Elvis' early work was accompanied by the Jordanaires, but Elvis, as he said later in an interview, "could not get them out of Nashville, " so he hired another group called "The Stamps." J. D. Sumner was the man with the very deep voice. The more live Elvis you watch, the more you realize, as the actor from Elvis, Austin Butler ,said, "Elvis was an early producer." He had producer's who were credited, but as they, and the orchestra leader all said, "no one needed to tell Elvis what to do. He told them." Even though he had no formal music training, he has been described as a musical savant. He was always on pitch, and when he does the hand movements, he is, in effect, directing the orchestra and the back up singers. He knew what he wanted, and they knew to watch him because sometimes he changed things without notice, Welcome to Elvis world!
The Jordanaires were no longer w Elvis at this point. The backing vocals here are JD Sumner & the Stamps Quartet. This is the most watched show in history, being beamed Live around the planet on Jan. 14, 1973 to a total viewing audience of 1.5 BILLION people watching...at a time when the earth's population was only 3 billion!!! Nothing before or since has broadcast to a nearly 50% of the PLANET watching live!!!

The male backup singers are The Stamps Quartet & the very low voice is JD Sumner, a close friend of Elvis since Elvis was 12. The Stamps were with Elvis in the 70s. Elvis said that the Jordanaires were working in Nashville. An American Trilogy is a beautiful piece & an emotional piece for Elvis, as he is from the Southern States of North America, which are referred to as Dixieland, & all three pieces that make up the song, come from the Civil War in 1860s. Elvis has the eagle representing North America on the back of his costume, as this concert was being beamed across the world via satellite, which was the very first time this had been done. I watched it live in New Zealand. The concert was in January 1973, so Elvis had just turned 38. A year later, his health began to decline & in August 1977 he died. The music world lost its brightest star.
Remember this was live and during his lifetime there was no autotune. Elvis's beautiful voice and showmanship is unmatched to this day. He was not called the king for nothing. thank you very much.

I "hear" it when most people sing, but I "feel" it when Elvis sings.
This is the story of the American Civil War...The first song that you hear is DIXIE which is the Battle Hymn for the Confederacy! The second song is The Battle Hymn for The Northern Section of the U.S..and The last song is the Soldier on either side of the way dying! A little note, the Northerners liked the song DIXIE so much, they would actually sing Dixie and the Officers would have to stop them! Thank you for reacting to ELVIS! The fellow with the deep voice was J.D. Sumner. He sang back up for Elvis with his band the Jordanairres. He held the world record for the lowest note sung by a human, a double low C. The record stood for about 35 years

This show, Aloha from Hawaii was in 1973. I was just 16 and I was just one of the "one billion" viewers glued to the TV watching via satellite (Elvis first the entertainer to broadcast that way). I became an instant fan. The outfit he's wearing is called the Red, White, & Blue American Eagle (American Eagle design across his chest) I'm 66 now, a forever fan and revisted Elvis's home called Graceland in Dec 2022. The Graceland tour of his home in Memphis has new exhibits since my last visit years ago. The tour includes his home plus the Elvis Museum that exhibits his vast automobile collection and the costumes, records & memorabilia related to his performances. So in 2022 while viewing his costumes I got to take my picture standing by the very costume he's wearing in this 1973 video which was the very first time I saw him perform. A momento I will always treasure.
I still tingle at it but I just realised something....it's those really masculine movements that are making me tingle even more than the incredible song! It's when he pulls his arm back, swings it round, jabs into the air to direct ..tinnnnngle!! It's masculine power and it's absolutely wonderful!
The male backup group at this time were J.D. Sumner and The Stamps Quartet, they were with Elvis from 1972 until 1977. Elvis said in 1970 that he could not get the Jordanaires out of Nashville, they were well off doing session work. He had not shared a stage with them in over ten years by 1973 when this performance was recorded. TCB⚡️
He NEVER cheated his audience. He so appreciated those who spent time, money and effort to see him. For all his shortcomings, he was a humble guy who liked simple things ----- Music, especially Gospel, and regular people. One of a kind.

Elvis also had 3 female backup singers he called his "Sweet Inspirations", One of them named Cissy Houston was the mother of pop diva, Whitney Houston. Cissy later had a steller career as a gospel singer.

