its kind of crazy how Gohan’s life was literally nothing but fighting, surviving, and death until after the cell saga. And in this timeline he literally never gets a break
Thats most likely why he settles to live in normal life in Super
Also amazing that he never hit SSJ2 in this, with all the harder training he ‘should’ have been doing and the extreme emotional duress, he has to have reached the snapping point at one time.

@@rpger90 in this timeline the androids suddenly appeared and he had to fight as is. in the main timeline trunks showed up 2 years in advance, then they trained and then spent a year in the time chamber. that's way more training.
Modern Gaming yeah, but Zenkai is a thing and he’s fought the Androids many times before finally needing to sacrifice his arm and then life for Trunks.

The fact that TeamFourStar didn't turn the part where Trunks finds Gohan's body into a comedic parody like usual, but instead into an equally heart-rending scene, speaks volumes on how powerful it is.
How would Dark Gohan of Heroes be if redone by TFS?? Not parodied as well I suppose
The music used in that scene is from Doctor Who. David Tennant's (10th Doctor) era; song's called Doomsday.

Got the exact same feeling. It’s the essence of the philosophy of saiyans from earth, compassion.
You need the serious stuff or the comedy doesn’t work as well. It means there are stakes to be invested in.
Since trunks doesn't go "daddy?" When the vegeta scream is going, that means that the one that DID say that originally must be the one that cell killed and stole the time machine. Meaning that every timeline could hear that scream more or less.
Well, namek happens in all of them anyway, so not really, but funny to think about.

The one multiversal constant: Vegeta getting fucked over and jobbing as hard as possible.
The timelines hadn't branched off each other yet at this point, so both the Trunks Cell killed and the one we know must've said the same thing.
So. Bulma can make cars,buildings,boats and also make it so they can collapse into a small pill shape to be stored. She can make spaceships and Anti-gravity machines. But a Mechanical arm eludes her?

He's probably thoroughly convinced that Gohan could handle the Androids alone and probably thinks Gohan going to fight with one arm is just being fair. After Gohan died he was probably too excited introducing Gohan to King Kai to notice the world of the living.

If trunks had only learned to tingle his back, Gohan wouldn’t have had to die.

Also, so much pain and anguish how the rain is sort of camouflaging his tears, tightening his fists drawing blood in rage! If TFS would've added thunder and lightning to this scene, it would have been the cherry on top... nonetheless, this is still the most heartfelt scene in all of DBZA!

We don’t talk enough about how tragic this timeline is for the women specifically. Chichi and Bulma both lost their husbands. Their second children were never born. Their older children flew the nest and got themselves killed.
Really i think Bulma made the Time Machine not so trunks could save the world but so she could save Trunks. If he stayed, he would’ve died.

What I like the most about this special is how much of the humor has such a dark twist to it. Everyone is so mentally broken and at the literal end of their rope.
It fits a really bleak future like this one.
That's one of the reasons I love the way Trunks and Gohan occasionally get deja vu when in situations similar to their alternate-timeline counterparts. In a way, all the dead people live on.

Especially since in Super, Zeno goes and destroys an entire timeline's worth of afterlife. NGL, if Freeza isn't the final Super villain I kinda hope Zeno is. He's innocent and pure and all, yeah, but he's a pure, innocent *sociopath.*

I came back to this video solely to express an epiphany I JUST had. It occurred me that Bulma had Bulla at age 48. That's highly impressive, since most women can't have kids after a certain age. Then I remembered a certain line in the newest Dragon Ball movie, Super Hero. (Minor Spoilers for a single joke in the movie) We learn that Bulma has been frequently obtaining the dragon balls to wish a couple years off her age to keep herself young. This was an all new fact revealed that actually explains how she could have a second kid at that age. While not possible in Future Trunks's timeline, in the main timeline, she has ACTUALLY been 37 for over 10 years.

Rewatching this as Lani and Kaiser do their commentary on the Bento channel. Hearing Kaiser say he still doesn’t know if he was the right pick for Trunks, then hearing his performance here, ESPECIALLY during Gohan’s death scene and Trunks’ transformation… no Kaiser, you were ABSOLUTELY the right pick.
I actually like how Gohan said “Mr.Piccolo I got one” as he accepted Trunks as his pupil. That was actually touching.

@@thatboyakira4202 Frieza Saga, when Vegeta discovered that Gohan stole the Dragon Ball he took from a Namekian village. The scream transcended time and space, as Goku could hear it in space and King Yemma could hear it in Other World. And Trunks in the future.

Do you mean future Gohan? He probably could. In the games, he does have the move and considering his DBS timeline did, it would stand to reason that he could do the move. If you his younger self in the cell saga, then yeah he didn’t have it yet but he didn’t really need it at the time.

Geezus, that scream. Kaiser did not have to go that hard, but the TFS team hit this scene out of the park. Maybe it's because of the general silliness of the rest of Abridged, but Gohan's death hits even harder here than it did in the original dub.
Even with the TFS humor, this OVA is still quite depressing.
Tfs really knew when to put the jokes in and where to put a hold of the humour. Gohans death was really well handled in this

TFS take has a much better tone for the overall scene. Less words, just let the music and scene speak for itself.

Not gonna lie, just did a comparison of this, the dub, and the original japanese, and I think this is one of those things that TFS directly improved.
I kinda disagree on that. I think Eric Vale did an outstanding job of displaying Trunks' emotions in the official dub. Supported by the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack, that hit me in the feels a lot more!

Between the two official ones, I liked the Funi soundtrack more, but the Japanese voicing more. For some reason the dub made Trunks a bit chatty - all "this isn't fair" and so on and so forth. The Japanese is a bit more reserved, just repeating "Gohan", but I feel TFS' take where he's silent right up til the end better portrays the state of schock Trunks would be in at that point. It's a matter of personal preference ultimately.
It's nice that Piccolo gets to be a voice in someone's head for a change

I love how the scene with Trunks finding Gohan dead doesn’t have any gags in it . And to add it has those quick flashback scenes of how he died between every step that trunks takes towards Gohans body . Sheesh

They should have put that in the Future Trunks movie. It would have been perfect to capitalize more on Trunks' psychological breakdown when he sees Gohan's lifeless body in a puddle of rain water, his eyes rolled back into his head permanently; knowing that Son Gohan of the Future era... would finally meet his end. Rest in peace.
DG105 That’s not necessarily a gag - it’s just music. TFS have gone out on record to say they made that scene serious.
What I've always loved about TFS is they never undercut the really emotional moments. That music when trunks finds Gohan's body is genuinely eerie and heartwrenching.
The amount of respect I have for tfs when you realize they made fun of everything and everyone expect when gohan died

The scene where trunks finds Gohan dead in the street with that red light is one of my favorite scenes in all of Dragon Ball. Such a beautiful creative way to mimic the violence without it being just a bloody gore show. Again just super creative and beautifully done

Every now and then I always come back to TFS such a great series that properly gets the story right and still funny
Nobody noticed how during the entire special they only referred to the “Androids” as “Cyborgs”. The only mention of them as “Androids” is by trunks as he is narrating, signifying he has already been to the future. If you watch the episode where trunks tells Goku about them, the person to start the trend of referring to them as “Androids” is Goku. Again a superb contribution to continuity on TFSs behalf.
