Prices are surprisingly reasonable down there compared to where I'm from and where I live. Love the Keys myself and used to drive myself there every weekend as a teenager.
Our favorite thing about living on a plugged canal is that we can drop our boat anywhere we want to depending on whatever we want to do. If we want to boat down to an event in Key West, we drop in at Cudjoe. If we want to cruise around Marathon, we drop in at Bahia Honda. If we want the sandbars and back country (the best of the Keys in our opinion) we drop in at State Road 4A just a few miles down the road. Sure- having a boat on an open canal is nice but you're limited to where you can go unless you have an unlimited gas budget, because your boat is stuck starting off in one place every time. And having a boat free canal means its safe for our family to swim, snorkel, kayak and paddle board in our back yard. :) And the price is SO MUCH BETTER. 100% worth it.
We found out very quickly that the added expense of living on navigable water is not always worth the cost....unless of course that is your main priority. We bought a house off the water in a wonderful neighborhood (which I swore I'd never do) saved a bunch of money and we really love it and we are only a half mile from the boat ramp. Works fine for us!
This is the best time to sell out and retire there. These people can find you what and where. I spoke to many agents and this team has the best knowledge of the place. Buy and be safe. I went there, I was really thinking to sell out, quit my job, and move in when waiting for my flight. Don’t leave it too long as New York folk will be leaving and going to the keys.
Sounds like a problem that you need to have a very unpleasant doctor's visit. Nice to know that they are clear water. I love the flamingo wallpaper. Lots of room in the yard. Ideal location with a great deal on flood insurance. I love the manatee ❤
Love the content - one suggestion for the editing is to show some b-roll of the property or the area while you’re talking so it’s not such long segments with only talking. It would help the ADHD audience like me stay focused lol. Thanks though this was great
Trust me I know....we try really hard to run B-roll when we can put it over us talking, but sometimes we just don't have the time or quality of footage we need, so we just have to roll with what we have. We'll get better at it!
I have heard that it has happened although I have not seen it personally in our time here. I think it is extraordinarily rare if it happens at all....but boy...those property values would sore if it happened.
Interesting. Would assume these were once unplugged. If you buy on an unplugged canal, is there the danger that it becomes naturally plugged with laws that prohibit the mangroves from being cut back?
No I've not seen that happen here. If a home is on a navigable canal, obviously the homeowners keep things cleared up as their property values are much higher on boating canals. The county will allow the mangroves to be trimmed back to keep canals open. Plugged canals typically have been that way since the canal was created. I think it had something to do with environmental protection....so many canals had to be left plugged when they were created.
Great video! My great escape! Keep ‘em coming!

Have you guys done a video yet on the new house you bought?@@GablesOnTheGo
Great recommendation on boat rentals! I grew up with boats and a swimming pool and feel they're both just endless money pits.
So, with a backhoe, couple chainsaws and a few drunk friends we could open that plug up and increase our home value by 25%???
Yep , here in south Louisiana it would be an unplugged canal very quickly.
Yep, up in north Georgia I can just hear it now...."hold my beer, I'll git 'r done"....BOOM price increase!
This is great information. Thank you guys!

Smart buy! Good point about the boating cost.
a perfect video for the day!
I look at realtor all the time and I saw this listing and saw it was yours. I was waiting and watching for you to do a video.
Hope you enjoyed it!
""A plugged canal is a canal that is .....uhh...PLUGGED!" LOL

Thanks for watching! Yes, I agree...plugged canal could have a few different meanings!....now that's funny.
A plugged canal is just a ditch! If you can't access the gulf, what's the point.
I would love to move to the keys but it’s just too expensive for someone on a fixed income

Has anyone ever gotten approval from Monroe to unplug a canal?
