    What about the drain line where does the water go on the roof?

    Hm. Nice video. Only thing is, not many of us have power magically prewired for us. That is what some consider the critical element to installing an AC unit. Dropping in a unit and plugging it in is great. But how was the actual wiring done?

    • @rveducation101
      @rveducation101  Před 8 lety +1

      The majority of RVs manufactured today are pre-wired for a roof air conditioner. This video concentrated on how-to install the roof air conditioner. We do not have a video on wiring a roof air conditioner. Due to electrical codes and ensuring the proper gauge wire and proper amperage from the power distribution box is used, this type of work should only be done by a licensed electrician.

    Water from the drain will take the path of least resistance and run off the corner of the roof that is the lowest.

    Thanks for the info video. I picked up a used unit and I'm installing in into a pop-up truck camper. Is it a 30 amp unit? What size wire is used for the 120v system (12-2)? Thanks

    • @rveducation101
      @rveducation101  Před 10 lety

      The wire gauge size is similar to house construction. It is based on the distance of the run and the amperage draw. If it is short distance (say less than 20 feet) you normally use 14 gauge for 15 amp circuits and 12 gauge for 20 amp circuits.

    I bought a used 2008 Fleetwood Utah. How do I find out model I have?

    • @rveducation101
      @rveducation101  Před 4 lety

      I am assuming you mean what model AC unit. Look in the owner's manual if you have it and the air conditioner information should be there. If not, the model might be on the AC cover inside the RV or you can remove the AC cover on the roof of the RV to locate the model number.

    What's the minimum watts necessary to run the AC?

    • @rveducation101
      @rveducation101  Před 4 lety

      It depends on the size of the AC unit, but in general I would plan on about 15 to 16 amps when the AC compressor comes on, that is 1800 to 1920 watts. It will use less once it is up and running.

      Yes, any RV air conditioner you purchase new will be ready to use out of the box.

    This is a little funny, it's an instructional video on how to install the air conditioner, but right off the bat, you are saying it should only be installed by a professional.

    • @rveducation101

      +bckkm It's simply a disclaimer to let folks who are not comfortable doing wiring or working in the roof etc to have it done by a professional

      +RV Education 101® I figured, it was just funny. Thanks for the video.
