I highly recommend getting a pair of ski boots that are custom heat fit. I did that and they are the best ski boots i have ever used.

I have MAD feet/calf problems and still ski 30-40 days a year! I would recommend less stiff boots (they have a rating when purchasing - I would ask), heat molding (which i know you did), but most helpful was the fitted insoles in the soles of the boot! It has been a GAME CHANGER!!!

I can relate. I was an adult and I had 2 of my very young nephews with me at the time. I wasn't overly familiar with the mountain. We ended up on a black diamond trial. I could ski it down but there was no way my 2 young nephews could. So, we took our skis off and started to walk down the mountain. I saw a trail that I thought would bring us over to an intermediate trail. I got lost with my 2 lils. We were gone for hours. I was like 21 at the time. I was scared shitless. This was before cell phones. I will never forget it. Thank GOD for the ski patrol. They found us. We were fine. Just very exhausted and scared as hell!!

for skiing/snowboarding, I found compression socks really help! They make specific socks for skiing and snowboarding too that have have some extra cushioning :)

I have wide feet and calves and love my Soloman ski boots. I got them at a Mammoth Mountain demo shop about 7 years ago and they still do me good on the mountain!

go to a boot fitter in a ski town vs LA and have them make adjustments during your trip so you can ski and give feedback. your boots might be cutting you in the wrong spot on your calves (adjustable on some boots).
other tips: loosen the buckles on the chair every time and re-buckle only right before you ski, keep your boots near a heater so they're not cold before you ski (softens plastic), and wear thick socks to kickstart break-in process.
(creds: i live in tahoe, have weird shaped feet, and have cried MANY times bc of my boots)
