I'm very sorry the parents are being treated this way. They have suffered enough.

“Treated this way“, you mean by making sure there’s no conflict of interest going forward so that way the conviction is not overturn in a couple years? What a horrible way to be treated.

I am very sorry for the parents having to go through such challenges so close to the conclusion of their long, arduous journey. My condolences and prayers to you. This is a horrible story and yet they speak with respect. I am angry on their behalf. My heart is heavy with sadness.

Do you even understand what’s going on here? They’re making sure the verdict stands by not having a conflict of interest come up later on. And you’re turning this into something it’s not. You’re reminding me of someone who walks in a room with sunglasses on and asked why it’s so dark in the house.d

There’s a conflict of interest, which is governed through the professional code of conduct the state BAR requires of lawyers. The new post-conviction lawyer for the socialite also represents the boss of the two attorneys who were removed. The boss is the District Attorney, who was arrested for misusing access to confidential records. The conflict is that these two attorneys shouldn’t be in a position of “going up against” the same lawyer who is defending their boss. Even just the appearance of impropriety creates a conflict. It was proper for them to be removed, but a better solution would have been for the boss to simply retain a different lawyer, thus avoiding the conflict entirely.

Bull$hit favoritism. The judge now can sentence her to 7 years and not have to face the same prosecutors, who absolutely would be appalled. Disgusting!!!

No matter what awful injustice you've suffered, there's a reason lawyers recuse themselves. You may be saving headaches down the road with appeals. And sorry, but acting entitled for any reason should never change how the system interacts with you.

They're Egyptian (Coptic Orthodox Christian). I know because I'm Egyptian and I belong to that church as well. We're extreme pacifists, like the exact opposite of the worst extremists that come from that part of the world, which is what makes my heart break for this family (they're very peaceful people). I hope they can find peace and justice can finally be served.
Btw, the picture of the 2 boys that has been circulating around the web is of them wearing the deacon attire for members of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria (I have the same attire). That is how I initially found out about where they came from.