No it was not seen by 1.5 billion people around the world, its complete myth. Most people never saw it live, just politics, geography and time. The myth was pushed by parker.
That's your feeble opinion. It was seen live by 1.5 billion people world wide. I was alive at that time in another country. If you also watch the initial interview before the concert, you will hear the producer speak and give the facts. More people watched this concert than the landing on the moon in 1969! Facts! Parker had nothing to do with these viewing figures.

These 3 songs represent the Civil War, Dixie the South, Battle Hymn the North and All My Trials a Negro Spiritual. Nobody could do this but Elvis. He was a veteran and a true patriot. This is why Elvis was/is the King!

This concert was broadcast worldwide to 1.5 billion people. At the time that means 1/4 of the people on the planet watched it.
Elvis always wanted to be a singer in a famous gospel quartet. He tried out but they said he wasn’t good enough so ended up doing rock and roll but he always loved gospel music so he always had southern gospel quartets as his back up singers. Usually the Jordanaires Quartet or JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet and sometimes both. Also had the Sweet Inspirations which were a gospel girl group. The quartets always had the best harmonies. I believe JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet are singing here and JD is the one with the really low bass voice. ❤

I've heard this song by him hundreds of times and I always feel chills! I also was born in Dixieland (south USA). He never forgot his roots. He was always respectful and generous. When fan mail came in, he personally read the ones of people asking for financial help. He paid homes off, medical bills and bought cars for strangers. He gave away over 200 Cadillacs in his lifetime. He was one of a kind and I am happy to see him finally getting the appreciation and respect he deserves. No one else can touch Elvis' vocals. His impersonators try but they can't capture Elvis' soul.
I'm happy that new generations are discovering Elvis. He was and is the King, even though he didn't like that title.. He is the G.O.A.T. but doesn't get the recognition he rightfully deserves.
He was more than a great performer, he was a great humanitarian as well.
The Jordanaires were his back-to-back up singers in the 50's and early 60's until he went in the Army. They were also back-to-back up singers for many Country artists. When he returned to the stage after his military service he hired these gentlemen as his back-to-back up ( I don't know if they were a group or just individuals he hired). He also hired the Sweet Inspirations ( female group of 3....They also sang back-up for Aretha Franklin),
Elvis had no formal vocal training and could not read music. He did not write songs; but rather covered songs that he liked and that meant something to him. He gave them new life by doing them in his style..

The 1973 Aloha Concert was the first live concert seen on tv via satellite seen in 46 countries by over 1.5 billion ppl. around the world. It was the mega event of the time.

As a southerner, I love hearing Elvis (a fellow southerner) singing that first part about being born in Dixieland from the old traditional Civil War era song! You just have to be a southerner of many generations to understand the pride of listening to him

There will never be another Elvis. You will always get a thumbs up from me for any song he sang. I was at this 1973 Aloha concert n sat 3rd row center n couldn't take my eyes off of him. I was 21 n crazy about Elvis n I even jumped up on my seat n thru him a kiss n he winked at me. Lol. I never met Elvis but was friends with Charlie Hodge his confidant and best friend for years after Elvis died n kept a journal of the stories he told me. That jumpsuit was called American Eagle n all those gems sown on were Real. The suit weighed around 70 pounds( yes that is true) When he wore his cape it added another 20 pounds. I forgot to check if you had an Elvis playlist so I will give a few songs I liked Suspicious Minds Vagus 1970, Patch It Up Vagus 1970, Steamroller Blues Aloha concert 1973,Make The World Go Away Vagus 1970 n many more. Thank you for keeping Elvis music alive.Elvis was the most generous man on earth giving away most of his money to family, people in need many charities He gave people whatever they needed Houses, Motorcycles, Cadillacs, Trips, Jewelry, paid medical bills when people didn't have insurance, stopped at a homeless man n gave him $5,000 in cash to help him start a new life, I could write you a book on all the things he did for people. I story I loved They were driving Elvis to one of his concerts n someone mentioned that a little boy couldn't go to the concert n was very sick in the hospital so Elvis made them stop at the hospital ( he was dressed in his jumpsuit) n went to the boys room n spent time with him n if my memory is right he gave the boy his necklace with a cross made of beautiful jewels. I love how he turns his back to the audience for the performances of the back up singers and the orchestra, becoming the audience and giving great respect to fellow performers. A generous man all around. Can't help but love him, for many reasons. Truly hope you continue doing reactions to his music. I will be watching. God Bless.
The song he ended with was "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" Winston Churchill heard this song when he visited America back in the late 40's or 50's, it is a very patriotic song written during the Civil War. Churchill requested this song to be played at his funeral, and his request was granted.

