that Time-of-Life when just beginning; for the first-time (as a very-young Woman) beautiful, desired, in-love, confused, excited, hormone-driven, full of Dreams for the Future - but unsure of which direction it would take.
I’m glad to have experienced that (and miss some parts), but regretful of some-decisions made… and so-glad that My ultimate-choices re Love were right.
Thank-You for this special-film, it was beautifully made and acted!
Happy that you enjoyed it.
Very well said, I felt like the young girl too when I was young.
Omigosh, 1958 Paris where you can come out of your flat at dawn and there is a woman in a big white apron at a stand on the sidewalk overlooking the Seine with the Notre Dame in the background, selling breakfast to take away. What ever happened to those days before McDo arrived and ruined the ambience!!??
It is not just Paris Everywhere is the same
Multinationals took over and removed the uniqueness of all countries to make them all homogenous. Politics also wants individual countries to lose their culture and history that makes them unique and separate from each other.
I knew it was the end of French tradition when my husband & I were travelling by car in France & wanted lunch. We entered a typical restaurant in a village but were told the kitchen had just closed & the chef was on break. When we asked where we could go for a meal, the restaurateur, who seemed sympathetic, replied, “You can go to the McDo, no?” 😳😭
Im here for jean negulescu. He is romanian like me.
😊
/ Felicitări !
Who is she?
Rossano Brazzi must have been typecast in roles playing the cheating husband. The story of Esther Costello is another movie I recently watched with Joan Crawford where he had a roaming eye for a young innocent woman that ended up being his downfall.
See South Pacific 👍
Some enchanted evening.........
,,¿??
I am so disappointed. A young couple starting a life of marriage is interrupted by an older immoral and unfaithful husband.
"Hollywood" LOVES this story. And, what about the young slut???

Rossano Brazzi is hot

Ja, han är en vacker man - kul att du gillade bilden.
Glamorous slop from the time perhaps cinema was starting to normalise immorality to the sound of violin ensembles. Yet compared to todays cinema it seemed positively wholesome. Enjoyable, a little; bearable, just; and probably more enjoyable to young girls than anyone else.
I don’t agree. It’s enjoyable for some old woman like me that was thirteen when this movie was filmed and had this kind of morals inculcated into her head as if it should be her duty to be aware of the real purpose of men and at the same time be innocent and pure and try to attract a husband. Things have changed since then but it seems not for everyone! I see by the comments here that a lot of people still think like that. It wasn’t easy to be a woman in my days and I think it still isn’t.
Summer time is my favourite with Mr Brazzi. I like the black and white...this is not a good quality.
I love Summertime, too. God, he was gorgeous! The scene in which he first sees Jane Hudson, at Piazza San Marco, Lord have mercy on my soul!
Se ve hermosa pelicula, por por favor traducirla en espoñol. Gracias

Just learn English like all of us instead of asking others to work for you.
@@tia904 Why don't we all try to learn each other's language and culture. The world would be such a wonderful place. I am an American and I speak perfect English, ASL, and some Spanish, but I do not shame someone who does not know my language or culture. I teach them if they are willing to learn. Please try to be helpful and kind instead of cruel and judgemental. Soon you will be saying things like "go back where you came from".

Very watchable film, lots of pretty interiors, pretty women and clothes! Handsome men as well! Pity the quality of the recording.
Am putting it on now and just saw your post, the qualities I look for in 50's movies, thanks. 😁
Just saw on screen 'produced by Henry Efron'. He his the father of Nora Ephron, she creates beautiful sceneries in movies she is involved in. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I watch out for her movies because of the eye she has for beautiful details in creating a scene.
@@zoepavlou6990 yes! For these reasons it's good to watch films twice; just to admire the feel of the era and the beautiful objects or views!
Thank you so much for the information about the producer; I'll look out for the name from now on.
Enjoy and thank you again. 🤗
@@E-Kat exactly! I forgot to add in more detail for accuracy, Nora makes the feel good movies, it's Nancy Meyers who creates the details in the scenes. Have a nice day 🌞
And the cars!
My goodness people are rough in here. you should watch some movies from the twenties. it would curl your toes .
Why no love for johnny mathis ?

As lovely as this is, this print is in dire need of a color-correction...
Dominique has blonde hair
It seems to be winter, yet they are wearing light clothing. Very 1950s with all the romantic cliches, when ladies wore gloves, yet enjoyable in a way.
Did she end up with Bertrand? I think Luke and wife stayed together. Movie confusing in that all characters from different countries and somehow related. Brother and sister completely different nationalities and accents.
Ego on both sides
I’m not sure why Dominique and Francois don’t get together instead! They seem to have more chemistry than Dominique and Luke!
Hahaaa..they sure did!
Very disapponted , expected more out of the two main actors.I thing the whole movie would have been more interesting,if the young actress was portrayed by someone else instead.Terrible acting.Such a wasteLove the main actors❤❤

Rossano Brazzi is gorgeous. Who cares about the rest? Christine Carere is terrible.
Ridiculous ! Even in 1958 !!
So strange they felt they had to give her an accent, no one else has one but for the uncle. Imitating an accent is always a parody and her imitation sounds very strange. It is so off. It is a caricature similar to what a stand up comic would do. Good movie otherwise. Thank you for posting.
Touché ... isn't it also strange that most of us are 'trained' to ignore the craze of a lip synchronized film at all .. where the actors then are reawarded with some residue of their own native tongue on top .. Peter Ustinov said that when one of his films premiered in Russia (a crime story) it was unsynchronized with all the roles being read to the audience by the same robotic voice of a russian woman . one local director is quoted 'a good film Peter, but the translater should have been murdered first' 🌷;)
She is from France.
Give who an accent?
