Having just heard some of the Objection track, and I could be wrong on this, but I think it's in reference to the Palmyra court cases involving Joseph Smith rather than the later experiences in jail.

That’s correct, they mention Josiah Stoal. The female voices are the Stoal sisters. Josiah and his daughters were defense witnesses in a trial where Joseph was accused of being a “disorderly person”. He was acquitted. Joseph met Emma while he was working for Josiah Stoal.

You can go see the full production now. It opened on August 6 and runs until September 11, 2021 at the Covey Center in Provo. Experiencing the stage performance will provide the context you are looking for.

Exactly. This song is almost certainly about the time Joseph was on trial for his money-digging back in New York.

@@dodinimusic Exactly! The 1826 trial when J.Stowell testified that he doesn't feel cheated because he himself contracted Joseph to go on the treasure-hunting party as a stone-gazer (looking for a Spanish silver mine). Joseph and his father admitted to his previous stone-gazing and money digging, but said that he already given it up by now.