The Jordanaires bat Elvis many times in his earlier years but this here is JD Souther (deep bass) and the Stamps Quartet. He also often used a group called The Imperials for the male backing vocalist. The female group with him in the later years was the Sweet Inspirations.

This group was actually J. D. Sumner and The Stamps Quartet. The Jordanairs stopped backing him in the mid 60's.
If you watch closely you'll notice how he listens closely for musical cues for when to sing. In an age before the advent of on-stage monitors, ear-plugs, and auto-tune, many songs were carefully arranged for the performer to 'hear/recognize' moments when to pause and when to sing.

The best there was, the best there is and the GREATEST THIS WORLD WILL EVER SEE!! Elvis was magical, his voice is heavenly, when he sings he puts his heart and soul in to every world every action. The power, passion, emotion, feel, control and charisma it doesn't get any better than Elvis. You can feel him sing not just hear. No auto tune no pitch correction just pure perfection. Elvis gave his all for what meant the most to him and that's his fans he loved his fans. Elvis was a God among men as he was a gift to us all from God himself. Long live the King!!!!

Elvis was really one of a kind, a total package, looks, style, voice, diversety and personality. Elvis was actually voted "artist of the century, back in 1999 and rightfully so .

I actually remember all the news coverage of him. I don’t remember, but I am sure I was sad. I continued to listen to his music and still do.
@@nikkidearmas3733 I listened to Elvis with my Grandma all the time and I actually was with her the day that he died. We cried and cried. I’m sure part of the reason I cried was because she did. I didn’t really understand even though my step dad died 2 months before on June 16. I still listen to him daily now

A few things to remember. This was 1973. There were no monitors, no autocue, no lip syncing, nothing but musical cues from the backup singers & orchestra
that made the event run like a finely tuned machine working together & relying on nothing else but genuine talent. There is NO ONE who comes close & there never will be.

Have you ever seen a performer that sins his songs with sooo much passion, conviction, and emotion? Not too likely!! There is a reason he was called the King of Rock! He was so generous not just in his own inner circle, but also people in need that he didn't know! GREAT GREAT MAN!!
Sorry, I feel this version of American trilogy is a 10. It has a lot of emotion. The production is spectacular. The orchestra, backup singers and Elvis vocals were extraordinary. He shows his vocal range effortlessly. By the way he was sweating. His suit was very heavy and the lights were very hot. Definitely one of Elvis’s best performance.
That jumpsuit was covered in semi precious stones and very heavy, it cost so reported $250.000.
Towards the end Mr Presley threw his belt and later his cape into the audience, you could see how heavy then by the effort it took.
One was returned to EPE, the other must be worth a small fortune now.
As he left the stage at the end he was given a gold coloured crown by a member of the audience, its now still on show at Graceland, he kept everything. The yellow lei made from real flowers, he kept round his neck all the way through, he never lost his appreciation for things given to him.
The Jordinares were dropped early on, when he started Las Vegas and then touring he took the Sweet Inspirations, an orchestra, James Burton as lead guitarist and a 4 man group one with a very deep voice.
He was too good for this world, a beautiful human being, fame is not what its cracked up to be, it killed him in the end.
The words My Trials Will Soon Be Over, 4 years later they were.

He was executive director of his own music, he even arranged and experimented with none Elvis songs to put the Elvis on them. He had perfect pitch and an almost 3 octave range. Elvis loved the 50's opera singer, Mario Lanza and had all his recordings, Lanza knew Elvis was a fan and when approached by the media one day and they told him about Elvis, Mario replied, "I would rather have had Elvis' voice instead of Mine". thanks for this great reaction. US did not see it live...If the live and re broadcast numbers were added, it still doesn't hit 1.5 billion.

This concert was the first to be televised worldwide and raised money for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund. Two shows were done, the rehearsal and the main. The rehearsal was actually filmed in case something went wrong during the main event. Awesome concert and great reaction. Cheers!

Although the Jordanaires did back-up Elvis in the early part of his career his back-ups in this video is J.D. Sumner & the Stamps. Elvis loved Gospel Music especially Southern Gospel Quartets.

Bill Medley with the Righteous Brothers was a very good friend of Elvis. They did Los Vegas together. One went on at 8:00 the other 10:00 12:00 and 2:00
