In this video I unbox, install and compare two different gun magnets that are available on Amazon. I run you through how and where I installed these two magnets in my truck.
The First magnet is the Keeper MG 35 pound gun mount with rubberized coating.
The second magnet in the Hill and Wood 75 pound gun mount with rubberized coating.
Thank you for not annoying me by removing the magazine and racking the slide to show me it's safe.

I would never criticize for not safety checking on video, we’re all adults. But I do think it’s important to keep safety present in all firearms conversations. Complacency kills. A loaded firearm kills the bad guy. An unloaded firearm kills your friend.

You need that strong pull to make sure the thing stays in place for potholes and dirt roads!
If you've ever been in an accident, you know the violent jolt and stop you get...I believe none of these magnets will work.

I mounted mine in my 2000 expedition. I used the double-sided tape that came with it and I used cabinet screws top and bottom it’s held up off-road on road, never loosened up but then again cars were made a little stronger, thicker plastic panels, even just back in 2000.

Believe it or not it really doesn’t take 60 pounds to pull the gun off. It’s held on with 60 pounds, but all I need to do is pivot the gun and it comes right off. Very reliable magnet. Anything less and maybe it would move during transit.
I wear mine IWB at 3:00 in the car so it’s always on me. It’s never forgotten in the car and it’s readily accessible.

Like the idea of using a magnet, instead of a holster, to be more flexible on where gun is positioned. Thinking of keeping a CC in my vehicle at all times after reading this story in the Dec 2020 American Handgunner, "With a Gun To Your Head". Plus I don't carry something every time I get in my car to go somewhere for a minute. I want to find a spot where you can't see it from the outside and can get it without tipping off an attacker...that's the challenge.
I was unsure about using a magnet at first. I thought about trying to mount a holster somewhere close at hand and I found many different options. Somehow I decided to go with the magnet though and after using this for 1 year I can confidently say that it is the only way I would go now. Just buy a small magnet that is at least a 60 pound pull and you should be able to find a good spot for it.
So the purpose of a magnet is so the gun don’t fly cuz I just throw it on the dash in front of the steering wheel

My question with all these magnetic mounts...what happens if you’re in a collision? Are those magnets going to be strong enough to hold your firearm? That’s a damn dangerous projectile rolling around the cab of your vehicle, particularly if you carry with a freedom seed in the pew tube. Thoughts?
haha, I don't keep a round chambered so it doesn't worry me at all. In the event that a round were to somehow go off, I guess I would just pray.

where is the test man? how did it do on a bumpy dirt road?
I have taken the truck out on many bumpy roads and the gun hasn't moved at all. Very nice magnet. I'll try to post a video so you can see the magnet in action.
i mean cool but if you get pulled over soon as the cop gets to your window he sees a gun. i rather him not him be nervous even if i have a permit in hand ready

I've had the firearm fully loaded and stuck to that magnet for 4 months and it hasn't moved an inch. I love it.

Why is no one commenting in having the trigger exposed?
I personally and professionally speaking would never keep my firearm where I can forget it. And yes, this has happened too Many times to too many people before. I even worked with another Former LEO who used the Mickey D’s bathroom and forgot his duty pistol on top of the paper towel dispenser. “Nice working with you Abe!” That’s how a lot of crooks get your pistols; You leave them unlocked and unattended, especially unattended. Luckily the manager used the men’s room after Abe and called the cops. I also had the privilege of fingerprinting and processing two gun thieves who got their weapons from a locked truck. People see your NRA stickers and this peaks their interest in your vehicle and dog gone it, your gun’s gone! Or you forget to grab your gun off of your handy dandy gun magnet in your vehicle and either a concerned citizen calls the cops or again, a crook sees it and suddenly the place you just walked into gets Heldup and he’s using Your Gun to do it!! Ut Oooh! We in big twoubo now! If your outside of your home, carry your pistol in your holster. It hurts to drive like that? Then invest in a holster that feels better or just make the proper adjustments so it doesn’t. I use a magnet mount in my house just under my wooden coffee table and one magnet mounted on my nightstand, between it and my bed. I live alone and my dog is a light sleeper. Magnet mounts in your vehicle - You’re going to forget it once. ONCE! And usually that’s the last time you’ll ever have it. Don’t be stupid. Leave the magnets in your house where they belong. In my Professional opinion, of course. So I’m sorry, but I can’t condone the use of this or any similar product in any vehicle.
Well, I can't argue with your logic, you make some very valid points. When I leave the car I typically put the firearm back into my concealed holster to keep it on my person. However, I will keep your advice in mind 💯 as I continue to use the magnet in my truck.

