I don't know if you mention it in this video, but you know how Mega Man defeats a robot master, gets an orb and it says "YOU GOT MAGNETIC SHOCKWAVE" (or whatever weapon) in his own series? That's literally his ending in MvC. Even better? In the PS1 version, he actually gains that move! Kill Onslaught as Mega Man and he can do Magnetic Shockwave (which I believe is a hyper combo).

I'm glad you decided to give it some coverage! I'm sure a few other people have commented this, but in Japan it was marketed as Marvel vs Capcom EX, to denote it was a different game from the standard edition. After all this time, I would love to see this game's depths explored!

Linking the hyper combos... that's a thing I totally forgot the Ps1 MVC1 had to offer, this version along with it's predecesors (excluding Marvel Super Heroes and X-Men Children of the Atom) were my entry point in the Capcom vs Series.
Edit: Of course, Onslaught is easier thanks to the fact that you health is restored after you beat his 1st phase, and Captain Comando's ending is a reference to the ending of his own game (just replace Onslaught with Scumoside or whatever the final boss' name, the Avengers crew with the President and the Avengers base stage with the Captain Comando's Metro City).

Alot of people don't know that captain commando can chain both of his specials even in the arcade version lol. You just need to push buttons and down during the animation of the first super and you will notice that the animation ends earlier allowing enough time where you can pick up with the diagonal h.p then send them up with f h.p and the do captain sword right away.

I got this version as a kid after playing the arcade version. I actually didn't notice the obvious tag mechanic difference until a couple of visits to the arcade later, but somehow I didn't mind it back then. Still had a lot of fun with this version, especially since the arcade that had the regular game was in another city my family only stayed during the summer.

I played this game a ton with my college suite mates back in the day. We could play for hours.
We mostly played the vs mode where the second character is your opponent’s first character. The other mode was a gimmick that had infinite assists. Strider could win by throwing the kitchen sink at the other guy.
I’m a bit puzzled as to why max seems so blown away by this. The game and its features weren’t some obscure hidden gems. All of this is old news.

I love how they tried to add more characters by means of cheat codes like giving Roll her own character model and trying to get Carnage in there by having a cheat code that makes venom Red. And from the Dreamcast version he’s kinda different, he sort of glitches around when he moves and his attacks are faster and go on longer. So at least to me even if he’s still called venom I like to call him Carnage.
