I love making my own headpins because I can use them for various sized beads, as well as for making fancy wraps with lots of wire at the top of the beaded dangle. And I think these pretty knotted headpins really add something special to an otherwise simple design.
We are not going to cover the bead wrapping part in this video - just the making of the headpin. To see how to make a simple wire wrapped loop see this video:

I'm so happy I discovered this! The knot feels more original than those ready-made head pin ends you can buy, and I like that you can create different sized coils this way without having to get either new pins or an additional bead if one bead has a bigger opening. :)
Absolutely agree! I also love that you can make them as long as you need for stacks of beads or if you like to do a messy wrap at the top 🤗
My favorite headpin design ever! Thank you.
What's the largest wire gauge you can use?
Thank you so much for this technique. LOVE IT
I've never seen these before!! I love them. Thank you for introducing them to me

Thank you so much for this great tutorial, I was able to finish a necklace with a beautiful focal bead. I don't like the regular 3" head pin, so when I finish watching your tutorial I knew this is what I was looking for. Thank you!

Using these on some cut crystal suncatcher earrings now....the knot headpins look awesome!

Thank you so much I wanted headpins there were a little more special and this is perfect.
You just saved me money, thanks! I wanted something like a ball end, but that I could make myself because I don't like buying commercially-made items. This will be perfect.

WOW!
AWESOME!!!!! Lizzie
Fantastic! I have so many small hole beads that I would like to use as dangles, and haven't been able to find head pins in a small enough gauge to accommodate them. This is a beautiful way to finish a cut wire end. Thanks so much for sharing. Love all of your tutorials.
Thanks so much! Yes, these are just perfect for that! You could even make them with 28 gauge wire if you needed to for those teeny beads :)
Love

Thank you so much for this!!!!!!
You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it :)
What a great idea! Balled head pins are so expensive. Can’t wait to try this.
Yes! They really are. These handmade ones are also easy to adapt to different lengths or for beads with larger holes.
Thanks so much for stopping in to say hello!
I'm impressed with this innovative technique! I love how you can customize the size in order to fit your bead! It's lovely too! Thank you! I'm going to give this a try! :)
ShadeoftHEARTdesigns Awesome! So glad you liked it. These headpins really are fun and versatile and it's an added bonus that you don't have to stock several lengths and gauges of headpins 'just in case'. Thanks so much for visiting :)
awesome tutorial
+Annee DesignedIt Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
I've been beading for years,,,, wow great tutorial and a lovely finished product TY
PS I've subbed your channel too!!
Hi Susan! So glad to have you here - thanks for stopping in to say hello!
YAY :) I made my first knotted head pins today. At first they were awful but after much practising they turned out well enough to use on a pair of earrings that I'm wearing at the weekend. They look so much more interesting than boring ball or flat hear pins. Thank you for sharing this :)
Thanks Elza! I'm so glad to hear you got the hang of it :) I agree they add so much more to beaded jewelry than flat head pins do. Thanks for visiting!
I'm so glad to see you had terrible results at first. I am having a very difficult time too. Looks so easy in the video. I am able to do everything except for the very final part that makes it look pretty. I'll keep practising. Any tips would be appreciated.
good idea!
***** Thanks so much! Glad you liked it :)
Really great! Now after more supplies 🤣
thanks a lot

licksnkicks Wonderful!! I am so glad to hear that. Thanks so much for checking in!!
Really nice :)
WhiteWildRose67 Thank you :)
This is so great thank you. I am making a pair of earrings that will be quite heavy, and I would like to use this technique. So there will be a bit of weight hanging from the hook, what gauge would you recommend for heavy earrings? Thank you!!!
Great tute, Jessica...always wanted to know how to make the ends look pretty without using a wee bead, or whatever....also very good camera work. Thanks so much....it's nice to learn a new thing..xx
Thanks so much for your kind words - I love teaching and I'm so glad you enjoyed this tutorial!
My pleasure..xx
❤❤❤❤❤❤
A friend of mine uses the nylon pliers to grip right below the knot, then pulls the rest of the wire through with a pair of chain nose pliers. That way she gets the kinks & crooks out at the same time, straightening the wire.
Great tip, thanks :)
Hi JTHQ!!! Thanx for the demonstrative video...helpful AND creative. As well, do you have a video that demonstrates the organic wrapping on the top of the pearls (pictured at 16-20 seconds)? I would love to try my hand at that, too!
Chrys In ChiTown I'm afraid I don't have a CZcams video but I do teach this technique (and many others) in my Wire Wrapping for Beginners course. Here is a 25% off coupon link if you're interested: www.udemy.com/jewelry-making-wire-wrapped-jewelry-for-beginners/?couponCode=CZcams29
Thanks for visiting! I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
Thank you!!! and is 24 badge too think for head pins??
Hi Julia! You can use 24 gauge for these headpins (and other headpins in general). It's a little easier to make the knots with the 26g wire but can still be done with 24. Have fun!
Good just b
Great vid! Can't wait to try it.
PS HOW do you add the SUBSCRIBE box and link at the end of the video?
Thanks so much! You can add a clickable subscribe link by creating an annotation on your video and choosing the 'subscribe' option when you check the 'link' checkbox at the bottom of the editing screen.
JewelryTutorialHQ Thanks! (I realized I was lazy or something and simply googled it after I posted the question.)
I just bought some headpins yesterday...dang it. I like these better. Oh well....I know now
Nice 👍🏾. I heard that 18 gauge wire is the best for jewelry making🤷🏽♀️
It depends what you're trying to make what size of wire is best :) Thanks for checking out the video!
can it be done with 24 gauge ?
Hi Jean! Sorry for the late reply. Yes, this works with 24 gauge. 26 is easier but not by much. Enjoy!
do you use hard hard wire?
Heather Clark I use Half Hard wire for these headpins.
Thank You, Thats what I was trying to wright lol
Nice, now I can stop buying pins and just buy wire!
Thanks so much. This instruction video is great!
Deenie Daley Thanks very much! So glad you enjoyed it :)