Screwing holes in my almost new car has kept me from doing this so far. Yes I get it the Hill magnet has the double sided tape but like you I would want the double safety of metal screws/bolts too.
As public safety on the roads gets more and more concerning; I’m getting very close to pulling that trigger (so to speak). After all it’s not a lease; it’s my car and if I want to put holes in it I can put holes in it.

Well you can always use one of the other options for securing a firearm in your vehicle. Options that don’t require you to drill holes in your vehicle. For me it’s a non-issue though, my magnet will be sold with the truck and it’s so small that I don’t even notice it! I guess if it really started to bother me I could drop a couple hundred dollars on a replacement panel.

NOTE: Mounting any pistol in a vehicle this way is illegal in most states, as it's NOT a concealed carry at this point, but openly displayed for use, and anyone can get to it. one forgetful moment, and they take it , you lose it!
It all depends on the state. In my state they say the firearm needs to be in a locking container and it has actually been argued that the vehicle itself is a locking container. Like you said. Each state varies.
You can have it openly displayed in NC. If you concealed it has to be locked up or concealed out of reach or access.
Put a hat or rag over it and it is indeed concealed!!!!!!!
Hey guys, I just purchased my first hand gun. I'll like to know if it's legal to mount it this way in my truck. I'm 25, I don't have LTC. No criminal record. I leave in Texas. I'm just making sure it's legal cause I know it's basically in plain sight. Thanks in advance for the help!
In Texas its legal, concealed or not. You vehicle is an extension of your home in Texas (also NV) where I relocated from. Even with out a CCW, in Texas anyone can have a loaded firearm in vehicle. And on top of that, its a 2A Constitutional carry state, as long as you are over 21 and legally allowed to purchase and posses a forearm. Love Texas!
Car holsters are generally just a bad idea, and you are much better off finding an on-body solution that works for you. Here are some reasons why.
You really aren’t gaining much in terms of access. If you carry AIWB your draw should be largely unchanged, and even carrying strong side shouldn’t totally impede the access to your weapon. Practice it.
The typical situation people use to justify this type of holster is a car jacking. If someone has the drop on you with a gun of their own, reaching under your dash or to the side pocket or side of the seat for yours isn’t fooling anybody, and if that carjacker is determined, you likely won’t be fast enough anyway. What then? If you are forced from your car you just gave that perp another weapon. If it’s not on your person it’s not in your control.
What if you have to ditch your vehicle immediately? In an emergency are you going to remember to grab your gun, and get it holstered up? Maybe, but maybe not. If you do, that’s still time wasted as opposed to just having it on you. Having your gun on your person eliminates that risk.
Maybe life isn’t that exciting all the time, and you just need to run into the store quick. Are you going to take the time to put the gun on before you go grab a road snack? You should, because leaving an unsecured gun in the car is negligent as hell. Now you have to do unnecessary administrative gun handling in a tiny metal box with windows. That’s not ideal, and as much as people think it can’t happen to them, it opens you up to more opportunities to screw up and have an ND. Now I know someone is going to come in here and tell me I shouldn’t carry a gun if I’m worried about having an ND. The fact of the matter is that many of the worlds best shooters and instructors have had an ND at some point. That doesn’t make it ok, but it means that people more experienced and skilled than me have done it. Therefore it’s probably unwise to purposefully introduce extra opportunities to screw up into our lives.
Comfort? That’s generally a gear issue. I carried a full size gun AIWB on an 18 hr car ride one way a couple months back. No big deal. Now I also recognize that no one has been carjacked at 70mph. If you need to take your gun off when your driving, leave it in the holster and remove the holster from your pants. It’s also smart to secure it in some compartment so it doesn’t become a projectile in a wreck. Leaving the gun in the holster makes putting the gun back on much safer too.
Using a magnet is an even bigger issue. First you have an exposed trigger. If you keep the gun chambered that’s silly given the exposed trigger guard, and if you don’t that’s also silly because it adds even more time to the draw. Magnets are the worst of the worst in this case.
In closing, car holsters are derpy, and there are almost no benefits to outweigh the pile of issues they cause. I can’t think of a single relevant instructor that advocates for them.

Not in Texas. If u are not otherwise committing a crime you can carry a gun in Texas, no permit required. But I’m not an attorney so go ahead and check with yours.
