Passion unfortunately has a big dose of ego in the mix. Mountains don't kill people. Ego kills.

People at sea level don't drop dead of egos, so I guess that leaves mountains.

It's not ego, it's the "Griswold Effect". You spend all that money and put in all that effort to get to the fun park, only to find it closed. So you give it all you got just to get inside, even if it means your eventual downfall. The Griswold Effect has been the doom of many an adventurist.

Each person chooses. When the weather goes really bad, people die climbing K2. I do not understand the mind-set that is willing to die or willing to put others at risk during a rescue when climbing a mountain.

It is sometimes so easy for people that have little or no passion to speak negatively about someone after they have died doing what brought them such happiness, people have been known to die mowing the lawn, skiing, mudbogging, and many other ways. Thank you for the video, I appreciate it 🥀

Don't think one should go climbing in the Karakorams - or indeed the Himalayas - if one's family isn't OK with the possibiity of one's body be resting there forever if matter turns to the worst - one's body is just a weak shell; I'm not hinting there is anything above that either for that matter...

The source of tragedy was originally considered to be a fault within an individual that led to a terrible outcome. These mountain tragedies are nothing more than the hubris of individuals who think they can overcome Nature. We cannot overcome Nature, but we can, by luck, sometimes outmaneuver Nature by what we call luck, or in ancient times, by the disposition of favorable gods. The gods of Nature did not look favorably upon these misguided souls.
