The Bankai is kinda useless if you think about it. Ikkakku has to keep spinning that until it reaches a point where the Bankai can actually do damage or be lethal. If not, you can actually break it if the enemy just starts charging at him.
The spinning is just one way to power it up. He can still attack and charge it up slowly that way. His Bankai is just pure offense, it can cut the arrancar without the power up.
But thats every anime rule. Letting the person charge and take his time to transform or execute his/her ultimate form/attack. Remember Andriod 17 when he attacked those girls trying to 'henshin' during the tournament of power?
That's Ikkaku though. He's reckless and loves to fight more than almost anything. He's one of Kenpachi's closest subordinates after all. Also, it's not just the spinning. It builds momentum from attacking in general. Ikkaku is single-minded, but he's not an idiot.
It can be argued that Bankais are an achievement in themselves. The issue is that Bankais may start off as weak and complicated to execute. Only over time and continue growth in strength will Bankais improve. Granted, this is just a theory. Achieving Bankai and mastering its full potential are two different levels.
Ikkakus a perfect example of that. I feel like Ikkaku has barely scratched what he's truly capable of. Bc all bankai, even Ichigos who started out simple looking, had an ability. In Ichigos case it increased his speed. Hozukimaru takes time to wake up in bankai form as indicated by the color changing dragon. Unlike his owner, he's lazy and takes his sweet time gearing up for a fight. But I have a feeling that Ikkakus not using his blade properly. Mainly bc his Shikai doesn't do anything. All Shikai have an ability on top of a form change. Kiras can make things heavy, Tosens can manipulate sound, and Hisagis is unknown bc he doesn't like to use his Shikai but you get the point. Hozukimaru does nothing. So either Ikkakus not using him right or Hozukimarus being an asshole and keeping a lot from his user just like how Sabimaru did with Renji.

This guy is probably one of my favorite side characters or the favorite in I wonder if she has a situation like renji where that’s not his full bankai yet or something really wish they pushed it more in the show was a class act every time he was on
Most of the Espada fights aren't even really fights. Either games of "flexing our op abilities and taking turns overpowering eachother" or horribly chopped fight montages Practically any fight in Fake Karakura Town arc fell in the latter category, while any other Espada fights that are not Yammy, Grimmjow, or Aaroniero fall into the former. Oh, Ulquiorra? His fight is both. Gets sidelined by some girls, then Yammy & Ishida, had to go out of Las Noches, but it turns into a game of flexing new forms. Yammy's just outright cut. While Aaroniero's kinda meh, but not too much of what I said. Grimmjow's fight is my favorite out of the entire Bleach anime.
@@diinouhothead9362 the only fight of Espada which had a lot of coreography and "Hand to Hand" combat was Grimmjow VS Ichigo, the others was sad animations great part, Ulquiorra had a cool fight, but the animation and coreography r meh, Findoor Carias VS Shuuhei, Ikkaku vs Eduardo and even Soi Fon Vs Ggio Vega had more coreography and better animations.
@@bleachcentral4613 The only part I remember about nornal Ulquiorra fight is that Loly and Menoly came to harass Orihime, and turn to help her after she helped 1 of them (despite having done so earlier already) As for the fight with Resurreccion, I used to like how Vasto Lorde Ichigo curbstomps Ulquiorra, but now grew to resent it after realizing the greater impact it had on Ichigo's character: He regressed right back at square 1 of Arrancar arc, afraid of his Hollow powers once again
Among the many bankai. I like Ikkakus the most. It's flashy yet simple looking. Plus it's a work of art in my opinion. I didn't even realize that it's a literal three sectioned weapon with three different blades(I didn't notice the two hand blades were different shapes bc it was moved around so much) until much later. And it fits Ikkakus wild style of fighting. And the interesting thing about it is that even if one blade gets destroyed he can keep using the bankai weapon until it's completely destroyed.
Too bad this bankai looks newly learned. It would have been badass to see a fully-mastered R. Hozukimaru, it's fighting style would have been similar to Kazeshini with those giant chains.

It's too big too, can't fight with those things, it's like Renji, but Renji has a defense at least, Ikkaku is full open.

Tōsen VS Kaname had a good animation job but it was one Mecha fighting, for me giant fight sucks. I like hand to hand/Kenjutsu.
