    Love the tutorial. Due to the simple design and short material list I think this fly is a great option to build a "complete" mayfly box featuring a wide range of sizes and colors to match any hatch. New project.

    Only two minutes into this video and I stopped to say thank you for your honesty. "That's like a chocolate kettle". I'm going to have to use that one in the future. Seriously though, too many videos don't go into enough detail about those sorta things. Much appreciated. Looking forward to all your videos.

    The comparadun is a great pattern, however my biggest issue with tying this pattern is that it takes a lot of wrapping to keep the wing upright.
    One way to overcome this is to tie in half the amount of deer hair pointing to the rear of the hook, then clip off the butt ends just back from the hook eye. Then take a similar clump of hair and tie it in with tips pointing forwards and melding the 2 clumps of hair together.
    This way the wing stands perfectly vertical and allows for a much slimmer dubbed body.

    However I'd tie the wing a bit further from the eye, like 1/3 as in wings of hackled dry flies

  • @lincolnjohnson5129

    How do you get your wings to fan out 180 degrees? Every time I try to tie this, they always point in one direction. I don't know if maybe I'm just not using enough elk hair or what.

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It's important to use the correct hair that will flare just right and once your hair is secure, wrap forward through the hair before you tie off behind the hook eye.

    • @lincolnjohnson5129
      @lincolnjohnson5129 Před 6 měsíci

      @@ThefeatherbenderThat (almost) completely solved my issue. I wasn't wrapping my thread forward so it didn't really react. My only issue now is having the correct hair. Thanks a lot!

    • @Thefeatherbender

      Hi Mike, I would have to say no, but sometimes a no hackle fly can give presentation that little extra that is required. They fish lower in the surface film.

    you've got to have the PERFECT hair consistency to get that fabulous wing....never buy comparadun hair online, get it at your local shop so you can feel it first.
