    Too bad they haven't followed up with this storyline in a while. Last year, Grant Morrison said that he would be making "Multiversity Too" stories and releasing them this year, but no new news has come up since then. I just hope that they just put it on hold until Rebirth is set up properly and haven't completely canned this concept.

    As a fan of both DC and Marvel, I am VERY excited for this. There needs to be a healthy competition between the Big 2 for the whole comic cinematic revolution we live in to be successful. Although they're currently drawing material from past story-lines, new, more interesting story arcs will drive the comic-book movies we see in 2025 and beyond.

  • @watcher384

    When DC establish their cinematic universe, they can do crossovers with their television shows like The Flash. Where Grant Gustin meets Ezra Miller. It could be based on this classic story. "Flash of Two Worlds" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_of_Two_Worlds

    • @josephbrocato636
      @josephbrocato636 Před 9 lety

      The series does offer some brief explanations, but it seems like it's best enjoyed if you already understand the concept. Probably one of the quickest ways to get an understanding is of the multiverse is the "Legends" 2-part episode of the Justice League cartoon. I think the comic where alternate dc universes were 1st introduced was in the old flash comic titled "Flash of Two worlds".

      Mostly the series is just a lot of fun. The story of the multiverse is that it used to be infinite, filled with every possible earth, but do to various crises it's been reduced to only 52 Earths. If you just want a simple, fun multiverse story check out Earth 2 with Morrison and Quitely.

    • @increiblo
      @increiblo Před 9 lety +6

      Well, I'll try to bring you up to speed regarding the DC multiverse: In the 40's, in what's known as "The Golden Age" of comics, after the superhero boom started by Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, they start making a whole lot of 'em, among them characters like Dr. Fate, the Spectre, and the original versions of Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Atom, etc. Some of 'em join and form the Justice Society of America. By the late 40's/early 50's, superheroes lose much of their popularity, and the only DC characters that keep being published regularily are Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.
      But, in the late 50's, DC editor Julius Schwartz pushes to bring superheroes back, and assigns creators to make new heroes with old names, and they make the new Flash, Green Lantern, the Atom, Hawkman (these are the versions that are mostly known nowdays). This era is known as "The Silver Age". These, also, join and form the Justice League of America; a group that eventually also includes Superman and Batman.
      But, and here it gets interesting, in the origin of the modern Flash (Barry Allen), he decides to call himself 'the Flash' because he had read the comics of the older Flash (Jay Garrick). So, how could it be, that, for the modern Flash, the old Flash is fictional; but for guys like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, they're both real? This gets explained in the "The Flash of Two Worlds", where Barry Allen finds himself accidentally transported to a parallel Earth, where the older Flash is real- And, by extension, in that Earth, now called 'Earth-2', also exist the older Green Lantern, Atom, Hawkman, etc. plus, the "Golden Age" versions of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Upon returning to his own world, now named 'Earth-1', the modern Flash explains that Gardner Fox, writer of the original Flash (and also writer of "The Flash of Two Worlds" itself; so he put himself in his own story), unknowingly chanelled events from a parallel Earth with his mind.
      Afterwards, since that story was pretty well recieved, they made other characters meet their Earth-2 counterparts; and then they did yearly Justice League / Justice Society crossovers (named "Crisis"), established other Earths; such as Earth-3, where existed the Justice League's evil counterpart, the Crime Syndicate. Plus, everytime that DC bought another publisher, they assigned their characters their own Earth (with Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family, from Fawcett comics, existing on Earth-S, Quality comics characters on Earth-X, and Charlton comics characters on Earth-4).
      By the mid-80's, DC wished to streamline all it's continuities into one, and to do so, they made "Crisis on Infinite Earths", which put all the characters in the same Earth and retroactively made all stories to have happened in the same world; with fixes like the Justice Society existing during World War II (without Superman or Batman, and with Wonder Woman's mother, Hippolyta, retroactively being 'the original' Wonder Woman), and the Justice League continuing their legacy in the present. The multiverse comes back years later (without altering the new 'main' Earth or its continuity, 'tho) during 52, but now limited to 52 parallel earths; and it seems to be still around that way in the current, post-Flashpoint, days.
      Anyways, Multiversity goes back to that idea of the events of Earth-2 existing on Earth-1 as comics... So comics themselves are unwitting paths of communication between parallel earths. Each issue of Multiversity is a first issue of an imagined series, each happening in a different DC parallel earth. And the Earth of each issue exists in the next as a comic. For example, in the 3rd issue of Multiversity, "The Just", the characters of that Earth can be seen reading the 2nd issue, "Society of Superheroes", just like we did the month before. And when a threat is attacking Earth after Earth, only the characters paying attention to the comics have a clue of what's happening.

      About the multiverse I am surprise there isn't universes out there that isn't almost perfect in every way. With all that get your cape on and step into the light and save the world from crime deeds, I am shocked that didn't create some ripple effect in several universes where evil and crime is almost fake. If those almost perfect universes exist that I call dream universes, you do know the entire multiverse will protect those universes like a gold mind outside those universes. I am surprise we haven't seen some of those almost perfect characters make a appearance entering the main DC Universe .
      I once wrote a fan fiction say Harley Quinn from the main DC universe, she entered a dream universe and she felt she was in heaven almost everywhere. Sadly though Harley's Bat-man from the main DC universe made her leave.

    DC keeps "unifying" these multiverses (why do we need multiple?) with some form of "crisis" every two years. It makes one not care to invest in a continuity if that continuity is "shaken up" so things will "never be the same" with "a major character dying" who'll only be brought back to life later. Not being a hater, just stating the 900 pound cliche in the room.

    • @femoman
      @femoman Před 9 lety

      They haven't been 'unified' since the original Crisis on Infinite Earths back in the 80s. There's always been 52 since then, it only became apparent to the cast and characters with the Infinite Crisis and 52 events. But since then the 52 universes have pretty much always existed without any 'shaking up'. And not every character comes back to life *coughcough* Lian Harper *cough*
